Ugh, good D and Wynter wasn't even looking to shoot. But with the shot clock winding down, he let it fly. He drains a big 3 with 1:42 left to put Drexel, up 70-65.

Ray gets his career-high 30 pts on a layup... off HU pressure that forced a DU turnover... 70-69.
DU hits two FTs though.
Now, Kante calmly swishes the first of a 1-and-1 and two Drexel FTs. He has one more. 72-70, Dragons with :06.9 left.

Nice comeback. I'm still livid. They took the first half off and it cost them the game.

Drexel misses the second FT, Hofstra had a timeout left, but does not use it. Instead, Kante grabs his 8th rebounds and dishes to Ray, who writes a fitting ending. Although he was 8/13 from 3 today (started 8/10), he was just 2/10 from 2. He misses a floater Drexel wins, 73-71.

Missed opportunity for Hofstra today:
Drexel had twice as many turnovers (22-11) as Hofstra, but points off turnovers were even (20-20).

We ratcheted up the pressure in the 2nd half helping to create 22 to's and 9 steals for the game. Credit Drexel with 20 assists and shooting 62% from the floor and from 3 and 85% from the line.

Drexel became the first team from 2010-2011 to the present to shoot twos at least .600, shoot threes at least .600, shoot free throws at least .800, have at least 20 assists, and score 73 or fewer points.
Hofstra shot threes .429 and twos .349. Ray and Coburn combined to make 3 of 16 twos.
The CAA assists lead got closer with Wynter at 5.42, Burgess at 5.33, and Tyson Walker at 5.29. Today Burgess had 7 assists, Wynter had 5, and Walker didn't play as there were only two games. Charleston made a three at the buzzer to force overtime and won in double overtime hosting Towson. If Burgess has 7 assists and Wynter has 5 assists tomorrow, Burgess will take the lead. Wynter could finish second in assists in three consecutive seasons, and I don't have a way of finding out if that has ever happened.

Interesting stat. But that happened because Drexel only took 42 shots. They made two shots more than Hofstra (26-24) despite taking 22 fewer shots (42 vs. 64).
Credit HU for getting all of those offensive boards to take a lot more shots, which led to a 17-5 advantage in Second Chance points, but when you're taking that many more shots, you can't have fewer FGM (from both and offensive and defensive standpoint - you have to make a better percentage and can't allow Drexel to shoot such a high percentage).
And when you have twice as many TOs (and are a +11 in that category), you can't be even in points off turnovers (even though some were "deadball" TOs resulting from things like Drexel offensive fouls, etc.).
Lastly, defense has to remain a constant. You can't hang your heads and lose intensity at that end of the floor when you're missing shots at the other end. Even missing 16 straight shots in the first half, had their D been better during that stretch, maybe they're down 8 at the half instead of 14, and then maybe they win at the end instead of falling just short.

* Drexel now leads the all-time series 47-46.
* Hofstra had won its past eight against Drexel.
* Ray (1,224 career pts) moved into 23rd place all-time at HU, passing Demetrius Dudley (1,220 pts from 1991-93) & John Mills (1,220 pts from 1941-43 and 46-47).
* Ray moved into a tie for fifth all-time at HU in 3s. He now has 201, tying him with Carlos Rivera (2003-07).

HUs entire bench scored 2 pts, had 1 rebound and no assists. Pitiful!

Ironically, those two points were right before the game went south for HU. Those points came on a really impressive drive from Masic who patiently waited with the dribble to pick his spot nicely before he turned on the acceleration to drive for a nice bucket along the right blocks. That made it 20-17, HU, right before Drexel went on a 24-4 run.
Moments later, Ray picked up a tech and Wynter made 1 of 2, to tie the game, 20-20. Okay, it's only one point that early in the game and it was Ray's only tech, so no big deal, right?
Well, on the contrary, Farrelly pointed to that in the postgame. He didn't mention Wynter's FT, but he did note that the tech forced him to take Ray out of the game (with his 2nd PF) and Ray didn't come back in until it was already 31-24, Drexel, when Hofstra had already missed the first 7 of 16 in a row - so that tech and Ray having to sit as a result, really disrupted a lot for Hofstra over a key stretch.
(have always hated that rule in the CAA, by the way - I call it the Double Jeopardy Tech... you're already penalizing the player once with the tech, you shouldn't penalize him twice for the same offense with a personal foul too, especially at the college level, when you only get five).

Disappointing obviously, but of course have to figure Drexel will be a tough series. Heckuva comeback in the 2nd, but a half like the first should not be happening, not this late in the season. Did a great job on Butler, Kante won that battle, but allowing some dude named Bickerstaff to go off, who has no business doing so, drives ya nuts.
Burgess with some nice moments - Wynter had a good game, but not a cosmic one by any means.
Pretty disappointed in Coburn (again). He still doesn't seem to get what it means to be in his position, to be a talented starting Sr leader, to be the #2 go-to. I have noted before he acts lost out there way too much, seemingly not knowing his role or his place for some reason, pretty frustrating. This really should not be an issue at this stage. Gave a better performance in the 2nd, but found myself missing Silverio's spark when he was out. He needs to take a more front and center leader role instead of waiting for whatever it is he seems to be waiting for too often, shoot the 3, and attack the basket. Good things will happen
Tough to see Silverio slip back with TC's return and neither do much. Have to wonder what lead to Omar to playing so well when TC was out. More opps and focus I suppose? Perhaps he doesn't do well being the afterthought, not sure. But for a guy like TC to still be a question mark halfway through his senior campaign is mind-boggling. The team (and specifically Ray) needs ya!
Really feel Farrelly's very apparent pain with the team overall in the first half, just brutal. The fact this group still has energy issues and takes large parts of games or entire halves off is beyond frustrating, and you could see that clearly from Mike in the post game today.
Ray getting a tech really hurt - just can't have that. Clearly he came out in the 2nd on a mission to make things right, but just wasn't quite enough. Valiant effort, he's some player. Totally fine with him taking the shot in the final seconds, he's the guy.
Agree on the bench, terrible, pretty much zero impact. Can't have that either. Where was Green, I must've missed it? Cramer was alright but not enough today for what this team needs.
HU didn't honor the game in the 1st, let an opp for a win get away here. Gotta sleep it off, clear the mechanism, turn the page, and right the ship tomorrow.

I was just able to watch this game for the first time in its entirety and while I agree that we didn't play with the intensity of the 2nd half I really thought we played decent D IN THE FIRST half for about 16 minutes of that half. The last 4 minutes of the half hurt us and we let a kid who clearly we didn't have much respect for hit two three's. That kid House appeared to be a pretty good three point shooter. He came in only averaging 3 points a game. I'm sure we'll pay more attention to him today. Realistically it was our pathetic offense that got us in the hole in the first half more then anything else. Taking bad shots and missing some easy ones. At the 5 minute to go in the half we were only down by 3 points and then Cramer was called for a Defensive goal tend that put them up by 5. I really thought I would be looking at something far worse then this. I thought we played much worse against St Bonaventure in the first half of that game but this game was far more important. Big clutch shots from Wynter when they needed them and Drexel playing the shot clock on every possession keeping the ball out of our hands. We had a couple of nice steals one by Burgess and another by Kante only to lose the ball on the break.
Effort and hard work don't always show up in the stat sheet I thought Coburn while not producing much offensively was definitely all over the place in the 2nd half but didn't score in the last 10 minutes of the game. That's sad and without Ray hitting crazy shots this game wouldn't have been close. Credit to Cramer too working his butt off on the glass and getting a few steals. Also thought Burgess had a good D game and showed some good penetration but he also took some BAD shots. It will be interesting to see how this game is changed for today in terms of effort and game plan.

This team needs to be focused for a full 40 minutes. Have we played a full 40 minutes yet this year. We cannot afford to take any time off in any conference game. Want to see them come out swinging to day and not let up until after the final buzzer.

Was there anything mentioned about Green? I wonder why he didn't get minutes in this game. It looked like in the 2nd game against UNCW he was pulled after fouling and coach ripped into him and he kinda just walked away from him. I'm hoping not the DOGHOUSE maybe lingering injury?

He now averages 10.4 points, shoots .519, and averages 4.8 rebounds. Us and Drexel have two good forwards, and Drexel got 5 rebounds from sub forward Tim Perry Jr.

Do you mean only in CAA games? He entered with 6 points in 4 games. Drexel has four sub guards competing for playing time, albeit one of them gets to start with Mate Okros out. Even with the extra season of eligibility, I don't know if Zach Walton will stay considering he's already a graduate. Wynter, Okros, Matey Juric, House, Lamar Oden Jr, Xavier Bell, and Coletrane Washington (who is injured) are seven guards they could have next season, and those seven include two freshman and two sophomores.

I didn't reference that but he's a kid that can score from beyond the arc if u let him get some good looks. Yesterday they paid more attention to him and he didn't score.
