Great essay by former Offensive Coordinator Manny Matsakis on the history of Hofstra Football and the case for starting the program up again. https://gridironaficionado.com/essays/what-hofstra-closed?fbclid=IwdGRzaAVAbh9jbGNrBUBuFmV4dG4DYWVtAjExAHBkb2YFc3J0YwZhcHBfaWQMMzUwNjg1NTMxNzI4AAEeRi3_B3v_Qqk...

I can picture the conversation at the other schools competing in our tournament:

"We're competing in the Island Invitational"

"What Island? Bermuda? Bahamas? Hawaii?"

"No. Long Island"

"Oh"

It is mentioned at the bottom of this article

Vermont basketball roster for 2026-27 season

Nov. 27, 28, 29: at Hofstra for multi-team tournament

I figure the southern schools would hit Northeastern and Fairfield in one trip up north, HU and SBU in another, and Monmouth and Drexel in another (not saying they make 3 trips up north, but they would play 2 teams in a single trip)

What kind of a meet-up was this where Stu went home shirtless???

The Big Ten is currently weighing a league-wide ban on scheduling Texas Tech in any sport because of this decision to allow him to play.

Hali to the Chiefs!

Congratulations to your grandson and to the Chiefs! Good luck to them as they play in an all native American LI final (Massapequas vs Sachem) in a sport brought to us by native Americans.

Although he was apparently appointed 2 years ago, I just found out that Seth Tierney is the head coach of the US National Lacrosse Team which will be competing in the 2027 World Championships in Tokyo. He succeeded John Danowski in that role. (My money will be on the rest of the field)

Season starts in the fall and ends in the spring. "Teams will be allowed to play 18 matches from late August until the Saturday before Thanksgiving and up to 10 matches from mid-February until the start of the NCAA Tournament. Specific dates for the postseason will be determined later." ht...

The NCAA just announced that the DI Men's soccer season will be split between the fall and the spring starting in 2027-28, with up to 18 matches in the fall and up to 10 matches in the spring. This would limit the ability of lacrosse and soccer to share a stadium.

Sorry Stu, but living out of state now assume I am a No unless I respond otherwise. I do hope to get to one someday as they sound like a great way to further build on the relationships started on this board, while also providing the opportunity to chat with the oft-elusive athletic department staff....

Could they split basketball like they did football, into I-A (BCS) and I-AA (FCS)?

If I figure it right, all teams that were 13 seeds (like Hofstra) would now be 14 seeds under the new format, playing a 3 seed instead of a 4 seed

Nothing against Mike.DePaoli, but with his experience Tom Parrotta should have been the Associate Head Coach of this team. Wish him much success at QU.

I assume you mean James Metzger, since Joe Margiotta passed away over 17 years ago.
Interesting to read about all of his contributions to the Long Island lacrosse community.

Thanks Polito and PbDutch for your insights. You made me feel better!

In 5 seasons as HC, Speedy has 4 20-win seasons, an NIT appearance (winning the 1st round game), a CAA regular season title, and a CAA Championship and NCAA tournament appearance, staying with Alabama for 35 minutes. Does he leave Hofstra for greener pastures, and if so, when? It was at about this p...
