2023-24 Bracketology

Post by Wags »

Happy & healthy 2024 everyone! Also, happy 24th anniversary of The Mack, which opened with a Speedy-led win on 1/2/00.

Now that we're into 2024, Lunardi has started talking Bracketology for this season. Interesting that he has Drexel as the CAA AQ (and only as a 15 seed);

At 1-0 with their blowout win over Hampton yesterday Drexel is currently in sole possession of 1st, simple as that for Lunardi. Hofstra was in there for a week as a 14 in early Dec, but it's been UNCW as a 13 for most of the non conference.

It is a little surprising Drexel couldn't do any better than a 15 even with their win over Villanova. I think 13/14 would be our range (not that we should be considered the favorite at this point).

Ranking the top team in each conference by their NET, 11 teams would be worse than us, which would make us the bottom 14 seed (with the First Four there are six 16 seeds). 6 teams would be worse than Drexel, which would make them the bottom 15 seed. Presumably there would be upsets in other conferences. For example, the America East and Atlantic Sun have one team with a better NET than Drexel, so anybody else winning those tournaments would move Drexel up within the 15 seeds or to a 14 seed. They are 7-6 against Division I. If they go 14-4 in the CAA and 3-0 in the CAA Tournament, they will be 23-10 against Division I on Selection Sunday with a weak schedule. They are 1-1 vs. Quadrant 1, and have no games vs. Quadrant 2. The current NETs for the CAA would give them no Quadrant 1 games, and three Quadrant 2 games. If they do win the CAA Tournament, they have to hope the Selection Committee is impressed by their win over Villanova.
