Re: Next Year's Team

It's a brand new variable in this equation and it's hard to argue with money as a twenty-something. I hope I'm wrong and/or that we're doing what we need to do to keep him-- both emotionally (seems taken care of) and financially . "and financially" - I'm still not used to this. Makes it s...

Re: Next Year's Team

Some kids have already announced that they are entering the Portal. Williams from Drexel has already announced. Yup, and 3 W&M and 3 Hampton players. But it'll all start being official in three days. W&M and Hampton have made coaching changes as well, so would expect tremendous turnover on ...

Re: Next Year's Team

I don't like that you can apparently transfer within your conference...i.e. Policelli going from SB to Charleston. Can really make an even bigger mess. Until it may work to our benefit. Then you'd love it! Maybe HU can lure their own Policelli. Funny how things work out, that after he transferred, ...

Re: NIT????

Do any of us think we have a chance of stealing an NIT bid? Does our win over Rutgers last year carry any weight? Will all mids be marginalized with the new selection criteria? It "shouldn't" (in quotes because we know how they do things) carry any weight. Past seasons should not have any...

Re: Women's basketball 2023-24

W&M is not a good team only the top 3 teams in The CAA are decent I don't really follow the women with Hofstra or in the CAA, so you would know better than me. But there isn't a big difference between W&M (11-6 in the CAA if you don't count the forfeit win over Northeastern) and Hofstra (3-...

Re: Next Year's Team

Wags, Please correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the transfer portal begin Monday, March 18th? I guess we'll know soon. Wags, also, thanks so much for all your articles and coverage of HU basketball this past season. My family always enjoys reading your well written articles. That's correct, and a...

Re: Next Year's Team

And then the elephant in the room is Dubar...he stays and we're looking pretty good with a few additions, he leaves and there's lots of work to do! Another reason they should have found ways to combat how Stony Brook was taking him out of the game in the semis and find him more shots. I hope Dubar ...

Re: NCAAT 2024 Thread

Wags: I'm sure you will be rooting for them. :) You bet! There will be Seahawks in the NCAAT after all, even if it's not UNCW. At least if I can't root for my alma mater, I can still root for my namesake in the NCAAT. This was fun to do - I once wrote about a Hofstra home win over Wagner, using onl...

Re: CAAT Tuesday, March 12 - Championship Game

Our problem is depth Every year we say at the beginning of the year how deep the team is only to later be depleted by injury or players not living up to their hype C of C keeps bringing players off the bench that contribute and wears other teams down We need to take a page from their blueprint Idea...

Re: CAAT Tuesday, March 12 - Championship Game

We need to improve our rebounding...seems we're outrebounding by every team we play...Speedy needs to construct a roster with some depth and more toughness, a team that can WIN the damned CAA championship...right now we're short on the right pieces EVERYWHERE. We hopefully return Carlos, Plotnikov ...

Re: CAAT Tuesday, March 12 - Championship Game

We're in about the same boat...we will need to completely re-tool our team with the departures of Thomas, Washington, Fritz and the expected departure of Dubar...like to see a bit of a change from Guard U as we've seen where that has gotten us over the past three years. Guard U. also (mainly) won f...

Re: CAAT Tuesday, March 12 - Championship Game

Or not. Their six best players are graduate students and have played their last games for SBU. Right. However, playing for a coach that just took a 7 seed in its second year in the conference to within a couple of plays of beating the repeat champion and current standard bearer for the league could...

Re: CAAT Monday, March 11 - Semifinals

I didn't see this game but after looking at the stats and listening to Speedy how does Speedy say that Dubar had a bad game. Everybody has a bad game but it came at an inopportune time per Speedy. Was it a "BAD GAME" because he only scored 5 points or was it a bad game because he couldn't...

Re: CAAT Tuesday, March 12 - Championship Game

Charleston went up 66-56 with 8:57 left and blew it. Charleston won 82-79 in overtime. Tyler Stephenson-Moore fouled out with 3.5 seconds left in overtime and got 6 minutes off out of 175. He scored 26, and his 7 threes were 1 short of the CAA Tournament record. Reyne Smith led Charleston with 23 p...

Re: CAAT Monday, March 11 - Semifinals

Good points, 86. A productive center would help immeasurably. I'll say this in Dubar's defense: without him, we may not have made it out of the quarterfinal round this year. His upside is tantalizingly great, but he is sooooo inconsistent I don't think it's him, it's his usage. Stony Brook made it ...

Re: CAAT Monday, March 11 - Semifinals

So because I'm a glutton for punishment I went back through the box scores of Hofstras recent CAA tourney failures today, and this is what stands out to me: - '24 Stony: Thomas takes 27 of 57 shots (Dubar 6). Outrebounded by 12. - '23 Uncw: Estrada takes 20 of 58 shots (Dubar 6). Outrebounded by 12...

Re: CAAT Monday, March 11 - Semifinals

Hate to blame Thomas for this because he was otherwise 6/6 at the line, and he had a bad ankle at the time, but that missed FT at 61-56 with :15.5 left. It turned out that Stony Brook likewise missed 1 of 2 after that, and instead of Hofstra ball and game over, down 63-59, with about :05 left, it co...
