MBB Game 13 Quinnipiac, Dec. 21 (Sun) 1 PM
Re: MBB Game 13 Quinnipiac, Dec. 21 (Sun) 1 PM
If class were in session, we'd maybe get a couple hundred students behind the (east?) basket. Hopefully some commuters and their friends and family will fill that section

Tough day and time of the year for a home game...school out, NFL on TV and holiday shopping, visits, etc.
I'm hoping for say 1,500 people. I'm bringing my wife, 3 grand kids and my daughter and son in law!

Was looking for, but could not find, a Quinnipiac MBB discussion board. Always like to see what the other side thinks. Instead, I found this interview with TP. Have not watched it yet:

In the beginning of the clip, regarding the realities of NIL and schools like Quinnipiac basically prepping players for the next step in their college careers, he said, "I'm [like] a triple A baseball coach."
He also said his staff routinely sends scouting reports and positive and negative film clips that they'll review later as a team, initially to players' phones.

Should be interesting to hear from Pecora afterward, following his first game at The Mack in 16 years (ironically, the length of time he spent at Hofstra, seven years as an assistant and nine as a head coach), and before that, to see what he may dial up to try to slow Cruz Davis down again. Davis was only 4/17 in Hofstra's OT loss at Quinnipiac last year, but of course, it's significantly different now with Davis playing a lot more off the ball with Edmead as his PG.
Pecora already comes into this game with nine more wins (53 total) at Quinnipiac (in this third year there) than he had at Fordham. His 44 wins over his first two years with the Bobcats matched the total wins he had in five years coaching the Rams.

https://gobobcats.com/news/2025/12/20/m ... ong-island is Quinnipiac's preview titled "Bobcats Close Out Non-Conference Schedule Sunday on Long Island." It has mistakes. It says we beat Syracuse 79-69. It says we are fifth in Division I with 6.7 blocked shots, when we average exactly 4. Samson Reilly leads Division I shooting threes .580. ESPN excludes him because they require 2.5 makes per game. He has 2.4 makes per game in 12.1 minutes off the bench, and his 29 threes made are the fifth most by a player without a start. We already faced the player who made the most threes without starting, as Iona's Toby Harris leads with 36, including 1 against us.

KenPom expects us to win 78-72 with a 71 percent chance of winning.

Today's other CAA games are Charleston at Northern Kentucky (9-3) at 12:00 P.M., Stony Brook at Marist (7-3) at 1:00 P.M., Lehigh (4-8) at Monmouth at 1:00 P.M. on SNY, Maine (1-12) at Drexel at 2:00 P.M., and Campbell at Minnesota (6-5) at 6:00 P.M. on Big Ten Network.

We are starting Edmead, Davis, Plotnikov, DeCady, and Onuetu
Quinnipiac is starting Asim Jones (guard, 10.4 points, 4.3 assists), Nate Guerengomba (guard, 3.7 points), Amarri Monroe (forward, 15.8 points, 6.6 rebounds), Grant Randall (forward, 10.1 points, 6.3 rebounds), and Spence Wewe (forward, 3.0 points, 4.8 rebounds).
https://www.flohoops.com/live/214435 has video.
Edit: We lead 11-7. Davis scored 11 in the first 3:01. We do not have any assists or fouls. Players other than Davis are shooting 0-4. There were no defensive fouls by either team.

Anyone else stuck watching on Flo? Audio is a good 5-10 seconds behind the video. Checked multiple devices. So annoying.

Lucky to be tied at the half. Embarrassing effort from the entire team besides Cruz
If Zimmerman was playing for Quinnipiac we'd be getting blown out

Pecora seemed just a bit choked up during a pre-game tribute on the video boards, as the Hofstra crowd gave him a nice hand.
It's a very fitting grind for a Pecora homecoming. Each team shooting 34.0% (16/47), with Hofstra up, 45-44, at the U12 (11:36).

Impressive finish. Good teams find ways to win when they dont play their best and thats exactly what Hofstra did today.
Effort on the boards was the difference imo. Maybe they were inspired watching Mitchell Robinson last couple Knicks games. Lol
How was the crowd for everyone there? Hard to tell with the audio issues on Flo

Re: MBB Game 13 Quinnipiac, Dec. 21 (Sun) 1 PM
Hofstra was not at the top of its game, but still a nice win. Our bigs need to catch the ball. The dumb fouls committed down the stretch also have to stop. Quinnipiac however is a pretty good team so it was a nice way to end the out-of-conference schedule. A month ago I would have taken a 9-4 start with W's over Pitt and Syracuse in a heart beat.
Re: MBB Game 13 Quinnipiac, Dec. 21 (Sun) 1 PM
It turns out, Pecora was not only choked up then but could also barely speak at one point during the postgame presser. I always assumed he was happy he left Hofstra even though Fordham didn't work out well, but not the case at all. He has regretted that decision. He has always truly loved Hofstra and admitted after the game that he wished he had stayed. Respect to him for being so open and admitting that.
As for the game, it was reminiscent of the Penn game for Davis, to an ever larger degree in the first half. That game, Davis had 10 of HU's first 18, then was extremely quiet before helping Hofstra pull away late. This game was obviously a lot closer, but he had 20 of HU"s 31 at halftime, then disappeared for about the next 15 minutes, but he got those key late points when Hofstra needed them to help put Quinnipiac away.
Good to see Edmead keep his confidence and make some key 3s after really struggling from there, and to also start penetrating and either score in the paint or draw fouls to open up the 3 for him more (no coincidence).
Biggie was a key sidekick to Davis in the first half. It was really needed to soften the blow of those 10 straight misses that allowed the Bobcats to score 11 straight and turn a seven-point deficit into a four-point lead, before it was tied at the half.
And, as I have been saying for the past three seasons and continue to say, get Plotnikov more shots! If they did that over the course of the game, his late-game heroics, like at Syracuse and again today, may not be necessary.

Nice crowd today for the true home opener! Gotta love it

Through the tears, "I never should have left."-TP
Was gut wrenching. Lots of regret there, and fondness for his work home for 16 years. Very heart felt. I think he probably won over a lot who may have been on the fence regarding his legacy here.

Our 51 rebounds were our most against a Division I team since a 96-58 win hosting Stony Brook on December 13, 2016. That was 289 games ago.dutchPride86 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 21, 2025 4:17 pm Effort on the boards was the difference imo. Maybe they were inspired watching Mitchell Robinson last couple Knicks games. Lol
https://gohofstra.com/sports/mens-baske ... core/13839 is the box score.
https://gohofstra.com/news/2025/12/21/m ... ipiac.aspx is our recap titled "Hofstra Wins Fourth Straight With Victory Over Quinnipiac." Our 21 offensive rebounds were our most since we had 23 in an 86-80 loss at UNCW on January 7, 2012. That was 450 games ago.
