Hofstra vs. William & Mary, Sunday, March 4 at 12 Noon

Post by HUSID80 »

Ok so we open the CAA Touranament against William & Mary...they took care of Elon relatively easily this afternoon.

Think we should be favored by double digits but you have to PLAY THE GAME>

What do you all think?

I am going to say we need this to be a blowout. With 3 games in a row and us actually having a deep rotation we need to take advantage of that. Have our key guys play 30 minutes per game. Get the bench playing 50-60 minutes in this game. Help set us up to be rested for Monday.

Won't be a blowout if they shoot 44% from 3 like they did today. Hopefully that comes back to earth tomorrow.

If the usual trend continues, they should win this by 13+ like they did in Williamsburg. But as we saw with Monmouth yesterday, trends can often be broken in a tournament setting. Play our game and we'll be fine regardless of what W&M brings. Hofstra is simply a much better team but can't take anything for granted. With how focused HU has been over most of the 18 prior CAA games, especially the last 11, I don't think they will take it for granted at all. Just shoot well and play solid D and this should be a comfortable win.

Little napoleons have fielded some formidable teams in years past. I’ll be honest and can say with certainty I have no idea what kind of team they’ll show up with, but I hope we stomp the living crap out of them. Roll Pride.

It’s great having a President that supports athletics. Anyone know if Rabinowitz ever went to the tournaments?

Back stateside, just in time, let’s get it on!

Super to see from the prez, a fully engaged supportive Prez that actually “gets it” is exactly what this athletic dept needs. Not 100% she’s truly all in yet, small sample size, but liking what we’ve seen compared to the past. Definitely showing great signs so far!

Fully expect HU to TCB today. Business trip. Capture is not an option. Expectations have been validated with winning the regular season, having the POY AND the COY. The mission is simple and unwavering: win it all or bust. Zippo excuses.

And it begins today. R O L L P R I D E

http://defiantlydutch.blogspot.com/2023 ... -mary.html is Jerry Beach's "I'll Be Quirky: Hofstra vs. William & Mary (CAA Quarterfinals)." The 84-52 win hosting Northeastern was our eleventh unicorn score of the season, meaning the first time we won by that score, and that ties how many unicorn scores we had last season. Williams had 19 points in 19 minutes, which is the fewest minutes one of our players has scored at least 19 points against a Division I team in since Kenny Adeleke on December 31, 2003. Dubar had 23 points in 18 minutes against Old Westbury on December 22, 2022. Carlos became our first player to have at least 8 assists without scoring since Woody Souffrant on February 25, 2002 in our first season in the CAA. We went 8-0 in February, which was our first undefeated February since 2001 before our last NCAA Tournament appearance.

We are favored by 15 with an over/under that makes a score of 77-62. KenPom expects us to win 78-64 with an 89 percent chance of winning. KenPom lists Charleston above us in the standings.

https://www.flohoops.com/live/49165 will have video.

http://stats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?id=459216 will have statistics.

In something that has gone back-and-forth, the America East passed the CAA to drop the CAA to 26th of 32 in the Conference NET.

We could face the CAA's top three in attendance.

We lead 14-2 at the first timeout. W&M doubling Estrada, forcing him to pass to Carlos, who missed two shots, but just drained a three from the corner. Good start.

We're up 20-4 after 8 minutes. Playing excellent D. Carlos is not so much a lock-down defender, but someone who tips a lot of passes and grabs rebounds. Good balance on offense. Subs in the game now.

31-6 after 12 minutes. We're outrebounding W&M 2-to-1.

This is awesome. Maybe the biggest mismatch in tourney history.

What do you do second half… when do you start to sit your starters? Giving these guys a rest would pay HUGE dividends in the following games.
