MSOC 2026
Re: MSOC 2026
Very heartbreaking loss to give up a goal with 46 seconds left. I honestly felt Hofstra played too tentatively and are a very good defensive team but aren't very good at playmaking though their leading scorer Carlson was out (hopefully just for one game). The crowd was large which was great though I felt Hofstra should have promoted that Sarah Whelan would be there and to promote future games. It was a great chance to promote not just soccer but other sports as well and they should have done more.
Re: MSOC 2026
That was brutal - couldn't attend due to kids practices, but watched the 2nd half on TV - you just can't cause a corner like that in the last minute. Very poor play by the D.
Team played tough all game, the D overall was strong, but we just don't create enough scoring opportunities or take enough shots. The bad part from the D is way too much booting the ball up the field instead of controlling and maneuvering it up each level to run an offensive attack. It really felt more like some luck or just muscling it out whenever we did have chances. Not gonna cut it.
Now, Vermont is certainly a strong team, and they get some credit for driving HU to play that way, the D was constantly on their heels. But this program has high standards, and HU needs to be better. That game should've ended a tie which would've been a positive. Hard to call an L to a ranked team a bad loss, but with how this game played out it wasn't a 'good' one either. We lost this more than they won it, so not a great look for us.
And it's also a negative as HU is already out of the rankings and this L won't help. Really need to be ranked to get strong seeding in the NCAAT if you make it. They need to regroup and get more coordinated and aggressive - they're fortunate to have 1 more big opportunity vs a ranked squad with a top Princeton team coming to Hempstead in the near future. Gotta win until then, and then need to play their butts off to steal an upset W.
Planning to be there Sat - have to say, this loss took some excitement out of it for me, this should've been a momentum builder, and now it feels like this team needs a gut check to come out and wax Binghamton. They need to beat that team at least 3-0 and show they've still got prowess.

Re: MSOC 2026
Hopefully we get our best player back and get more aggressive on the ofensive end. Still plenty of time this season to get ranked, win the CAA and make a strong run in the NCAA's.
Agree though, it was a BRUTAL way to end this game, heartbreaker.

We won 2-0 hosting Binghamton. https://gohofstra.com/sports/mens-socce ... core/14469 is the box score. We had more shots 12 to 8, and more shots on goal 6 to 2. The attendance was 375. We did not write a recap yet.

Freshmen scored both goals vs. Bingo.
Re: MSOC 2026
Ben Schulz, another freshman, scored both goals vs. Loyola.

https://gohofstra.com/boxscore.aspx?path=msoc&id=14334 is the box score. We had more shots 11 to 8, and more shots on goal 3 to 0. Loyola Maryland fell to 1-7-1, so 2 goals and 3 shots on goal is not impressive if we are an NCAA Tournament level team. The attendance was 48.

Re: MSOC 2026
Do you guys know why Keane only played about 30 minutes and Carlson only played 20?
Very impressive with the various freshmen scoring and playing huge minutes. Really like Hoey as he is speedy and has great playmaking skills.

Men are going on a nice conf run here, big one on Sat, hoping to be there with the fam again!
Re: MSOC 2026
Congrats to FR Ben Schulz on being named CAA Rookie of the Week. He scored both goals in our 2-0 win over Loyola:

It took a few games, but our offense, sparked by several freshmen and transfers, is coming into shape.

Crickets here! No comments on our BRUTAL LOSS, 3-0 to Stonybrook?
Hugely disappointing!!!!

Re: MSOC 2026
Horrible, horrible loss though not as bad as losing to them in the CAA Tournament last year. I wasn't at the game but when I looked at the score, I was in shock. I do know we started a freshman at d due to injuries but no excuse for this loss. They have to regroup and will have to play MUCH MUCH better to have a chance vs Princeton. Also, I saw UNCW is ranked in the top 15 and Charleston beat the number 1 seed South Carolina recently, so a CAA Championship is no gimme.
Re: MSOC 2026
We got a 0-0 hosting Princeton, who entered 6-2-2 and receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Poll. Princeton had much better statistics. Shots were 21 to 6, shots on goal were 6 to 1, and corner kicks were 11 to 4. We made 5 saves. I hate when shots on goal is not equal to the sum of goals and opponent's saves, and in this case 6 shots on goal does not equal 0 goals + 5 saves. If a shot was blocked by a defender that would have gone in, it should go in a separate category of blocked shots that are not on goal.
We go to Drexel on Saturday at 1:00 P.M.

Re: MSOC 2026
The mens team loss to SBU was a straight up embarrassment. 3-0?? That's a butt kicking to your local rival and a program that should not be anywhere close to HU's, period.
Happy to see they followed up that debacle of a performance with a strong showing against a very good Princeton team. I'll take the tie there as a net positive.
This team is good, but not quite up to standard at the moment - that said, I do believe they have also battled numerous significant injuries this season, so also want to be fair with some of the bad luck.
But either way, they need a strong showing in the CAAT - nothing less than a championship - that's the bar for success for this program.

On Senior Day, we won 2-0 hosting Monmouth. https://gohofstra.com/news/2026/10/17/m ... r-day.aspx is our recap titled "Hofstra Blanks Monmouth On Senior Day."
https://gohofstra.com/boxscore.aspx?path=msoc&id=14339 is the box score. We had more shots 14 to 11, and more shots on goal 7 to 4. However, that is not impressive hosting a team that entered with 2 wins, 2 ties, and 6 losses. The attendance was 350.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KwzRWOt ... kMAYcqIYzv is highlights.
Our loss to Stony Brook could cost us winning the division. Our three games before the CAA Tournament are all away, and Saturday November 24 at Northeastern is the only CAA game. Stony Brook has 3 CAA games left including tomorrow. If we win at Northeastern, we need Stony Brook to drop at least 3 points, meaning at least 1 loss or at least 2 ties. If we do not win at Northeastern, we need Stony Brook to drop more points. If we play CAA Tournament games at Stony Brook, the travel will be short, but it would still be better to win the division, get a bye, and play at home.

Re: MSOC 2026
Just keep winning. Gonna come down to the wire here, and the CAAT is likely to be a war. 1-0 mentality. All they can do.
