Women's Soccer 2023

Post by EvanJ »

Hofstra opened at UAlbany. I don't pay for Flo until November, so I can't watch home games, but this is on ESPN Plus. The season got off to a great start as Hofstra's Aimee Hodgson scored a penalty kick 49 seconds in. Hofstra leads 1-0 in the 20th minute.

Edit: Albany scored at 49:32 and 70:18 to win 2-1. Last season Hofstra won 3-0 hosting UAlbany, so today's margin was 4 goals worse.

We played without our starting goalie Kuzmich who was out with an injury. IDK how much of an impact this had on the final score.?

The goal was in the 88th minute. The highlights jump from scene to scene, so you can see the ball in the goal, but you can't see the shot. Rutgers had poll votes. Rutgers went to the NCAA Tournament last season and lost hosting Brown in the First Round. We ended their 33 game winning streak in August. Rutgers entered 4-0 against us. Before going to Albany, did anybody think we could lose at Albany and win at Rutgers? It was a bad sports weekend for me, with that being an exception.

We were third in the CAA Preseason Poll.

Very impressive win and encouraging after a disappointing start to the season on Thursday. Here is the winning goal https://x.com/hofstrawsoc/status/169342 ... 22624?s=46

So we lose to Columbia on the road TODAY 3-0. We get outshot 19-5 6-3 on shots on goal. IDK anything about Columbia but I know Simon can't be happy with this result. It seems like we're lacking in offense on this squad in the early going anyway.

We can beat Rutgers, but not mid-majors. It was Columbia's first game of the season.

Ugh, very disappointing loss for this program - that's 2 years in a row if I'm not mistaken - went to the Columbia game last year I believe and they lost, looked awful doing it. Definitely trust in Simon, but this program seems to have slipped a tad... maybe just my narrow glimpse at it though, will yield to those more deeply tied in.

We have no score at the half against St Joes who haven't won a game yet this year. Let's hope we keep it that way we need scorers on this team. We had the bulk of the opportunities at least keeping the ball in their end.

We get our third win of the season 1-0 on a goal by Wiktoria Fronc assisted by Millie Davies and Mathilde Braithwaite. Sweet win for the women and Simon as they head into conference play against Campbell.

We beat Drexel 3-2 on two goals by Millie Davies and the third by Aimee Hodgson. A very competitive game and some nice saves by Kuzmich.

Last night we tie COC who came in with 1 win and 6 losses. This team seems to have a Jekyll and Hyde nature to them. This has to be a disappointing final for the coach and the team.

We beat UNCW today 2-1 as we score two goals in the second half one by Pearce and the other by Braithwaite. A nice come from behind victory on the road. We only have 3 SOG but get two of them to go in.

We lose last night to W&M 1-0 on a goal in the first half. Coach said we didn't play particularly well in the 1st half and allowed a goal from 25 feet out which wasn't a great shot. He was obviously disappointed and said that we dominated in the second half but just couldn't catch a break. We play NE on Sunday. Lets get back on the winning track on Sunday.

Nice comeback win after dropping a close one to W&M against N.E. TODAY 1-0. NE picked second in the pre-season poll as we were picked third. Dagny Run Petursdottir kicked out of the game after getting a red flag. A very chippy call after watching the replay. We had to play a player down for some tense minutes at the end holding on to a 1-0 lead. Goal by Fronc who hadn't scored in a while but such a good player. We had 5 shots on goal to there 1. Good chances for us to score in the second half but their goalie made some good saves.

It's a red card, not a red flag. It was a red card as a second yellow card, not a straight red card.

We're tied for second with Monmouth with 16 points, and Monmouth has played 1 fewer game. Towson leads with 19 points. Assuming the tiebreaker is head-to-head, Saturday's game hosting Monmouth means we control our own destiny to finish in the top two to get a CAA Tournament bye and Semifinal at home, albeit it will be very hard to win all four remaining CAA games to get the 1 or 2 seed without help.
