ESPN still giving us a high percentage of victory, 77.3 percent, yet they have us as 1.5 point favs....I think that is fair only due to our homecourt advantage.

Reason #10,000 why the CAA is a garbage conference, how is Stony Brook Northeastern your national TV game on opening night when you have both Charleston Hofstra and UNCW Drexel on the schedule?!

1 - Put your best matchups on TV this shouldnt be that hard.
This is league isn't good or deep enough to afford to do otherwise
2 - In a league of this stature getting national TV games should be reward for being good. Don't buy that every team should get national TV spots equally
3. Please don't tell me Stony Brook Northeastern is drawing the NY and Boston media markets. Those schools have less fans than we do, not that we exactly have a robust fan base anymore either

Agree with you, DutchPride. The better games should be featured. However, the CAA TV schedule is balanced to give all schools a shot at exposure. Also, SBU and I think Monmouth have deals with SNY to carry many of their games. That's why we're on MSG.

https://gohofstra.com/news/2024/1/2/men ... ifter.aspx is our preview titled "CofC Game Day 123123
Hofstra Hosts Charleston In CAA Lid-Lifter."

https://s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/side ... game14.pdf is our Game Notes.

https://defiantlydutch.blogspot.com/202 ... fstra.html is Jerry Beach's "I'll Be Quirky: Charleston at Hofstra." Thomas made 3 of his last 19 twos. Dubar reached 1,007 career points, and has 970 points for us. We attempted 25 fewer free throws than St. John's, which was our worst different since we attempted 27 fewer in a 101-65 loss at Kansas on November 13, 2009. That was 466 games before the St. John's game. KenPom expects us to win 79-74.

https://cofcsports.com/sports/mens-bask ... individual has Charleston's statistics.

https://cofcsports.com/news/2024/1/3/me ... fstra.aspx is Charleston's preview titled "Men's Basketball Opens CAA Play at Hofstra."

https://s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/side ... ofstra.pdf is Charleston's Game Notes.

https://stats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?id=484931 will have statistics.

We end at Charleston, and the last day will have CBS Sports Network pick a game based on the standings, so we could be on national TV against them. Excluding that, the CAA has 23 games on CBS Sports Network including Hampton's blowout loss at Drexel on Monday. Charleston, Delaware, Drexel, Elon, Us, UNCW, and Towson are on four times. North Carolina A&T, Northeastern, Stony Brook, and William & Mary are on three times. Campbell, Hampton, and Monmouth are on two times. Northeastern has three of their first four games on and no national TV after that.

One thing I did not type earlier from Jerry Beach is that Washington was scoreless in two of his last four games, which is bad for the fourth leading scorer on a team that does not use their bench much.

The good news is that Fritz is starting. Charleston is starting Reyne Smith (guard, 11.9 points, started 6 of their previous 13 games), CJ Fulton (guard, 3.4 points), Frankie Pollicelli (forward, 8.4 points), Ante Brzovic (forward, 10.4 points), and Ben Burnham (forward, 13.7 points). Kobe Rodgers, who started 9 games including the previous game, is not starting. Fulton's combination of 3.4 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 4.0 assists reminds me of Greg Johnson. I checked Johnson's statistics, and as a junior in 2007-2008 he had 3.7 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 3.6 assists.

Absolute miracle they're not down like 20, one of the most infuriating halves I've seen this team play in quite some time. Just atrocious shot selection, if Tyler is gonna play like that Speedy should put him on the bench for a couple mins. At least they picked up the defensive intensity after the first couple minutes. But coming out that flat for this big a game very concerning

Down 34-32 at halftime not a bad place at all to be in considering the 16-4 start. I had visions of a bad 30+ point loss four minutes in. But they showed they are on Charleston's level over the final 16 minutes of the half. Brzovic had four early points during the 16-4 start and then nothing. Smith had five straight to get it to 34-27 but was scoreless before that and none since, so they've done a good job of containing both of them and that's the biggest reason they're within just two right now.

Charleston used 11 players, and 8 played at least 9 minutes. Their leading scorer has 7.

Thomas 1/8 from 3, 4/6 from 2. Would still like to see him recognize when that's not falling and go to what is. Of course, sometimes it's simply taking what the defense is giving, but there are ways around that for him and the team working with him offensively.

Now that one, to make it 41-37, was a good look and sure enough, he knocks it down. Able to catch and shoot and step in. Step-in 3s are usually the best to take. And he was open, not forced like the one had blocked or the one he airballed in the first half.

STOP CHUCKING THREES!! How many low percentage bricks does this team have to chuck up before it realizes that's not the way to win

Charleston is just asking to be beaten off the dribble and they won't take advantage. I don't get it

Also, Charleston spreads the shots around - five guys with 7-10 FGA
Hofstra, Thomas/Dubar/Carlos: 52 of their 58 shots

Hofstra gave this game away. This team continues to make the same sloppy mistakes on the offensive end and not correct them. First real crisis point of Speedy's coaching career. He better have better answers than "just missed shots we normally make we'll be fine" tonight

Good points being made but I'll throw this in the mix. We're in the bonus with about 8 minutes or so in this game. Why weren't we taking advantage of this and reaping the benefits from the FT line. The only guy that doesn't shoot well is Fritz everyone else is solid from the foul line. The last 5 minutes how could our game plan be to keep shooting three's and not driving the ball. We had a 4 or 5 point lead and might have been able to add to that from the foul line. Just poor game plan down the stretch. Like has been said Washington all of a sudden has lost his game and they put Farmer in who clearly could not keep up defensively in this game.

Kudos to Dubar who not only had a double/double but who showed up on D and had a few blocks. He played with a tremendous amount of intensity. He's a born again player this year but like has been said no contribution from the bench and Washington 2 points. Fritz I think the jury is out on whether he can play at CAA level?? I do have to give him credit though for grabbing 10 boards.
