Hofstra would easily be their best win, IMO, which also makes me question the similar Kenpom numbers. We know those often need to settle out more as they can often be misleading early in the season. Columbia's record and the Kenpom number look good, but I think Hofstra has been far better tested to this point and should win. Tougher on the road though.

Also, lions vs. Lions tonight!
Thanks for posting this.

As you mention it could still be off due to small data sample with the beginning of the season but overall kenpom will be much more accurate with its prediction model than espn analytics (especially for the mid major matchups); never understand this boards obsession with bringing up how bad the espn analytics are. Just ignore it.

I do agree with you that if Hofstra brings the energy it did vs Penn it will be a good game with us coming out with the win.

ESPN is the elephant in the room for overall sports coverage....that is the source for most of us and its easy to go on its site and get information quickly. The disparuty between chance to win and the spread only became an issue late last year.

I always still check it, although it's mainly for this now... "Let's see how out of whack the win percentage vs. the spread will be THIS time!:

The official font is free for commercial use, believe it or not. The result was from procrastinating doing real work.

They both look good but I like the attention to detail and making the font here match the new school athletics font, so feel free to procrastinate more when it's to our benefit.

I might be DeCady's biggest fan but this is getting silly. He cant be taking half our shots

Team feels a little flat and tired, but obviously early

I’m not a fan of Sunday and in this game he has cost us at least 8 points because he doesn’t get off the floor to rebound and smaller player score off him at will. Awful!

1/6 so far while no one else has more than four FGA for Hofstra (while Patterson and Davis are each 2/4), so yeah. Fully agree here.

Columbia looks better than I expected. I think I underestimated them because of their much weaker schedule than who Hofstra played coming in.

They are a real test in a few ways for Hofstra so far tonight: for Hofstra's transition D, the way Columbia pushes the ball quickly even after Hofstra makes; they rebound very well, and they set good screens to set up their 3-point shooters (Hofstra keeps going under the screens instead of over them or fighting through them, and that's not working so far).

But Hofstra is still hanging in. After trailing 13-4 and 31-20, it's now 31-25.

Columbia made 10 of 13 after starting 1/6 (missing the last five in that stretch).

Unfortunately, I think Merrimack is more his speed. ;)

Ugh, that banked 3 ar the buzzer was big. 42-32 at the half instead of seven.

And 42 allowed by the half after allowing 58, 58, and 60 at The Palestra is a big dropoff. Gotta fix that and bring the pressure again in the second half.

Fitting end to that half. Whether its the cumulative effect of the 3 games in 3 days or overconfidence, Hofstra did not come ready to play that half and Columbia made them pay. Seems like they hired the right coach

Wills certainly brings some defensive intensity off the bench. Nice job getting back in the game without Cruz. But this Noland kid can play. That was a tip your cap 3 right there to open it back up to 6

Would've been nice to get that one but another close, non-conference loss to a good opponent this year (along with UCF and Temple). That, along with their good wins, provides some good hope for CAA play. Aside from Iona (and even that one ended up as a single-digit loss), they've been in every game.

Has there been another team in the country that has had more lucky, last-second buzzer beaters go against them than Hofstra the past couple of years? This might've been a different outcome if not for that banked-in 3 to make it a 10-point game instead of seven at the half.

Also, they always have to start well. they lost this game falling behind 13-4 at the start. They were playing uphill all game after that. It was right there for the taking. On to Pitt. Winnable game. Get that one and this one won't sting so much.

What a shame. Lose the chance to keep any minimal buzz about the team going.

They've proven they'll fight and dont quit, which is great. And agreed does provide some real hope for conference play.

But the lackluster slow starts are becoming something of a concerning trend. Cost them the Iona game and again tonight. Columbia is a solid team, but if we want to raise the expectation level to where this team has shown it can play in spurts no moral victories against an opponent like that.
