Ray up to 28. He's 6/10 after the 3/9 start. Also 3/4 at the line after starting 2/5 there.

Carrying HU on his back. Looks a lot like the OT win in the CAA semis against UDel two years ago, with JWF carrying HU to OT.

Delaware tied it, and we lead 61-59 with 7:50 left. We have 7 fouls, and Delaware's fifth was an offensive foul by Painter. That gives Delaware 4 turnovers in the second half, which is more than the 3 they had in the first half. We have only 1 second half turnover. Ray leads all scoers with 28. Kevin Anderson made all five threes and has 17. The next most are three Delaware players with 11.

Edit: The foul to was changed to on us. Now we have 8 fouls and Delaware has 4.

Edit: We lead 65-61. I don't know why Delaware called timeout with 5:56 left because they have 1 more left. We have the maximum 3 left.

Well we survive and advance 83-75. We pull away late but our horrid FT shooting kept Delaware in the game. Farrelly put Silverio in late on offense and he drains two FTs then Krammer back on D

And as mentioned and hoped, Ray makes up for his 1st half with a MONSTER 2nd! Very good first W against a tough team and a tough matchup for HU after a big layoff - this is a major momentum builder, I know every tourney win is, but this one just feels bigger because of the big questions coming in - this team can jump off from this one.

Great job by the team and the staff, this was a big first hurdle - stoke the fire, bring that championship mettle to front, way to go fellas, game 1, 2 more!

A lot of smaller reasons they won, all extremely valuable and needed, but bottom line, J-Ray just would just not let them lose today.

Bingo. And THAT'S what you need from your star to win a championship, just like Buie. In the Chronicle article Ray was quoted as saying "3 games, 3 wins." I loved the matter of factness in that quote, it's small but I find things like that to be a good sign - his mentality seems focused and driven, and as he's shown, he CAN do it.

The streakiness is rough, but he can make up for it in big time ways, today being an example of it. As I said before, Ray is essentially the best player in the tourney now sans Lewis. This is his time to shine. Keep playing like that and big things can happen in this tourney.

Love me some Burgess, no secret there. If he can continue to play a grade above to beef up whatever Ray does, this team can do it. And let's not discount Mr. Kante either, he came up HUGE against a very good opponent that can equal him in many ways. He was a major factor. Big hurdle overcome here.

This was a momentum builder, it wasn't perfect, FT's were awful, and plenty more to pick on, BUT this isn't that kind of time or season - this is just about winning. That's it. Just win. I could give 2 rips right now about style points. This isn't that kind of team. JUST WIN BABY.

We outscored Delaware in the second half 47-37 to win 83-75. It was much better than our horrible endings in both regular season games at Delaware. Ray had 34 points and 5 rebounds. Kante had 14 points, 13 rebounds, and 2 blocks. He made 6 of 7 field goals and 2 of 6 free throws. Coburn shot 4-6 and scored 12. He didn't have a rebound in 22 minutes. Burgess had 11 points, 9 rebounds, and 8 assists. Cramer had 5 points and 9 rebounds. Silverio scored 5, Schutte scored 2, and Green didn't shoot in 8 minutes. Ray and Burgess played the whole game, and we had only 34 bench minutes with 18 by Silverio, 8 by Schutte, and 8 by Green. We shot threes great at 8-18 (.444), had 44 rebounds (1 short of our season-high and 9 more than Delaware), and only 8 turnovers (1 more than our season-low). Through January, we were shooting threes .306. In our five games in February and March, we shot threes at least .429 four times, and shot them 50-122 (.410).

Kevin Anderson led Delaware with 22 points and 5 assists, but he made only 3 of 11 twos. He had all 3 of Delaware's steals. Dylan Painter had 15 points and 9 rebounds. Ryan Allen had 15 points, shot 3-13 with 8 free throws made, and had only 1 assist. Johnny McCoy had 11 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists off the bench, but he had 4 points without any rebounds or assists in the second half. Ebby Asamoah had 5 points and 8 rebounds. He shot field goals 1-4 with all of the attempts being threes. He almost tripled his average of 2.7 rebounds before today. Aleks Novakovich scored 3, shot 1-5, and fouled out in 11 minutes. Andrew Carr had 2 points shot 1-7, had 1 rebound, and fouled out. Anthony Ochefu had 2 points and 3 fouls in 7 minutes. Gianmarco Arletti didn't do anything in the last 14 seconds. Delaware had 63 from their top four scorers, but everyone else combined to score 12 and shot field goals 4-18 (.222).

It was the first time from 2002-2003 to the present that we had a player with at least 34 points, a player with at least 13 rebounds, and a player with at least 8 assists. Surprisingly, the only game in that time we came close to doing that was in a loss by 16. We lost 89-73 at Northeastern on January 21, 2006 when Loren Stokes scored 32, Aurimas Kieza had 13 rebounds, and Carlos Rivera had 8 assists. That includes 601 games.

http://stats.statbroadcast.com/statmoni ... ?id=340271 will have statistics of Elon at James Madison at 2:30 P.M.

Yeah, the streakiness is okay though at this point in the season as long as they find ways to win the other games. It's very tough to win three in three days the same way. So, today, Ray carried them while Burgess had the near triple-double and Coburn was fairly quiet with foul trouble (though he did contribute also today).

Maybe tomorrow night, Ray's off and only scores 12 points, but Coburn scores over 20, going 5/10 from 3, while Kante and Cramer complement Coburn.

And then maybe Ray has another big game or all five starters are in double figures on Tuesday. Or maybe they just grind that one out with defense.

We'll see, but that's what happens in a tournament like this. I said this a while back and actually asked Farrelly about it during the regular season - they are a versatile team that can win in a variety of different ways. That can be a detriment in the regular season when guys you rely on regularly are so streaky. But in a tourney like this, it can be a strength. Doesn't matter if they win in three totally different ways as long as they win three. And they already got one.

Elon having a lot of trouble scoring. Shooting just 4/18. JMU on a 17-3 run after trailing 10-6. Duke up, 23-13 at the under-8 (7:58).

Obviously a huge win but playing a little of the Devil's advocate here if we shoot 17/29 from the F.T. line again which doesn't even take into consideration the missed front ends we will not be cutting nets IMO. Both Kante and Burgess need to clean up their act here. This game isn't close if we are just shooting decently from the Foul line and considering that we shut down Carr today after he had huge games against us in the first two games. As much as anything else in this game locking down Carr was one of the big reasons we won this game after shooting 59% from the foul line.

I haven't seen anyone comment on why Masic didn't get on the floor? Did I miss something here? Silverio played decent but I thought he got burned by Anderson at the top of the key in consecutive three's after we had taken a 7 point lead. More of an observation then a criticism since Anderson was feeling it at times!

Now 29-22, JMU at the under-4.

Considering Elon has yet to make a 2-pt. FG with 3:29 left in the half, being down 7 isn't so bad. They're 5/12 from 3, yet 0/11 from 2 -- which shows you what guys work on today. Everyone wants to be Steph Curry instead of also developing mid-range shots or scoring in the paint.

Something to keep in mind for tomorrow and perhaps (hopefully) Tuesday - Ray and Burgess each played 40 minutes today.

Nice Team Win

Everyone did what they need to do

Ray scored - (off night from the stripe)
Burgess li' bit of everything (a turnover or two less would be nice)
Kante solid in the paint scoring and boarding (also got hit those free throws)
Cramer was nice off the glass
Coburn hmmmm - Look out tomorrow - when he has an off night - fouls hurt him today
Silvero was a nice compliment with Coburn tonight (the combined for 17 points But NO rebounds and 1 assist)

I also thought Buress had the athleticism to be a player - his hard work accelerated my expectations

Nice win - a few more from the line would be nice and I am counting on Coburn tomorrow

Elon not ready to go home yet. Down 54-39, the Phoenix has used an 18-6 run to get within 60-57 with 6:56 left. Could be an interesting finish.

Elon pulls it off. They beat JMU 72-71 and will face Hofstra tomorrow evening.

Told ya'll to beware of them before this tourney started.

4-for-4 for the tourney. I"m sticking with Northeastern and Drexel in the night session.
