Will conference play has begun, and boy do we need pitching
In for conference games, we are one win and three losses
We have given up over an average of 13 runs a game
This could be a very long season after a very surprising season last year
One thing I noticed we played William and Mary today the final score was 13 to 1 but the game only lasted seven innings. Does anyone know if there was a mercy rule in baseball? I know when softball it’s eight runs after five innings was this a mercy rule or did the coaches decide to end the game after seven innings

Does this answer your question Stu?? Is there a mercy rule in college baseball?
The policy stipulates that a contest shall be stopped after seven innings if one team is ahead by at least 10 runs, in accordance with NCAA playing rules. The 10-run rule shall also be utilized for all non-conference competition with the consent of the coach of the non-conference opponent.Feb 15, 2023

I'm somewhat surprised that our pitching is so weak but nobody is posting about baseball so I'm not up to snuff re this team. We have oddly enough been following women's softball.

how bad is our pitching. In 4 conference games we have given up 53 runs. About 13 runs a game.

Obviously that's ridiculous they would have to score a ton of runs to win any games.

So it turns out that the rule was misinterpreted, and the game will continue with William and Mary leading13-1
The game will start 10:30 AM tomorrow, followed by the second game of the series

From what I know there is no run rule in College div1 baseball. In softball 8 runs after 5 innings

Nice 4-2 win at #24 West Virginia! WV had bases loaded in the 9th.

Just watched as well. Very impressed with the way this team plays. Very disciplined, hustles, plays the right way!
Our closer, Hanlon, has a very strange delivery but he throws 90 mph, is fiery and closed it out.
Great win away against the 24th ranked Mountaineers.

So much for us having no pitching and giving up 13 runs a game. Things will start turning around.
