May not even wait until Junior year - looks like its going to be for open portal for all players each year. Every team is Kentucky model now.

Charleston and UNCW seem to be able to afford to keep their best players though. It's not even a level playing field within a conference as lousy as the CAA

Not all of them. Brzovic entered the portal too. And even if they do keep their best players, that doesn't mean they can't be beat until we see who brings in who from elsewhere. The gap is not that big. Charleston has kept the same core intact the past couple of years, stole one of Stony Brook's best players, and with all of that, still barely got by Stony Brook for the title with Stony Brook getting there as a seven seed. As much as Charleston has been the standard the past two years, the POY the past three years ended up in Hempstead after transferring there. And now Brzovic leaving. So, yeah, Charleston, UNCW, and anyone else who can keep their best players will have an edge in this new world, but until we see how final roster shake out before the beginning of each season, we don't know if that will keep those teams on top.

Well I spoke too soon... Brzovic is in the portal! Makes me feel much better. If we're sinking they better go down with us! Now we just need Louisville to hire Kelsey

Money rules. It’s over for mid and low major division 1 basketball schools.

Not sure that it matters but Myles Wilmoth is looking for greener pastures too.

Wilmouth should forfeit his scholarship money. Appalling. Will Hofstra be able to field a team next year?

I know he meant it and I wish him a bunch of success at his next stop, and I don't begrudge any college athlete getting whatever they can -- everyone has different financial situations -- but there's something that rings a little hollow about how "amazing" it was at Hofstra followed by how "elated" he his to join the portal all in the same breath.

It's a choice. Boo Buie could have gone to a number of other places but he wanted to help build and lead something at Northwestern and only play there, and he did. The whole "family" thing has to be taken with a grain of salt when numerous guys can easily bolt (whether for NIL money, greater exposure, whatever the reason).

A silver lining in this new world is that the CAA finals have not been quite as chalky as they used to be, so there may be more opportunity there than before.

2022: A 5 seed (not Charleston or UNCW) won the championship
2023: A 4 seed led before Charleston needed a late push to win by 5
2023: A 7 seed took Charleston to OT before losing at the very end by 3

When the NCAA opened the portal and allowed players to transfer without sitting out a year, loyalty went out the window. NIL only gave players another reason for leaving. So why have any rules at all re scholarships and academic eligibility? It is clearer more than ever that many, if not most, players don't care about getting an education if they can get paid instead.

soon if not already, the NCAA will be obsolete
The P5 schools can just break away and form their own organization
What will the NCAA do?
It’s all about money and nothing else
The big schools have the money
The NCAA is looking to get their fair cut
But it’s the schools that have the power
They can make their own deal with the TV networks
