Yes we thought our pitching would be a strength and if Venturini can bring her A game we will be tough to beat and Mullin has pitched very well also. The thing that's very encouraging is that we're starting to hit the ball. This will be the key I believe.

What should be mentioned also regarding Venturini is that in two games she pitched against S.B. she had 17 strikeouts. Very, very impressive.

So we are playing Virginia today in a doubleheader Virginia throws their ace at us after 2 1/2 innings Virginia leads one to nothing
Their pitcher has faced nine of our batters, and has struck out 7
Haley Venturini has given up one on one hit and struck out one through two innings

We tie the game at the top of the3rd on a hit by Manto a throwing error puts her on 2nd and Ioppolo hit a double that gets past the diving left fielder. We leave two on base.

We get out of the inning only giving up 1 run. They're up 2-1. Somehow we had to come back on to the field and get another out they get caught in a run down between 1st and 2nd but get another run in during this planned run down?? 3-1??

After the announcer explains that an obstruction call made against us don't know who catcher (maybe) teams came back out on the field and it was 3-1 and the 4th yes a 4th run on the run down between 1st and second. Ridiculous so what was a 2-1 lead turns into a 4-1 lead???

So today we played UMBC after seven innings. There was no score over the next two innings, both teams scored one run each
In the top of the 10th inning, we score 3 runs and win the game5-2
We did have trouble scoring, but as their starter tired, we were able to take advantage of her
Hofstra used three pitchers to secure the win

So looking at the next series, I see we play Monmouth over the weekend. This looks like a split three game series. We played two games on Friday have Saturday off and play the third game on Sunday. Does anyone know the reason for this?

Most Northeast schools are moving their Saturday games, many baseball games around me, due to the anticipated heavy rain on Saturday

We split a doubleheader with Monmouth today losing the 1st game 9-2. Venturini charged with 6 runs on 6 hits 2 walks a hbp and a wild pitch along with getting 8 K's. She just didn't have great pitch control all over the place and Mullin who came in to relieve her gives up 3 runs on 4 hits one of those a grand slam 2 of those runs charged to Haley. In the second game we squeak by 6-5 Apsel gets the win giving up 5 runs but only 1 earned after Alanna Morse makes two errors playing third in the 6th inning. We score 2 runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead back. Pisapia pitches 1.1 giving up no runs or hits. Brianna Morse with an opposite field three home run in this game. Giordano hit her 6th home run of the season in the 1st game.

I went to the rubber game of this series today absolutely beautiful weather. We score two runs in the first inning on a single by Collins and a hard hit long home run to center field by who else Meghan Giordano. We were winning 2-0 and that held up as we tack on another run by Alanna Morse in the 6th with her single with two on. Haley Venturini didn't give up any runs but gave up 3 walks and hit a batter. She pitched out of trouble gave up 2 hits and struck out 5 in 4 innings. Kudos to Alanna Morse playing 3rd who has made errors in her freshman year but made two strong throws to 2nd base on bunt attempts trying to move up runners. She showed a strong accurate arm on two bunt attempts. Pisapia came in to relieve Haley in the top of the 5th and was very effective giving up a few hits but no runs shutting down Monmouth for 3 innings. We're now 5-1 in the conference and playing well even getting timely hits and hitting some long balls.

Just a quick comment about our hitters on this team as we start to raise our batting averages into respectability. Collins the leadoff hitter is hitting .307 with 27 hits, Giordano in the 2 slot is hitting .286 with 7 homeruns and 13 rbi's, Chelsea Manto is a .267 hitter now hitting at the bottom of the lineup was leadoff last year. Ioppolo (1st base) is hitting .260 with 12 RBI's catcher Vaillancourt .250 Brianna Morse .294 DP her sister freshman Alanna is hitting .211 but has 11 RBI's. We're hitting .228 as a team but when you use just the starters on this team our BA is quite higher then this. IDK why Brianna Morse just started playing recently as DP but she's a lefty at bat that hits with power. She has 6 RBI'S in just 34 at bats. She hit a ball off the left field wall in yesterdays game and has 1 home run. So if we continue to hit not just small ball with consistent pitching we are going to win quite a few games.
