I hope our so called last get is a player that has some size otherwise we could be seeing a lot of Sunday.
Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
Not bad numbers
2024-25 (Junior): Appeared in 28 games with starts in 11 contests, as seven of those occurred in league action, including the first six SoCon games of the season… Scored 157 points, averaging 5.6 points per game, fifth on the team… Five games where she eclipsed double figures, including a season-high 14 against Furman (1/1)… Added 13 points against Florida State (Nov. 26) & Mercer (Jan. 12)… Pulled down 78 rebounds, including a season-high nine against Milligan (Dec. 19)… Led the squad with 67 assists… Dished out five helpers in a pair of contests at Wofford (Jan. 8) & UNCG (Feb. 8)… Buried 27 threes… Recorded 17 steals and three blocks… Totaled a season-best 34 minutes in the contest at VMI (Jan. 15)…

It's going to have to be that way by default because most of the parts seem to be coming from the used car lot.JoeyBagODonuts1 wrote: ↑Fri May 23, 2025 5:49 am This is where good coaching comes in: building a team that is greater than the sum of its parts.
Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
Not impressed. Another guy from a bad team (Western Carolina was 8-22) that can't shoot (33.3%, 28.1% from 3).HUSID74 wrote: ↑Fri May 23, 2025 9:10 am Not bad numbers

"Buried 27 3s" ... and bricked 69 of them.
The 14 vs. Furman were in a 90-61 loss and the 13 vs. Florida State were in a 91-57 loss, so how many of those were in garbage time or when the defense didn't really care because they were up huge?

Unfortunately, I have to agree with Wags. This will be a rebuilding year, but with NIL and the transfer portal do teams rebuild anymore? Seems like they just patch things up on the fly.

Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
If they wanted to sign an upperclassman guard with only 1 year of D1 experience who wasn't a good shooter, Amiri Stewart of Sacred Heart was available. 6'3, only 29% from 3, but averaged 12.5 pts, 4.8 reb, 2.8 ast, 1.7 stls and at least shot 44% from the field. But he signed with Campbell yesterday.
So again, as we've said many times this offseason, when even the traditional also-rans of this conference are signing players with significantly better resumes than the guys we've signed, it doesn't exactly inspire much confidence or excitement for the upcoming season

This is shaping out to be even more underwhelming than I had thought. And that was a VERY low bar. This has all the makings of a very ugly season and very likely speedy is looking for work at or before seasons end. This has run its course and it has crashed and burned miserably
Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
Not impressed at all with these two recent signings. There’s nothing impressive about either one of these guys. Remember it was only a few years ago when we won in 2020 and were at least competitive years after that (should’ve made it to the dance at least a couple times after and before 2020 with our roster), but now it’s not looking good at all.
Like other members have said, even Campbell is signing guys better than we are and that’s Campbell. Hell, Campbell fired their coach and he did alright for them so it shows the lower programs in the CAA are more serious than we are.
This is SCARY AND SAD

If it ultimately works out, and whatever roster they have truly becomes a scrappy, hard-working, greater-than-the-sum-of-the-parts team under the staff's leadership. And if they're picked in the bottom four and end up in the top four, it'll be one of the most surprising and fun Hofstra seasons ever, and one of the easiest Hofstra teams to root for (although, we root for all of them). I truly hope that happens, come November to March.
But as we sit here in late May, just before Memorial Day weekend, with the roster they're putting together as of today, it's very difficult to see that coming to fruition. We can see what happens, but the program seems really hampered by a lack of NIL money (unfortunately) the collective roster talent right now (based on most of the resumes) just doesn't seem to be there.

Wags-you’re right. But even then, why should we be happy being in the top four. That doesn’t do anything for us. It’s time to dance. It’s only about dancing
Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
I'm not suggesting that's the ultimate goal, but it's where they routinely were. The top four gives them a realistic chance to win the CAA tournament (although we've seen 7-seeded Stony Brook and 12th-seeded Delaware on the men's side come very close and 9th-seeded William & Mary win it on the women's side the last couple of years). That's always the first goal for the regular season. And realistically, if they're picked that low in the preseason, top-four would be amazing.
Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
Holding out hope on last signing. I’m not nearly as negative as others with the last two - I actually think the Iona kid could work out - but - with potentially limited NIL funds - hoping we load the boat for whoever this next kid is.

So have we officially added the above mentioned 2 players ?
Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
So today is the NCAA MLAX championship game between Cornell and Maryland (no surprises there). I was checking out the rosters and saw a link on the Terrapins' pages to "opendorse." Ever hear of it? It's an NIL platform that MD signed up with nearly three years ago:

https://opendorse.com/
In many ways it's pathetic to see athletes offering "shoutouts" or whatever they can for $10 a pop, but that's the world we live in today.

Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
Let's face it. There is no way for Hofstra to be competitive in D1 sports in the current environment. The administration has no appetite to pay players, and there are not enough benefactors willing to donate at levels that would move the needle. I find the annual scramble to fill a roster full of mercenaries to be distasteful. Mid majors have been sacrificed at the altar of the big boys. Unless a program has multiple alumni who are very, very wealthy and are inclined to subsidize this nonsense every spring, they have no shot. Even if a team manages to find lightning in a bottle, it will only last for one season, as the sharks at larger programs smell blood. I think we are eventually headed for D2 or 3...at least we can get behind actual students who want to be here. The way things are now sucks, and there doesn't appear to be a way forward.

HU will not be the only college in this challenging position. Maybe the NCAA will have another split to form what was the 1AA spot for football that will extend to other sports. This seems to be the only solution I can see for these colleges in the future is to separate the high NIL giving programs into a 1A division. I hope the 1AA colleges are smart about being regional to limit travel over multiple time zones.

Amen have said this in a prior post but thanks for bringing this concept back. What worked for football can work for basketball but that would eliminate the big upsets in the NCAA tourney. The Shadow wrote: ↑Tue May 27, 2025 8:20 am HU will not be the only college in this challenging position. Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
But here is something to consider with Rick Coles salary, probably near 600,000 now and the same thing with speedy will probably be making close to 600,000 this year due to increases in salary each year in the contract. How does the school justify the salaries when you are being dropped from D1 or worse what happens if the school drops a D2 or D3
There is no way the board of the trustees would allow this kind of salaries for what the program represents
