Men's Lacrosse 2023

Post by Jojogunne »

Starting a new thread for a new season.

https://gohofstra.com/news/2023/1/31/me ... lades.aspx

I'm happy to particpiate in discussions about the game, but I won't hang around if this thread deteriorates into a litany of complaints about the program.

The scrimmages vs. Quinnipiac and UMass Lowell were encouraging. We outscored Quinnipiac 15-6 and led UMass Lowell 10-0 after the first quarter. Sure, this wasn't Duke and Maryland, but it didn't have to be. Scrimmages are a time for evaluating talent and deciding on future lineups and rotations.

Frankly, I'm not disappointed to move on from some of the names of the past. We have a number of talented young players eager for a chance to play.

I do think we have the best face-off specialist and goalie in the conference. We also have a defense led by seven graduate students. The question is, will this team be able to score enough goals to win?

The Dutch return a very good goalie and two close D starters as well the starting LSM moving down to close, they return the fogo that became the #1 fogo last year and top three SSDM's from last year. - on offence we return 112 of 150 Goals and 177 out of 222 total points. we lose to graduation Dylan McIntosh 25G and 4A and James Philbin 10G and 2A.

Last year was an injury tsunami season and they still beat both teams that ended up in the CAA championship Del. and Tow. .

I also believe one of the keys to the season, as always, is keeping the best players on the field. Encouraging scrimmage results from last Saturday. I was very glad to see the Merrimack game switched to Sunday. Those projected Massachusetts temperatures and wind would be brutal for all involved.

Ciao Dutch Lax Fandom...I'm stuck here in rural Maine without ESPN+ and I can't seem to
connect with the HU audio, either. I'd sure appreciate any updates anyone can provide on how
the Merrimack game is progressing. Thanks a bunch...

Like I said in a previous post, I don’t know where we’re going to get our scoring from. We’re going to have to keep all our games under 8 goals

DM 57 - I guess the remaining Dutch Lax Fandom is just me and maybe Stuball. HU down 9 - 2 late in the 3rd and the feed went dead. Maybe Tierney pulled it some how. Lol. I just don't see how the AD etc. let the program sink this far. There are no fans left, attendance is miniscule compared to the old days, the destruction of this once proud and storied program continues.

Not pretty. Gates is a good goaltender. Merrimack had some fairly close in wide open shots that they put on net.
Hofstra kept missing the net when they got decent looks. Can't score if you don't put it on net. Today particularly Rory Jones.
Signs of a pulse late with a freshman from Florida scoring in close and Madsen scoring twice with Kane creating some offense.
We need more from Seniors like Sykes, Sheridan, Ardrey etc. I think they can shake this one off but the D needs to tighten up too.

Jojo, I hear you, and although I disagree with that position I do understand that you simply want to post on the games. Certainly nothing wrong with that. I personally have been much better in recent times, not even bothering to post. And I won't be a nuisance this year either - I simply don't have the time or energy to care more than the university does. It's a complete waste of time. And that's HU's fault, not mine / ours.

That said, I think the challenge with your ask is that the failed state of the program has become fully egregious for the last 11 years(!!). IMO it's a lot to ask the fanbase to simply sit back and pretend or ignore, and just post and follow along like everything is a-ok. Fans are rightly extremely upset. And this is a sports message board - that's what these communities are built for, they are sounding boards and outlets for fans to express, to interact, to communicate, etc. Sometimes overly intense (guilty!) but hey that's the way it goes.

It might be tough to hear, and I get that it gets annoying, but see the REAL question isn't why do all these threads have to constantly become complaint headquarters about program, the question is why hasn't Hofstra done a damn thing to fix it for more than a decade?

I do hope one day this program turns things around and returns to a state of respectable quality and national relevance, and even more, I hope HU's leadership eventually does what it takes to do so. Enjoy the season HU brethren.

Does Cole read any of these posts? Does he watch the product on the field? Seems like he's oblivious.

I'll just throw my two cents in even though IDK a lick about lacrosse. The last time we were in the NCAA tourney was in 2011. We have had decent years since then both in 2014 11-5 and 2017 11-3. So if my math is right we have had 5 sub par years. Now I know that Metzger is a big donor at HU and he played lacrosse there years ago. This I didn't know so it sounds like they're all in bed together and Cole has been pulled into this donor orgy. Nobody wants to mess with the money stream it sounds like but in the meantime we are sinking further down in quicksand not pulling the plug on this travesty. Someone who knows this program correct me if I'm wrong!! Also weren't we ranked #1 in the country for a while in 2017 when we were undefeated? I kinda remember something like this then we lost to Delaware and went into a freefall and didn't make the tourney.
