MBB Game 13 Quinnipiac, Dec. 21 (Sun) 1 PM

Post by Jojogunne »

After the high that we experienced with our big win up at Syracuse, we will conclude our out-of-conference schedule by hosting Quinnipiac for a rare Sunday game.

Our good friend Tom Pecora has the 8-3 Bobcats playing well. They rank 131 in the NCAA NET, not far behind us at 95, and we both defeated Pitt this season.

SO guard Jaden Zimmerman (17 ppg) and 6-7 SR Amarri Monroe (16 ppg), the reigning MAAC Player of the Year, are Quinnipiac's chief scoring threats.

For more about Quinnipiac see:

https://gobobcats.com/sports/mens-basketball

Both MSG SportsNet (cable) and FloCollege will carry the game.

And don't forget: the first 100 fans will receive free, game-worn Hofstra jerseys.

Need to add a Quinnipiac game at Syracuse before Sunday to make this an even bigger bragging rights game.

Like Hofstra playing the ACC twice within a week, the Bobcats will get a taste of CAA play before Hofstra does. Quinnipiac plays at Monmouth Wednesday before coming to Hempstead.

So Pumped to get our (home) season on the way -

I hope we get a nice showing for the Quinnipiac game -

I really like our starting 5 - and the athleticism that this group displays - I think this is as a traditional starting 5 that I can recall at HU -
Edmead is a point guard in the trusest fashion - handles the rock - drives dishes and goes to the line (and makes shots)
Cruz is scoring and leading the team - more so then I thought his game was
Plotnikov is now playing at the 3 - where he is spotting up and the receiver of our inside out game
DeCady is active and plays better closer to the basket then when he was hoisting up tre's
Onuetu is a beast in training - gets better each game - and plays really well vs. big better competion

Off our bench
Silas - certainly not an "athlete" but a big body that rebounds on the D-end and hits his foul shots
Patterson - a "dog" that does a bit of everything - need more consistancey and "experience" from his game
Willis (or Roberts) - hopefully one or both of the develop and grow into a viable entity that can hit a three when we need

Lets Go Pride

IMO I would prefer Biggie starting over DeCady but admit Josh has been playing better especially if he doesn't throw up any three's. Roberts is an up and coming star who will make Wills see very little playing time. He's averaging almost 7 points a game playing only 9 minutes. He may even take some of Preston's minutes but that remains to be seen if foul trouble presents itself.

Anyone going to the game, and is first 100 person, I would love to buy the jersey. I have contacted Hofstra via Instagram replies but to no avail. For a mid major program, pretty wild they dont respond to the fans that actually do interact. If they dont want to sell it, or cant, just say no. I think its an awesome giveaway though. Would have loved to go to the sale they had at the arena a few weeks ago, but live to far.

As long as its a Mens Nike Jersey, Size XL. Number isnt as important. Would love a #1, or #2, in blue. Gold also preferable over white. If you cant acquire, no worries at all. Appreciate the help. I will actually be trekking up to the game on the 29th vs. Campbell. Thank you JJG

Quinnipiac is currently up 60-36 early in the 2nd half at Monmouth, and Quinnipiacs leading scorer isnt even playing tonight. This game wont be easy Sunday

This is where we need to step up - love our "W" vs ACC Ptt and ' Cuse - but we need to able to compete the balance of our season and play our best vs these Mid-Majors - this will be one of the better teams we play at home this year - and Speedy and his roster needs to show that the past two upsets on the road were stepping stones to our being a top CAA team and a candidate to being ranked in the Mid-Majors polls

Speaking of Mid Major rankings - Tulsa - is in the Top 10 - one of Tulsa key players - is Hofstra ('20-'21-Freshman-F) David Green - Mahalik was still coaching that team.

Qinnipiac defeated Umass and Pitt, as well as Iona. Their roster looks like grown men

This will be a tough game for us and I'm worried thet we're coming off a week long layoff for exams, etc. while Quinnipiac played Monmouth and beat them handily. They have got to be considered the favorites in the MAAC.

Looking at team stats they score 79.8 pts. a game and we score 77.9 giving them a 2 point advantage but they give up 73.4 to our 66.3 giving us a 7 point advantage. We probably will be about a 5 point favorite in this game but I'd imagine looking at their schedule like has been said this will be a close game. I'm hoping we get a decent turnout for this game that's always a plus for the players. ESPN is giving us a 71.8% chance of winning so maybe their analytics aren't buying into their hot start.

For what it's worth, I think we've gotten better following some of the earlier losses. And none of them were blowouts

The only bad game we played all year was against Iona and we have developed an identity since then. A good one!

Yep. I was at the Iona game... gym was packed and atmosphere was off the charts with people amped for 1st game with their new head coach. Iona was like out of body experience hot to start and Hofstra looked completely shell shocked. We've come a long way quickly since then

As for Quinnipiac this weekend, as an out of town non season ticket holder been really pleased to see Hofstra try to get out and market this game (Ive gotten multiple emails and a text message from school in last couple days). Plus good media publicity with Cruz on the Field of 68 podcast and article in NY Post today.

All that being said, looking online seems like theres still TONS of seats available for Sunday. Shame general public and students have just totally tuned out the program

My observation is the student body (overall) just isn't interested in athletics. Maybe the University's demographics have changed the past few decades. Sports just aren't their thing. Probably holed up in their dorm/parent's house gaming.

If the team gets hot, the alumni and some of the community will turn out. Doesn't hurt that the pro football teams stink on ice! I expect a good crowd.

Everyone's gone home for the holidays. They won't be back till late January, when the spring semester begins.
