womens lax 2023

Post by stuball888 »

So we start off our season with a 14-6 victory over LIU.
Do we have a star in the making
Katie Kelly who is now a senior and had career stats of 7 goals and 3 assts in 3 years had 3 goals and 4 assts in the game alone.
Hope Katie can seize on this opportunity and turn in a steller senior year.

What kind of team is LIU? I'm imagining not that great losing by 8.

No but they are not horrible. Just not at the talent of a CAA team. They will compete in their conference and should be middle to top.

An impressive 11-8 road win today against #25 Vanderbilt. This team is better than I expected. While we dont have a superstar on the team the collective parts are better. We could be the second best team in the CAA this year.

So I look at the box score and see that Nikki Mennella from Smithtown whose sister also is on the team scores 5 goals and also had 2 assists. A really nice day for a freshman no?? So how good is this team? It's early so #25 ranking for Vanderbilt maybe not that accurate??

Yes but I am seeing some encouraging signs from this team
The D is solid
In the womens game if you givevup less than 10 goals a goid chance you will win your game
Its more offensive friendly than the men’s game

Very encouraging win over program we lost to last year. Especially encouraged by quick rise of freshman Nikki Mennella who already seems to have incredible chemistry with her older sister. Both Mennella sisters were coached at Smithtown West by former Hofstra wlax head coach Carrie Bodo.

Informative HP1 like the connection to the old head coach.

Same. Smithtown produces some great players so hopefully she can send us some more. Big game against Brown Tuesday at 2 to try and carry forward this momentum. We beat them handily last year but this is their first game so a complete unknown how they will look.

So we lose today to Brown by a score of 10 to 7
What’s curious is that Nikki Manella took half the the team shots. She took 14 shots and scored three goals.
After brown took a 4 to 1 lead one of their players receive the green card

This will let us to get back into the game and we took a 6 to 5 lead
Brown then went on to score 5 straight goals and put the game away

Beyond frustrating loss after such a great win on Saturday. Team was incredibly sloppy with many unforced errors and did not take
advantage on number of player up chances. Have to now that Brown had a good season going forward so that this loss doesn’t stick out as a bad one on resume and in meantime bounce back in a major way Saturday against Fairfield..

We lose 15-7 against Fairfield getting 6 of our 7 goals from the Mennella sisters. This is obviously a bad loss and this team seems to be heading in the wrong direction. For those who know the sport what is the take here??

When you rely on one or two players its easy for other teams to defend them with a double team or slide
When one player takes half the shots and only scores 3 goals, do the math . It is not efficent

Fairfield is better than in past and a potential top 20 team but still a terrible loss and very discouraging a week after such a great win. Jess Smith was way off her game in cage but loss clearly goes way beyond that. Play Marist next Wednesday, a team we should beat, and then have a very tough game against Army Saturday. Army just knocked off Rutgers, 10-5.

A bad loss today as we lose to Marist by score of 14 to 12 we out shot them but they did better on draw controls. Ithey were more accurate with the shots on goal

Today is a lowest point for wlax in recent memory. Starting goalie Jess Smith was also benched today as well. Season is quickly unraveling and is only March 1.

Not even the Mennella sisters can right this ship but they certainly are trying. Nikki with 6 goals and an assist.

Frustrating season went from bad toy worst today in a neat upset or Army today (14-11) with freshman phenom Nikki Mennella going down with what appeared to be bad knee injury in the fourth quarter. She was screaming in pain and they needed to bring out cart. I hope not a season-ending injury somehow, but it looked brutal live.

They will not release any information on her injury due to privacy of the student. The only thing that will be done is listing her either ready to play or not.
