Duke walloped JMU in the round of 32, but stings a bit knowing that was a team Hofstra was essentially as good as or better than every year since 2013 in the CAA, and yet they won 32 games and an NCAA tournament game this year.

Watching NC State vs. Marquette. Two former CAA coaches going at it: Kevin Keatts (UNCW) vs. Shaka Smart (VCU). Not sure if they coached in the CAA at the same time. I believe Smart left before Keatts joined.

CBS had a nice interview with Keatts and his star big man, DJ Burns, the other night.

Funny how things work out, two years in a row Charleston got screwed and wound up matched up with an eventual Final Four team in the 1st round

And three of the seven times they have been in the NCAAT.

Smart's last year at VCU was Keatt's first year at UNCW (2014-15).

That's definitely one for Keatts to hold over Smart, who was considered to have the better team on Friday.

Will it work out that Keatts' team has the chance to do the unthinkable like Valvano's 1983 team did against Phi Slamma Jamma?

The Final Four includes:

A former two-time CAA COY
A former Hofstra two-time CAA POY
A starting guard from Mineola

The first and third ones could potentially oppose the second in the national championship game.

Give Keatts a lot of credit beating Duke and being down by 6 at the half. The 2nd half was all NC State and Duke had NO answer for Burns that 6'9 beast. For a guy who looked nonathletic and overweight Duke couldn't stop him. He scored at will(29) and schooled Filipowski and company. Very impressive win for NC State Valvano would be proud.

The more impressive win was beating Marquette, which is a much better team than Duke (they were a legit national championship contender all season), and NC State handled them pretty easily for most of the game.

But against Duke, it was interesting: NC State had its worst-shooting half of the season in the first half and its best-shooting half of the season in the second half.

Seeing what he did in warmups before some Hofstra home games, Thomas could probably could have done pretty well in the slam dunk contest too.

And probably at least a couple of mentions about Hofstra in relation to Estrada on Saturday night.

As well as McGlothan, last night's slam dunk champ.

Branden Carlson, on the West team, is also a very good big.

Here's the box score from the NABC all-star game. Tyler played 17+ minutes, but scored only 5 points:

He, of course, took as many 3s as anyone in the game (9) and only made one. Much better showing during the 3-point shootout the night before.

A few other random thoughts:

Tominaga (when asked) said he would make five 3s during the game but only attempted four (making one). Went 3/3 from 2.

The West had a player named East.

East head coach, Oakland's Greg Kampe, was interviewed during the game by commentator Chris Walker, who told Walker about Oakland, "You guys ruined my bracket. I had Kentucky winning it all," to which Kampe replied, "I had Kentucky winning it all too."

It amazes me how many fans spend as much as they do on the Final Four (even for terrible seats) yet don't attend a FREE all-star game and the FREE team practices with open, first-come, first-serve seating, the day before the Final Four.

East: 21/44 from 2, 10/51 from 3
West: 27/46 from 2, 8/33 from 3

Steph Curry and analytics have ruined the game.
