Glad we got a big. Is he eligible next year? VC has him as an expected red shirt. We'll be dwarfs next year without more height and depth in the paint.

Previously averaged 10.1 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 0.7 bpg in 32 games (2017-18) and 10.8 ppg, 7.6 rpg, 1.2 bpg in 31 games (2018-19) for Stetson.
Only played one minute for Arkansas last year after a redshirt there.

Will have two seasons remaining.
This is a BIG get no pun intended however he had knee surgery last year. Hopefully he comes in healthy lord knows we need a Kante replacement.

2020-21 (RJr. at Arkansas):
Named to the 2021 SEC Winter Honor Roll … Had knee (right) surgery in the summer of 2020 … Began practicing with the team on Dec. 26, 2021 … Officially came off the injured list as he dressed for the Florida game (Feb. 16) … Saw his first game action at South Carolina, playing the final two minutes, and he pulled down a rebound.

A little different than the "typical" HU Big. Certainly he can play back to the basket, but he has very soft touch mid-range jumper. Listed as a PF and not a C.

And Hallelujah - he shot 73% from the stripe in his last season at Stetson!!!!

From the little video I've seen, I LIKE!.

I haven't looked at any video but did look at box scores noticed he played games against Cooks in the ASUN so they're familiar with each other. He had 19 points against Duke a few years back in a Duke blowout. Also of note is that he only averaged 22.9 minutes a game so all his stats are with only playing about half a game. Started every game in his last season with Stetson but I wonder why only playing limited minutes. If healthy will be a big plus here.

Trying to keep track of all the moving pieces. Is this what our official roster looks like? Only 11 scholarship players. Could we be adding one or two more?

Believe that is all correct. David Green went to LA Tech.

If we have in fact lost both Silverio and Bethea then we have three more scholarships to give since I don't believe Ray's scholarship counts towards the 13. So maybe we could be holding onto one of those but I believe we sign at least another PF type player. We need a fail safe here in case someone gets hurt.

Nice work -
I am so confused with-
1) our new transfers coming in - can they (all) play right away?
2) with the COVID eligibility - a guy like Burgess - how many years does he have left? 2? 3?
3) have we heard anything about Silverio (seems like odd man out), Truehart (Id keep him IF he can come back) or Bethea (also no downside to keeping him)

Seems like Speedy looking at long lean athletic bigs (why Id think Truehart might be worth keeping) then the big-middle-cloggers (Gustys, Sabaty, Kante) - to play a running stylle of ball

Welcome aboard Abayomi!
From what I hear all will be eligible and Bethea, Silverio and Trueheart are all gone.
Much needed get in a big...would like to see us sign a freshman big for the future although given the current state of college basketball, transfers seem to be the way to go.

Would like to see a real big BIG someone 6ft 10 or taller a real shot blocker rebounder who is a defensive specialist to give our guards the freedom to press and cover the paint

Isn't that what this kid is?? He has a long wing span and is a shot blocker and rebounds!

Did not play major minutes only 24, per game they are solid numbers but i would like to see someone with a little bulk as the other Caa teams have the 6ft 10 plus and 250 lbs centers who could give him some trouble Could see foul trouble if he gets pushed around a bit in the post

My understanding is that essentially this past year doesn't count as a year of eligibility for anyone

I agree HUSID, but I think signing a talented freshman would create a playing time issue by his soph season. With Abayomi having two more years, I could see us signing another Big that has one or two more years. Then next season, go after a real talented big freshman who will only have to sit and learn his freshman season, becoming the main 5 by his soph season. Alas, it would be nice if in the real world you could map out these types of recruiting strategies, have all the pieces fall nicely into place, and then successfully implement them
