Starting a thread for the 2023 National Invitational Tournament.

This page has all the details:

https://www.ncaa.com/news/basketball-me ... tournament

The first three rounds are played on college campuses. The final two will be in Las Vegas. All games will be shown on the ESPN platform.

A lot of good teams participated in 2022, with Xavier beating Texas A&M for the title. Towson and Iona lost their only games.

So where do you think we will be seeded?

I don't see us getting a home game. I do see us being sent to a Seton Hall or Rutgers. Maybe Providence. Would love a home game, but don't see it happening. Maybe the NIT would send Fordham to us because Rose Hill Arena has limited capacity if I recall.

Hofstra is currently 86 in the NET and 91 in Kenpom, and the NIT will likely wind up starting with teams in the 50s so would think next to no chance at a home game. Without the new autobid NIT structure im not sure if Hofstra would even be in NIT consideration.

Think we'll likely be a 7 or 8 seed, hopefully get a fun game at a big time Power 5 school. For this group I'd rather face a big school with more publicity than get a theoretically more winnable game

I think geography and cost still plays a factor in the NIT that's why I thought going to Providence, Rutgers or Seton Hall possible. These things are impossible to predict and the NIT will likely send us to New Mexico.

I'm all in on New Mexico! My buddy is a Lobo fan and we were just talking about this very possibility yesterday.

Unfortunately, now that the NCAA Owns the NIT they will load it up with mediocre P5 teams who will guarantee a decent gate for a home game...as usual, money talks!

ESPN says Providence is a lock for the NCAA, and Rutgers is on the bubble with a game against another bubble team in Michigan. Seton Hall is not good enough to be one of the top seeds. Rutgers is the most likely of the three. We could get sent to a team that is mad they did not get an at-large bid. North Carolina State is on the bubble. They hosted our last NIT game, which was in 2019, and we could get sent there again.

If TT or AE enter the portal can they still play in the NIT?

I would hope they wait to enter the portal until the season is over.

Here's another site with NIT predictions. It has us as a #7 seed:

Very sad that with a solid OOC, by the end of the season our SOS was 205 (per attached bracket table). Hate to beat a dead horse, but the CAA expansion has been an absolute disaster for hoops.

Any guesses on who Hofstra will play? When I saw Rutgers didn’t get in, I made the assumption that it could be Hofstra-Rutgers. I don’t see Hofstra getting a home game

Well, it won't be UNC. After missing out on the NCAAT, the Tar Heels announced that they would not accept an invitation to the NIT:

Seriously, the top 16 teams will be seeded, but the bottom 16 will be scheduled geographically, where possible. So we may wind up playing Rutgers or another mid-Atlantic or East Coast team.

Not only a 1 seed but a 2 seed playing on the road, and in the same part of the bracket.

Second time in the NIT @ Rutgers. Last time was 1999, when Speedy was a player.

Speedy missed that game with a thigh injury.

The rest of that part of the bracket:

4 Cincinnati vs. Virginia Tech
3 New Mexico vs. Utah Valley
2 Colorado vs. Seton Hall

Would love to see Hofstra vs. Colorado (where my nephew is a freshman).

Speedy didn't get to play in that game, he was injured. Sounds like it's time for some redemption!
