Syracuse is preseason #5/7, for what it's worth. They finished 2015 #1 in the RPI, so that's a very good sign if the scrimmage is a true indicator of what the season could be like.

Tierney being interviewed about the scrimmages and in typical Tierney fashion he doesn't give much away. He did seem to be in a good mood though, take that as you will.

One thing that interests me is Clarke's performance against Syracuse. Ben Williams is an elite FOGO and a 2nd team Preseason All-American. Tierney is right when he says the scores don't matter, but if Clarke held his own against Williams then that is a tremendously positive sign.

Clarke has adapted well to the FO rules changes.

I understand why coaches don't want to say too much in the preseason. I was actually surprised that Coach Tierney mentioned specific players by name.

Looking forward to the scrimmages vs. Hobart (10 am) and Rutgers (2 pm) on Saturday.

I think Tierney realized he shouldn't have said Osman in particular and felt the need to rattle off half the roster lol. Very excited for scrimmages, also excited to see how UNC looks, as well as get a handle on other CAA play.

Guy on LaxPower said he approximated:

"Hobart 11 Hofstra 8
Rutgers 10 Hobart 5
Rutgers 11 Hofstra 10"

If so that's pretty ugly. Not sure what we were experimenting with but those are two games I hope we'd win in the regular season. Let's hope it was a lot of fiddling with the lineup and moving stuff around. We have a late start this year (two more weeks) so we kind of have the luxury of using more time to figure out our game plan.

In news of future opponents:
UNC mauled Michigan today, 20-10. Any hopes of them rebuilding rather than reloading are fading fast.
OSU squeaked by Furman with a buzzer-beater goal. I'm still curious how they were the preseason #12 w/o King. They couldn't score to save their life today.
Delaware got beaten pretty badly by Bucknell, not a good sign for the CAA.

CAA woes continue this weekend with Delaware losing to MSM and UMass dropping to Army. Only Towson looked good as they locked down Mercer, evidently their acclaimed defense deserves the praise it's received.

UNC breezed past Furman today. Next week's matchup looks to be an uphill battle.

I know the bigger picture of a good conf is seeding and at-large possibilities, but right now I'd say HU doesn't need to worry about the CAA, just needs to focus on getting THEIR OWN program right, winning the conf no matter how good or bad it is, and returning to the NCAAT.

There is only 1 mission right now, and only 1 successful outcome. And unlike the mens hoops team, this staff has had PLENTY of time to establish things. No more 'rebuilding' (which I've yet to actually see). I don't care if the CAA is the top in the land or the bottom of the barrel, it's NCAA or bust, period.

St. John's just lost to Jacksonville, so they're looking pretty weak again this year. The OOC schedule right now would have us as underdogs in four games (UNC, SBU, Georgetown, OSU) big favorites in four others (Vermont, St. John's, NJIT, Providence) and probably a dead split with Princeton. As I've said before, the Princeton game is important because it probably gives us a good look at a team that will most likely be like Drexel or Fairfield talent wise.

IE Junior and Sophomore classes, particularly sophomore, could be around for a long time.

My prediction for tomorrow: UNC takes a 14-11 victory as our inexperienced SSDMs can't keep up with Breschi's unlimited firepower down south. But who knows? Let's go Pride!

Let's hope Clarke can keep winning us possessions. It's early but Byrne seems like that finisher we've needed.

5-2 good guys at the half. Clarke is doing well and UNC seems frustrated but we need to press the momentum and give Byrne looks. Anyone know why Brier Davis isn't playing? Is he hurt or in the doghouse?

Josh Byrne now with a hat trick and an assist, as Hofstra leads the 5th ranked team in the country 6-2 in the 3rd quarter. Player of the week performance, regardless of final result.
