Re: MBB Game 14 - @ Delaware, 12/29/22, 7 PM EST
http://defiantlydutch.blogspot.com/2022 ... aware.html is Jerry Beach's "I'll Be Quirky: Delaware." The 96-48 win over Old Westbury was our fourth unicorn score of the season, meaning the first time we won by that score. In that and the 102-51 win over John Jay on December 12, 2021, we exactly doubled the last two non-Division I teams we played. Carlos's 13 assists are the most by a Hofstra player since Juan'ya Green had 14 on January 21, 2016 with help from triple overtime, and the most by a Hofstra player in regulation since Dwan McMillan had 15 on February 25, 2012. Carlos's 7 steals were the most by a Hofstra player since Stevie Mejia had 7 on February 16, 2013 in the season remembered for players criminal stealing.
KenPom expects us to win 75-74.

Estrada did play in the real last game against USF so I’m assuming he's playing tonight. He played the full 40 minutes for some reason i can't explain.
I’m not counting the D3 scrimmage.

Estrada, Carlos, Thomas, Dubar, and Boachie-Yiadom are starting. Delaware is starting Jameer Nelson Jr. (guard, 19.8 ppg), LJ Owens (guard, 10.5 ppg), Christian Ray (guard, 8.2 ppg), Ebby Asamoah (guard, 6.2 ppg), and Jyare Davis (forward, 16.6 ppg). Ray averages 9.6 rebounds. Davis leads them with 3.5 assists, and it is rare for a forward to do that. Nelson Jr. averages 3.1 assists. Every starter on both teams except for Estrada played in all of his team's games.

Although we're up by 15 points at the half with Estrada leading the way with 18 points IMO much too much one on one play. We've been hitting our shots including a nice half from Thomas who I think had 13 but would love to see more ball movement. D-Stone sitting a lot of the half with Plotnikov filling in admirably. Delaware not playing great D yet in this game and Nelson for Delaware getting 13 points with probably half of those from the FT line.

Yes but viewing thru my fios. I had to pay to add that channel which I know at one time I did get. I downgraded my Fios since I was paying a ridiculous amount of money for channels I never watched. The Shadow wrote:Triplec2195, Are you able to view the game tonight?

Best win of the season IMO. Never in doubt in the second half
Huge games by Estrada and Thomas. Best game I’ve seen JC play as well - maybe the OW game was a confidence booster.
Williams and NBY played pretty well against a smaller team.
Very little playing time for Dubar - assume Speedy was sticking with the lineup that was keeping the lead with German.
Surprising not to see almost any of Marshall tonight.
Great win to start conference play.

Pride97, agree with everything you wrote. This was, by far, the best JC game of his HU career. When Coach Speedy gave JC a chest bump when coming to the bench, it spoke volumes on how great JC was playing tonight. HU was never trailing in this game. I hope the team can build on this victory to get a win streak going in the first few weeks of CAA play.

Looked at the box score. Was it a mistake or did Williams get zero rebounds for the game?

Looked at that myself wow JC had 7 rebounds and 8 assists 10 points and only 2 turnovers. That's a nice game for Carlos. However the way both Thomas and Estrada were shooting you know he was going to get some assists. Estrada as the play by play guy kept saying was virtually unstoppable. He said the best player in this league and it was pretty obvious. Thomas also came out of the gate on fire and although he cooled off 20 points is a really strong game for him. IDK what happened to Dubar but in the 1st half he was on a break away and at the very least should have gotten fouled but he got the ball stripped under the basket. I don't think Speedy was to happy with that play but kind of shocked he didn't play that many minutes. A nice win and a good way to start CAA play.stuball888 wrote:Looked at the box score. Re: MBB Game 14 - @ Delaware, 12/29/22, 7 PM EST
When one guy scores 31, another guy scores 20, and four other guys score at least 8, the team is probably going to win. Would anybody have predicted that Carlos would lead us in rebounds (he entered averaging 1.8) and Plotnikov would lead us in free throw attempts (he entered averaging 1.1)?
Hofstra won 87-73, and the teams combined to have the second half outscore the first half 87-73.
Edit: Here is the CAA's Twitter poll for player of the night so far (there are ten hours left to vote):
Estrada: 51.4 percent
Robinson (Charleston): 18.1 percent
Telfort (Northeastern, scored 31): 16.7 percent
Williams (Drexel): 13.9 percent

That’s why I switched to YouTube Tv. It’s not perfect, but it’s cheaper and has most of the channels I watch (including CBS sports net)triplec2195 wrote:Yes but viewing thru my fios. Re: MBB Game 14 - @ Delaware, 12/29/22, 7 PM EST
Tonight was exactly why I didn't worry too much about some of the lackluster play OOC. It is ALL about CAA play for them and this was a much better result than I expected - not that they won, but how easy it was. This figured to a close game that could go either way, but they looked serious, focused, and ready to play winning ball in-conference. This felt like an early statement game from HU in conference play. Delaware is the defending champ but probably won't be as good as Charleston, Towson, or UNCW this year. That said, for HU to go there and pretty much take control and keep the Blue Hens at a safe distance for a good majority of the game, was more than I (and I think more than a lot of us) expected to start things off in CAA play. The trick now is obviously to build on this. But throw the OOC slate out. They are 1-0 with a very comfortable win and that's a nice place to start. Don't slide back off of this now. TCB with another easy win in the CAA home opener next, start 2-0, and they can be off and running.

Just got back from the game. Great win.
JC facilitated very well tonight.
Aaron was in his bag all night. Loved seeing him cook.
Thomas was awesome
DStone rode the bench, but German was good. Great defense from him tonight.
Hopefully Saturday is another nice win. Maybe they saw my thread about the lackluster OOC. They turned it on tonight. Happy to see

Pretty cool that this was the 100th all-time meeting. With the win tonight, HU is 66-34 all-time against Delaware. HU has also won the last five, 12 of the last 14, and 18 of the last 21 against the Blue Hens.Jojogunne wrote:Hofstra preview:

According to the preview, this will be our 100th game vs. Delaware. We've played the Hens more than we've played anyone else. Drexel ranks second on the all-time list (96 games) and Towson third (75 games).
