Now that we have NIL the its seems like the NCAA has relaxed some of the rules I have an idea
All throughout Long Island in the spring summer and fall they have street fairs in almost every town all with 20 minutes of Hofstra
This Saturday is the Bellmore street fair which gets between 50,000 to 100,000 people for the weekend event
For a nominal fee Hofstra can set up booths and either the coaches or some athletes giving away possibly some tickets or free sports gear
team up with the local chambers of commerce in each town to get additional exposure
I like the idea. They need to do a lot more stuff like this. Although as I mentioned before, I can attest that free tickets aren't that exciting to someone that doesn't have any idea about the program, and there's nothing else going on in the close vicinity of the arena.

I will still ask the same question from an earlier post, will there be enough parking for all the events? There are times when the lax, softball, and baseball games all occur at the same times. There are some weekends, in February and March, when the lax and the basketball schedules overlap. I realize with staggering the starting times of the games may solve this potential problem. It also could lead to interesting doubleheaders for multiple sports.

There’s an old saying in show business:
“Worry about standing room after you’ve sold out the house.”
We should be so lucky if we have to be concerned about parking for our games.

Wasn't Shuart stadium also used for Hofstra graduations and high school graduations
Not since 2012. All graduations now held in Mack.

Went to this place in the Lou this summer. Long Island could use something like it.
https://www.cityfoundrystl.com/
Has lots of food popups, movie theater, mini golf, VR, escape room, local vendors, stage for events, etc.
It sounds like maybe they are considering something along those lines with "restaurants, shops, more housing and a space for live music"?
Could put in outposts for a cool NYC pizza spot/bagel joint/restaurant, etc.
They could make any hofstra sports games a big deal - put it on a big projector screen in the main area, signage, etc.
Just spitballing here obviously but there is potential to do something cool...put hofstra in the local conversation...and there is plenty of parking nearby...

Sounds very promising.....and who knows..if Hofstra continues to outgrow its current campus we may be the ones looking to acquire land to fuel this continued growth and the coliseum just happens to be across the street.. how convenient

Great point Gary! If nothing else could be some possibilities for medical school facilities with Northwell at Coliseum if planned right. Hopefully either way we avoid a casino disaster there.

Not gonna lie - I’m all for it. Even during the best of times, Hofstra athletics barely moved the needle. Whatever the university can do to drive foot traffic and pair that with Hofstra games, I’m all in - like someone mentioned earlier, have a sports bar with Hofstra games televised. Honestly would welcome anything to help encourage an area next to the university to take the wife and kids etc…

On the surface, this isn't a bad idea at all, and it's nice to see some forward thinking. I love this stuff and actually think something like this could add value and be really cool... IF IT WAS DONE RIGHT. However, I'm not sure this has been well thought out yet.
-- This is a significant amount of $$$$ to achieve, and although I'm all for improving investment, to spend it on a sport that has reached peak irrelevance with little ability to produce a financial return seems worth questioning to ensure it's properly planned out.
-- Poser and the entire AD know nothing about navigating today's college athletics (topic for another thread). So yes, this digs our heels in to continue ignoring the #1 sport that matters in college athletics while trying to erase a legacy. Good idea or not, this is also worth questioning.
-- To the point above, if they do this it needs to be done to produce a highly attractive, nationally recognized, state of the art new lax venue. Color me skeptical they do so. I would be concerned this will just be a smaller place with no real draw, hence further downplaying sports at HU.
-- This requires some serious savviness to do correctly, and I'm sorry, I just don't see this kind leadership at HU. I think it's a fair concern this admin would screw it up and make it lame.
-- Having this on the academic side of campus might negate the advantages of this kind of endeavor. It's out of the way and opposite of the athletics and dorms, and it's not really a heavy 'foot traffic' kind of area. May limit its potential. It just feels like the wrong side for this kind of project.
I'm all for things like this when done well, and it's way past time to utilize that open corner space on the residential side of campus that has been vacant for literally decades - it's good to see some discussion about it. Just not sure this is how I would do it.
Personally, I would build a couple of parking garages to free up space and create this kind of 'Hofstra Village' filled with walking only paths for shops, restaurants, bars, community spaces, venues, etc. on the residential side near the athletics and dorms where it belongs. And make it a controlled area for open containers, just like many other campus communities are doing.
If they want to continue to rewrite history then tear down the stadium and build an actual medical school with facilities that moves the dial, instead of the dog and pony show they've done so far just to 'say' they have a medical school. It should be double the size with fully visible marketable facilities. Can also use some of that space to increase the size of other strong schools (Business, Comm, Law, etc.) to increase attendance, revenue, and reputation. Keep academics on the academic side, and the living on the living side.
HU is about half the size it was when I attended, and the ratings/rankings have barely moved. They need to do better. Let's see a real growth strategy for a change. But just quick thoughts, I'm sure there are even better ideas with more brainstorming.

You raise some valid points Polito and I think one about having a retail development on academic side of campus is a notable one since let's face it, college students are lazy! Perhaps having it on north side of campus where they want to build the lacrosse stadium would be better, although can also understand the appeal of having it on Hempstead Turnpike in terms of drawing outside visitors.

I can see that as well HP1, and I do think the case could be made either way on the location - this can work, it just has be done right - this can't be some fake half ass effort - it has to be a true investment with a real strategic vision brought to reality, not just some bogus hot air where they fall flat and continue to just pat themselves on the back for mediocrity like they usually do.
In order to draw in the community, you first have to have a community. Then you have to actually engage that community. Then you can reap the benefits of said community. HU has done a GARBAGE job with that so far. In fact, they've done the exact opposite of creating a passionate and connected and supportive community - they've treated everyone like outsiders. Can't do that and then think droves will magically come to you. Heck I bleed this and even I stepped away for an entire year in part due to the complete incompetence I've witnessed.
I want to see HU improve on that before we start making grand plans to interact with something they've invested zero into that doesn't exist right now. Again, it all comes down to leadership to me, and we need MUCH better from HU in that department. Things like accountability, communication, marketing, savviness, strategy, vision and the like have been completely nonexistent. HU can be SO much more than it is - changes are needed.

They just announced today a USL soccer team that will be calling Hofstra home starting in 2028. If nothing else this shows that any plans to tear down Shuart for this college town mixed-use district aren't happening anytime soon.

Thanks for posting this HofstraPride1. My favorite part is Cole saying "James M. Shuart Stadium has built a reputation as one of the premier athletic venues in the region." That, I guess, is why Hofstra up until this announcement was planning on ripping it down and putting up I don't even know what.
I agree with what Cole said, and am thrilled that Shuart's demise has been seemingly halted, and maybe it is just me, but this guy and this administration have absolutely no credibility in my view.

I wouldn't say has been halted at all and today's news more or less just underscores this demolition and college town project is not commencing any time in the near future given its many complexities including building a new lacrosse stadium on north campus. I doubt they will take town Stuart until the new stadium is completed and we are long ways away from that even starting so in meantime may as well seize this solid revenue opportunity for the university.

The soccer side of me digs this, great use of the stadium, solid level of pro soccer, presents new opportunity so it's wise for HU to be a part of it - and they SHOULD become an athletics sponsor for this University, but of course we'll see. And would've been great if 'a new stadium by X date' was part of this partnership to help spread the cost
Of note, the next pro level up Island FC is also arriving and having a new stadium built by mitchell field complex which may distract from HU's...
No clue if it was ever or could be possible still, but I think it would've been amazing for HU to have bought out the coliseum land and repurposed the heck out of that to build an awesome larger scale village to include a stadium, restaurants, bars, shops, walkability, a new hotel, new dorms, etc. A whole new section of campus more integrated with the overall HU community / alum.
But besides $ that also takes demand. And one of the big concerns I have for things like this is our enrollment has declined over the years - and due to the surrounding areas that are either questionable or retail dominated, we need a strong student base and growing alumni pool to support something like this - this university although evolving some, hasn't really grown as it should IMO
I say this often, but I would LOVE to see a strategic plan from HU's leadership - where is this U going? How is it going to get there? What is the timeline to achieve whatever future goals?
Until I see something concrete and inspirational, I am skeptical to say the least.

Hofstra announced a strategic plan in fall 2024 which should provide much of the information you are seeking. Here is details
