We just added a home game with John Jay at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 12.

According to the John Jay Athletics website, the HU game is listed as an exhibition. This was the type of scheduling that used to occur before the regular reason began, usually with a team from Europe. I am not really sure I remember a HU exhibition game scheduled during the season.

Dec. 12 fills a gap between our games on Dec. 8 (SBU) and Dec. 18 (Arkansas). Helps the team prepare for the latter.

I see the value in doing something game related to fill in the scheduling gap, however, a D3 team like JJ is a step down from playing D2 Molloy. Maybe if we're trying some new defensive looks or something like that, but I don't think it does much to prep for the Razorbacks.

This is cool for me since my name is close (Jon Jay) and we've already played Wagner.

I'm still waiting for the John Jay-Wagner game, in which John Jay drops the "h" in its name.

If nothing else, it can help merely from a confidence standpoint. Remember, two years ago, following a bad 15-point loss in which HU played poorly at Bucknell, they blew out NY Tech at home (granted, DII, not DIII, but still nowhere near HU's level) before HU won its next game at UCLA.

The CAA punished JMU by taking them off CBS Sports Network. Hopefully the spots will be replaced by other CAA games. Here are our games on those days:

Monday January 3: We host UNCW at 7:00 P.M., and it would be moved up to 6:00 P.M. if it is televised as part of the only CAA doubleheader
Thursday February 3: We host Towson at 7:00 P.M., and it would be moved up to 6:00 P.M. if it is televised
Thursday February 10: We are at Drexel at 7:00 P.M., and it would be moved up to 5:00 P.M. if it is televised

I wonder if JMU will be blackballed by the CAA. What I mean is will the CAA office ban any CAA team from playing JMU once they leave the CAA.

The schedule overall is incredible in terms of toughness and getting some big action against high quality teams - long overdue, and I give them credit for taking the bull by the horns. The home schedule or games in a local 'neutral' venue are terrible - they can make all the excuses they want, but it's awful. But I'm not complaining, this schedule is tremendous from a 'name' perspective, and easily one HU's best ever.

With this SOS, I'm def cool with the John Jay add - this team is going to need some wins for confidence, because this schedule is extremely difficult for a first time HC with a zillion transfers to win against.

Regarding JMU, they will be prevented from participating in championships - good for HU - stinks for the kids, but JMU did this exact same thing to ODU, GMU, and VCU when the left, so... karma.

#21 Maryland (where HU plays 11/19) has not been that impressive for a Top 25 team.

Beat Quinnipiac by 14 at home (not close, but should have been easier, I think).

Trailed GW and Vermont at halftime, also both at home, beating GW by just seven and Vermont by 11.

They host our old friends George Mason on Wednesday before hosting Hofstra on Friday next week.

Might be a good opportunity (especially after what we saw in Houston) for Hofstra to get a nice Top 25 road win.

They are not unbeatable by any stretch. But make no mistake, the Terps have talent - that GW game was a battle because of former VT star Joe Basmile - kid is a stud - Vermont is no slouch as we know.

UMD still won both. Fats Russel is a star, and they have a big man Wahab that could literally eat Iyiola for lunch. Dude's a LOAD.

It'll be a battle, but HU absolutely has another legit chance at a top 25 win with it's guard play. Let's see how UMD does against GMU and how HU does against Iona. But no matter, I think the Fats vs Cooks battle is going to be worth the ticket alone - gonna be a show!! Hoping HU Cooks the Fat!!

This is the first season we do not host a Division I team in New York since our last season in the America East in 1999-2000.

Wow, that's pretty disappointing. Great that they got the very good OOC slate they got on the road, but how - especially with the number of local D-1 teams in the area - do they not host a single D-1 team OOC for the first time in their CAA era?

Mason won at Maryland tonight, 71-66. That'll likely drop Maryland out of the Top 25, but not until Monday, when the new polls come out, after they play HU Friday.
Would still be a very good win if HU can get it, but would maybe mean a little less now? Saw that coming, that Maryland looked beatable after those first few results before tonight.

Clearly we're going to have to play better then we did against Iona but the constant pressing and contesting all the inbounds passes disrupted our O flow. IDK what Maryland's style of play is but might be more conducive for our offense.

There are 22 Division I teams in New York. When I said "New York," I meant the state, not NYC and its suburbs. Taking ourselves, Big East's St. John's, ACC's Syracuse, and A10's Fordham and St. Bonaventure out leaves these 17 mid-majors:

America East: 3 (Albany, Binghamton, and Stony Brook)
Ivy: 2 (Columbia and Cornell)
Metro Atlantic Athletic: 6 (Canisius, Iona, Manhattan, Marist, Niagara, and Siena)
Mid-American: 1 (Buffalo)
Northeast: 3 (Long Island, St. Francis, and Wagner)
Patriot: 2 (Army West Point and Colgate)

The fact that HU isn't hosting a D1 team at home isn't just disappointing, it's flat out embarrassing. Speedy, that's pitiful. And that's on you. There is NO excuse for that. This has nothing to do with his first year - people know him. If anything it should be easier. What the heck is going to be different in year 2? lol nothing.

HU has lobbed out garbage scheduling excuses for YEARS - nearly EVERY team in the CAA has a significant home game EVERY year - EVERY year numerous mid majors across the country do it. Every Single Year. Just not HU. We must be really special.

Princeton, Bucknell and Detroit Mercy are all D1.
