I beg to disagree re: the DeCady Tanksley comparison...Tanksley at 6-4 was more of a shooting guard. DeCady at 6-8 is an elite defender who can go to the rack and still needs to prove he is a good shooter. I would compare Thomas to Tanksley on this year's roster.

Fair on height, but Tanksley (listed at 6'5" 230lbs) played stretch 4 for us surrounded by a guard-heavy offense where he had to be a leader on the court, consistent inside/outside scoring threat, and usually defend a bigger 4 on the other end.

My point was that Josh (6'8", 220 lbs.) has a strong opportunity this year to step up and into a similar and very important role by continuing to play D the way he does while also adding a skill set that Tanksley had(~38% from 3 shooting, drive and dish ability, and hard-nose rebounding).

To your point, Tanner can also embody this :-) I love the idea of a taller Ameen and a shorter Ameen on the same court for us.

On a fun note, in my googling he came up on LI on now working for the DOJ in Philly. Hopefully he sees this one day... I'm sure it'd be nice for him to see he's still on HU minds 10 years later!

Hm, yeah I've been pretty high on DeCady since his recruitment, really like this kids measurables and potential - not sure I see a Tanksley as he's much more of a forward/post player right now, but I'm hoping he can become more like a Kieza - but AK was a strong shooter and JD has a ways to go there.

Whatever the comparison, we do need him to take a step up this year and develop his offensive ability to match his defense. At his size he can be a deadly weapon if he rounds out his game. He is really the only F we have on this squad, which is kinda crazy - didn't realize that till I looked today. We have guards, we have 7 foot centers, we have 6'6 wings, and then we have JD! This kid is likely going to be much more important than we even realize. We need him to be a stud.

The key is going to be the PG - we need a new face to take those reigns and be that leader. That's the difference between good and great, between also-ran and the champ, between close and the dance. Jefferson to me is the baller we are counting on to drop buckets and dimes, with Moore also a potential who can score and is around 4 assists/game.

From my view right now, I think Tavarez is likely a support guy, and Lopez a scorer / shooter if fully ready, and similar shooting play with Boyd. We likely need one or both of Jefferson and Moore to be our floor generals, with Lopez being the high hope ? to me as his potential is super intriguing.

Plotnikov not signed with a pro team? Hofstra, in theory, has one slot left.

Looks like German Plotnikov is going into coaching. He's listed as the Director of Basketball Operations for FDU. Maybe we'll hire him back here in a few years? That would be cool

Always thought that this would be his calling and somewhat surprised that HU didn't find a job for him but believe that he will be back here. A leader and always vocal on and off the court.

We have a new player: Benjamin Onwughai, a 6-6 guard from Oak Hill Academy in VA:

https://gohofstra.com/sports/mens-baske ... ghai/17336

I met Benjamin at the reception for season-ticket holders a few weeks ago before the premiere of Chasing March, our MBB 2025-26 documentary, but I did not recognize his name at the time. Since then, I have kept checking the MBB roster on GoHofstra.com and today I saw that Benjamin has joined the team, giving us 15 players in all.

Benjamin has only been playing basketball for a few years, but was named MVP of Oak Hill's international team. I'm guessing he may redshirt this year (if redshirting still exists). Here's a short clip of his game:
