We are starting our usual starters. Northeastern is starting Masai Troutman (guard, 6.2 ppg), Rashad King (guard, 2.9 ppg), Jahmyl Telfort (guard, 16.5 ppg), Alexander Nwagha (forward, 4.2 ppg), and Coleman Stucke (forward, 8.7 ppg).

Charleston beat Stony Brook 92-52. Charleston had 63 bench points, and I wish somebody kept track of that record. I also wonder if a team has ever gone into the last day with a chance at a 1 seed, won by at least 40, and not gotten a 1 seed.

For a team that often struggles to rebound, Hofstra has a 13-9 edge on the glass and five players with multiple boards. 20-15, Pride at the U8 (7:57).

We led by 34 and won 84-52. Thomas made 5 of 10 threes and scored 23, and had 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Williams scored 19 by shooting field goals 7-10 and free throws 5-8, and tied Boachie-Yiadom for the most rebounds on either team with 9. I am not checking, but I doubt we had many games where we had the top two rebounders. Estrada has 16 points and 5 assists, but shot 7-16 without making a three. Plotnikov shot 4-6 to score 9. Dubar had 7 points and 4 rebounds. Boachie-Yiadom scored 4 by shooting field goals 2-2 and free throws 0-2. Petey Galgano scored 4 points in 37 seconds without the ball going through the net by being goaltended on consecutive possessions. Washington scored 2 and made his only shot. Carlos did not score and shot 0-4, but his 8 assists were as many as the next two players on either team combined, and he avoided mistakes with 1 foul and 1 turnover. Boachie-Yiadom had 3 blocks, and Williams had 2. Barrouk, Aiden Best, Marshall, and Tomasco did not shoot. We used all thirteen players, but the bench still played only 51 minutes. Chase Cormier scored 12, and was Northeastern's only double-digit scorer. Alexander Nwagha had 2 points, 4 fouls, and led them with 7 rebounds. Jahmyl Telfort scored 9 by shooting 4-14 including threes 1-7, and did not attempt a free throw. He had 6 rebounds and 3 assists, and he was their only player with more than 1 assist.

We had amazing ratio of 18 assists to 3 turnovers. We had 9 fast break points and allowed none. We shot field goals .530, which was almost as good as free throws .538. Ten of the thirteen free throw attempts were by forwards, including eight by Williams.

In the Analyics tab, Williams led all players with efficiency of 25, game score of 19.6, and net points of 22.3. Thomas was second in all three.

https://gohofstra.com/sports/mens-baske ... core/12128 is the box score. The attendance of 3,616 was a little short of a sellout. We did not write a recap yet.

Jameer Nelson Jr. will pas Estrada in scoring if he scores more than 17, and tie Estrada if he scores 17. They will have the same amount of games. Cameron Holden needs 5 assists to finish with more than Carlos. The statistics update during the CAA Tournament and postseason, but awards are decided before the CAA Tournament.

Today's other CAA scores are Charleston's 92-52 win hosting Stony Brook, William & Mary's 74-62 win hosting Monmouth, and North Carolina A&T's 73-72 win hosting Hampton. North Carolina A&T blew a 14 point lead, and Hampton did not lead until overtime. Marcus Watson scored 20 and blocked Hampton's final shot. Hampton's Jordan Nesbitt shot 9-29 and scored 27. He had the most field goal attempts by a CAA player since Justin Wright-Foreman on March 11, 2019 in a 78-74 win over Delaware in the CAA Semifinals. Nesbitt became the fourteenth player and first CAA player from 2010-2011 to now to attempt at least 29 field goals and make 9 or fewer.

16-2 was tremendous, especially after starting 1-1.

Could have gone 13-5 with a loss at Charleston, a second loss to Towson and stumbling somewhere along the line over the last 16 (like at Stony Brook last week), but they never did. Towson was the preseason favorite and could go 11-7. Going 16-2 and winning this conference was fantastic and should not be undervalued because of the weakness of the league at the bottom.

And to get the 1 seed in the CAA for the third time in five years and for the fourth time in eight years, with one CAA tourney title and possibly a second this year, I'm not sure how you could ask a lot more of this program. Making the NCAA tournament is not easy. As Speedy said today, even if it's not the ultimate goal, winning the regular season title is more difficult than winning the CAA tournament. It's a testament to the program that HU has done that so frequently in the past several years.

Hofstra's average margin of victory in conference play was 17.8 ppg this regular season. Of their CAA wins, 13 were by at least 13 points, seven were by at least 20 points, and three were by at least 29 points.

I am with you on both of these things. But it's looking like UNCW's night so far. Seahawks up 32-18.

As I mentioned elsewhere though, let's not assume that it'll be Hofstra vs. Towson in the semis anyway. Drexel (which split two close games with Towson this year) could have something to say about that.

Hi, Evan. You continue to impress me, and I'm sure others here, with your mastery of historical MBB data. So I'd like to ask you two questions:

1. This season, Carlos had five games with no points and six games with 1, 2 or 3 points. But he also led the team with an average of 5 APG. How rare is that?

2. Today, Petey Galgano scored twice on consecutive possessions in the last two minutes of the game. However, both scores came on goaltending charges. How rare is something like that?

I wouldn't know where to begin to research the answers to these questions, but maybe you do.

Thanks very much.

Nice shots, Jon. I wonder if the CAA also had a trophy at the Charleston game?

I was asking Jaden Daly the same thing after the game today. I'm not sure how that works, if they give it it both teams or only the 1 seed in a case like that.

This looks like it's both, but hard to tell if this was a real pic today or something they put together:

Towson just beat UNCW so we get our wish. The score was 57-53 and UNCW had a sizable lead in this game.

Towson rallied for the win and the 3 seed! (And a suddenly hot Delaware wound up the 6). Everything broke Hofstras way.

Now can fully celebrate the 16-2 season, quality of the conference be damned. 16-2 and 11 straight is real impressive at any level.

Obviously crazy things can happen, but Hofstra should now be a heavy favorite to get to Tues night, where they'll be facing either whoever survives rd 3 of Charleston towson or a cinderella.

Again, gotta execute fingers crossed careful what we wish for, but truly couldnt have lined up better on paper.

25-7, Towson over the final 12:37... which is exactly why you want to avoid Towson and its defense in a single-elimination situation.

This is the 20th season of an 18-game men's CAA hoops schedule.

Hofstra & Charleston are the first teams in that time to go 16-2 in the same year.
