Hofstra rebranding

I didn't think much of it when I saw it, but cactus and Mikey make a good point - if it were flipped, I wouldn't be too happy with an unnecessary shot taken at Hofstra in a video that introduced a new Stony Brook logo. They're seem so happy just to win the Long Island area (that video, the Pride of Long Island slogans painted on The Mack walls), if they're even doing that. How about setting larger sights, like being the best in the CAA or competing better nationally among mid-major athletic programs in general?

The roaring pride of lions and the graphics were good but yeah, the choice of the football field when that program has been long gone, and also the Big Ten/SEC-sized stadium when HU football was dropped for not coming close to being able to fill its own stadium that was a fraction of the capacity when we still had football made it seem like they were trying to be something they're not. Just highlight what actual positives we have and roll with that.

The comments/feedback are unfortunately mostly not very positive on that video on X. Would've been great to be excited about a good rebranding and rollout of it, but they seemed to have missed the mark this time.

That video is a result of the athletic department being more concerned about branding, image and marketing than actual athletics. Even more convinced after this episode that Cole has got to go.

The video is a joke as is the rebranding. When you can't put together a good program you rebrand and sell cartoons. Cole must go because he's done nothing and is now embarrassing Hofstra athletics.

Molloy has added lightweight football to its sports offerings and it has helped enrollment significantly, especially among males, which the school has had trouble attracting....no scholoarships and they play the serive academies and Ivies...great idea on the part of school president James Lentini who is a good friend of mine.

That IS a good idea and you never know where that could lead.

Villanova dropped its football program in 1981 after the BOT cited weak attendance and monetary reasons (sounds familiar?).

Under heavy pressure from alumni and students, the program was reinstated by the BOT three years later. Obviously, a drastically different situation (as Hofstra still sits without a program 16 years later), but you have to start somewhere, and it starts with generating any kind of interest the way Molloy has done. In Villanova's case, after they were reinstated in 1984, they started with a five-game schedule against D-III competition, then joined I-AA (now FCS) in the Yankee Conference in 1987, were officially back in 1988, and ultimately won an FCS national championship in 2009. It would be nice if Hofstra had similar foresight and long-term thinking, starting with something along the lines of what Molloy is currently doing.

Yea, my thoughts are that the NIL stuff is the final nail in the coffin for dreams of a return of Hofstra football.

It can't be costing Molloy much, yet they see the value in it and may have a plan to grow it down the road.
