Glad we got a big. Is he eligible next year? VC has him as an expected red shirt. We'll be dwarfs next year without more height and depth in the paint.

This is a BIG get no pun intended however he had knee surgery last year. Hopefully he comes in healthy lord knows we need a Kante replacement.Wags wrote:Arkansas big man Abayomi Iyiola (6-9, 230, from Atlanta) has committed to Hofstra.
Previously averaged 10.1 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 0.7 bpg in 32 games (2017-18) and 10.8 ppg, 7.6 rpg, 1.2 bpg in 31 games (2018-19) for Stetson.
Only played one minute for Arkansas last year after a redshirt there.
Will have two seasons remaining.

I haven't looked at any video but did look at box scores noticed he played games against Cooks in the ASUN so they're familiar with each other. He had 19 points against Duke a few years back in a Duke blowout. Also of note is that he only averaged 22.9 minutes a game so all his stats are with only playing about half a game. Started every game in his last season with Stetson but I wonder why only playing limited minutes. If healthy will be a big plus here.Cards wrote:A little different than the "typical" HU Big. Certainly he can play back to the basket, but he has very soft touch mid-range jumper. Listed as a PF and not a C.
And Hallelujah - he shot 73% from the stripe in his last season at Stetson!!!!
From the little video I've seen, I LIKE!.
Huge honor for Coburn. Academic AA is a major award. Congrats to him. This is a real credit to the program.Jojogunne wrote:Big honor for Tareq:cactus wrote:Coburn heading to st John's for grad school.

If we have in fact lost both Silverio and Bethea then we have three more scholarships to give since I don't believe Ray's scholarship counts towards the 13. So maybe we could be holding onto one of those but I believe we sign at least another PF type player. We need a fail safe here in case someone gets hurt.Jojogunne wrote:Trying to keep track of all the moving pieces. Is this what our official roster looks like? Only 11 scholarship players. Could we be adding one or two more?

Isn't that what this kid is?? He has a long wing span and is a shot blocker and rebounds!stuball888 wrote:Would like to see a real big BIG someone 6ft 10 or taller a real shot blocker rebounder who is a defensive specialist to give our guards the freedom to press and cover the paint
My understanding is that essentially this past year doesn't count as a year of eligibility for anyonedaHUPride wrote: 2) with the COVID eligibility - a guy like Burgess - how many years does he have left? 2? 3?
I agree HUSID, but I think signing a talented freshman would create a playing time issue by his soph season. With Abayomi having two more years, I could see us signing another Big that has one or two more years. Then next season, go after a real talented big freshman who will only have to sit and learn his freshman season, becoming the main 5 by his soph season. Alas, it would be nice if in the real world you could map out these types of recruiting strategies, have all the pieces fall nicely into place, and then successfully implement themHUSID80 wrote:Welcome aboard Abayomi!
Much needed get in a big...would like to see us sign a freshman big for the future although given the current state of college basketball, transfers seem to be the way to go.
