2023-24 CAA MBB Awards
2023-24 CAA MBB Awards
Started a new thread for this since I expect more awards to be coming for Thomas and perhaps other HU players this season.
This one was a given after what he did last week, but now it's official:
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tyler Thomas, Hofstra
Graduate Student | Guard | New Haven, Conn. / Amity Regional
Thomas had a remarkable week for Hofstra in leading the Pride to the Gulf Coast Showcase title. The guard from Connecticut averaged 30.3 points per game in a 3-0 trip to Florida with 21 against Buffalo, 30 vs. Wright State, and 40 in an overtime triumph over High Point for the tournament championship. Thomas shot 50% (30-for-60) from the floor and 45% (13-for-29) from three while playing 115 of a possible 125 minutes. His 40 points against High Point are the most in the nation this season.

Nice pickup on both accounts think that this is just the beginning.
Re: 2023-24 CAA MBB Awards
Not an award but listing here because it's additional good recognition for Tyler, who barely made the cut here:

Nice recognition for Tyler and Hofstra!
Re: 2023-24 CAA MBB Awards
I though the variety of winners for both of these awards over the first six weeks was interesting and underscores that maybe at least in terms of players if not teams, the league may be a littler deeper than some believe rather than the same names being repeat winners to this point.
Six different schools have had a Player of the Week and the five different schools have a Rookie of the Week thus far:
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Nov. 13: Xander Rice, Monmouth
Nov. 20: TK Simpkins, Elon
Nov. 27: Tyler Thomas, Hofstra
Dec. 4: Trazarien White, UNCW
Dec. 11: Christian May, Towson; Jalun Trent, Delaware
Dec. 18: Jyáre Davis, Delaware
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Nov. 13: Tyler Tejada, Towson
Nov. 20: Nick Dorn, Elon
Nov. 27: Abdi Bashir Jr., Monmouth
Dec. 4: Jordan Crawford, Charleston
Dec. 11: Jared Frey, Stony Brook
Dec. 18: James Scott, Charleston

Thanks for posting this, Wags. No repeat winners yet.
Re: 2023-24 CAA MBB Awards
Finally had one for ROY:
Dec. 26: James Scott, Charleston
But another different one for POW - still no repeats there yet. Need to get Thomas to repeat that at least a couple times and need to get Dubar on there.
Re: 2023-24 CAA MBB Awards
When is the last time we had a Rookie of the Week?
Re: 2023-24 CAA MBB Awards
And then walked and is now scoring 15+ per game at UAlbany.
Re: 2023-24 CAA MBB Awards
Forgot about him, shame he left.
Re: 2023-24 CAA MBB Awards
Not sure if this really belongs here but figured it didn't need a new thread for it:

Among the 40 players on the Watch List are:

Re: 2023-24 CAA MBB Awards
The more I see D-Stone the more I'd like to get him in the conversation because he's not just a one way player. Without him we would be doomed considering his D and rebounding. I would like him to improve his 3 point shooting a bit but man has he elevated his game from last year. He's a born again basketball player and we needed him to get to the next level.
Re: 2023-24 CAA MBB Awards
Dubar shoots threes .379. It's down from .404 last season, but .379 is still good. He avoids mistakes with only 1.3 turnovers and 1.7 fouls. From 2010-2011 to 2022-2023, only two players averaged at least 18.3 points, at least 6.9 rebounds, 1.3 or fewer turnovers, and 1.7 or fewer fouls.
https://www.espn.com/mens-college-baske ... -24-season says about Northwestern State's Cliff Davis "All of which makes the season Davis is having even more remarkable. The junior is shooting 43% from outside and officially ranks second to Hofstra's Tyler Thomas in D-I, in terms of 3s made per game."

Re: 2023-24 CAA MBB Awards
Although Davis has had a few bad games from 3, those are 1/6, 1/7, 0/5, etc. He doesn't have the green light to go 3/15 or 4/15 from 3 (like Thomas' last two games). When he does get that many 3-pt. FGA, it's games when he's making a good amount (a couple of 7/14 games from 3). That's how you let a good 3-point shooter help you on good days and avoid hurting you on bad ones.EvanJ wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2024 5:01 pm https://www.espn.com/mens-college-baske ... -24-season says about Northwestern State's Cliff Davis "All of which makes the season Davis is having even more remarkable. Congratulations to Dstone on his great week! Just imagine if we won all three!!!
He has become THE GO TO GUY on this team...
We should start a GO FUND ME page to get him enough NIL money to stay next year!
