Proposed Nassau Casino in Westbury

I was relieved that the chosen Nassau OTB mini casino with up to 1,000 video slots will not be in the immediate vicinity of Hofstra. It will be at the old Fortunoff building at the Source Mall, which isn't far from campus but is still four miles away and not within walking distance. A casino within walking distance of Hofstra like the Nassau Coliseum property would have been a disaster for the school.

This is where Rabinowitz is a genius, he sits on that gambling board. There is no way in hell he was going to allow a casino next to the university.

Good point Dutchalum. I am certainly no fan of Rabinowitz but do give him credit for fighting a casino in Hofstra's neighborhood.
