MBB Game 03 @ GWU, Nov 14 (Tue), 7 PM

Post by Jojogunne »

Hofstra travels to Washington, DC, next week to take on the newly renamed George Washington University Revolutionaries.

GWU was ranked ninth in the A10 Men's Basketball Poll:

GWU started the season by winning big Monday night over the Stonehill Skyhawks, who moved up to Division I last year. Today the Revolutionaries host William & Mary at 1 pm on ESPN+.

ESPN+ will also carry our game Tuesday at 7 pm.

GW just dropped 95 in a win over William and Mary today (in a game that seemed to be more lopsided than the final score would indicate). And they return James Bishop, who you may remember put up 44 on us at the Mack last year. This will not be an easy game, and Hofstra will likely need to get back into the 80s offensively to win

Saw some of the team last night at the soccer game and said come on fellas, clean some stuff up and settle in, you got this, go beat GW!

I see them as a mid pack A10 right now - a challenge but winnable - let’s see how HU handles their first road test.

According to the ESPN match predictor, HU has a 69.2% chance of winning. According to Massey Ratings, HU has a 57% chance of winning. Massey predicts a HU 76-GWU 73 final score.

ESPN said we had a 70% chance of beating Princeton and look how that turned out.

Newsday shows us as a 1 point favorite on the road. Little margin for error in this game which should be close.

Thank you both for posting because it made me research and find that it was the fourth time from 2010-2011 to now that a losing team made at least 18 threes and did not miss a free throw. Furthermore, two of the previous three were non-Division I teams losing to Division I teams, and the only previous Division I team to do that from 2010-2011 to now was Virginia Military Institute (VMI) in a 92-82 loss at Kentucky on November 18, 2018.

http://defiantlydutch.blogspot.com/2023 ... eorge.html is Jerry Beach's "I'll Be Quirky: Hofstra at George Washington."

https://gwsports.com/sidearmstats/mbball/summary will have statistics. Unfortunately, it will not be from StatBroadcast, which provides the best statistics, and is used by all CAA teams.

Don't know how to respond to Jerry Beach, but didn't Fran McCafferty get tossed out of the game at The Mack when he was coaching Siena? My recollection is that a few minutes later his wife who sitting behind the Siena bench was tossed as well. Ejecting the guy's wife as well was special. lol.

Let's go HU, want to see some messiness cleaned up and gaps tightened up tonight - would be great to see them respond well to the L with a strong showing on the road tonight.

The only thing worse than this start is the audio mix on GWs broadcast

Not liking what I'm seeing here being out hustled and Carlos not only missing his shots but turning the ball over. Thomas keeping us in the game down 20-13.

Carlos awful in this half being shown up by the freshman who plays with a lot of swagger. They're killing us drivingvtobthe basket getting easy baskets. We were getting stops when Sundayvwad in the game. Down 33-25. with 1:48 left.

Yeah understand Speedy trying different things early in the season but that small lineup could not hold up defensively at all.

Very concerned with Hofstra's stagnant offense. The lack of off ball movement and 1 on 1 play is glaring, and the shot selection is incredibly poor (even on some of Thomas and Robinsons makes)

It was obvious that Sunday being under the hoop caused shooters to alter shots at the last minute. He must be pretty imposing when hes down low.

Once again, it looks like everyone is faster than our guys?????

I like KJR, but no reason to take a 30 footer when no one is near you  at least move up to the 3pt line!

Down by 6 at the half getting killed in the paint. We r going with 2 PG for quite a few minutes with Robinson playing a lot in the first half and scoring but taking too many shots. TT has 12 points. Plotnikov getting a lot of minutes but not shooting D ok. I thought we played much better with Sunday clogging up down low. He has a big wing span.
