Game 18 at Northeastern on 1/9/2020 at 8:00 P.M.

Post by EvanJ »

The game is at 8:00 P.M. because it is in CBS Sports Network after Drexel at Towson at 6:00 P.M. Hope for that game to be quick or the beginning of our game game could be shown online only. It won't be on Flo, but I think CBS Sports will stream it online. Delaware at JMU will be on SNY and MASN at 7:00 P.M. https://twitter.com/GoNUBall/status/1214563435431677954 says:

"Real Life, Eli
@GoNUBall
Thursday night we have a home game, with students on campus, on national television, against the media's preseason favorite, which also happens to be a rematch of last year's CAA title game.

If we can't pack Matthews with students, it's a blatant failure by the Athletic Dept."

Our game at Northeastern got only 1,208 last season, it was a Saturday at 4:30 P.M., and we were on a 16 game winning streak. Northeastern averaged 1,115 last season, so that game wasn't too much above average.

https://gohofstra.com/news/2020/1/7/men ... stern.aspx is Hofstra's preview titled "MBB: Hofstra Heads North For Nationally-Televised Showdown With Northeastern." It's been a while since "nationally-televised" could be said about a CAA game before the CAA Tournament. Hofstra and Northeastern are 23-23 against each other.

https://nuhuskies.com/news/2020/1/7/men ... al-tv.aspx is Northeastern's preview titled "Huskies Host Hofstra in CAA Championship Game Rematch on National TV." It includes a 1:48 interview with Coach Bill Coen.

https://static.caasports.com/custompage ... m#team.ind is Northeastern's statistics.

217 active players have at least 1,000 players, and Buie is one of 18 to be under 6 feet tall. Pemberton is 22nd among active players. JMU's Matt Lewis is seventh among active juniors. Jeantal Cylla, who transferred to and from UNCW, now is a senior for Arkansas and has 1,000. Among active players in the area, Seton Hall's Myles Powell leads with 1,917. Pemberton's 1,655 is third and a little behind 1,673 by Raiquan Clark of LIU. Mustapha Heron of St. John's is close to them with 1,639.

They have three forwards who are better rebounders than Murphy, who averages 2.8 in his small sample. Maxime Boursiquot, who is back after an injury redshirt last season, averages 7.8 points and 4.4 rebounds. He shoots all types of shots well. He doesn't attempt many threes, with them being 17 of 77 attempts, but made a majority of his threes with 9. Shaquille Walters averages 7.1 points and 4.5 rebounds. He shoots twos well but shoots threes 9-39 (.231). Greg Eboigbodin averages 3.4 points and is second on them with 5.1 rebounds. They're only players who attempt hardly any threes are him and Murphy with 1 three attempted and missed. Walters is a junior, Boursiqout is a redshirt junior, and Eboigbodin is a redshirt sophomore in his first season for them after transferring from Illinois.

Their three double-digit scorers are redshirt senior guard Jordan Roland, freshman point guard Tyson Walker, and senior guard Bolden Brace. Brace leads them with 6.1 rebounds. Northeastern is second in Division I with a .805 free throw percentage, and Pepperdine leads with an amazing .844. All of their players shoot free throws well except for Walker at .625 and Guilien Smith who made 2 of 4. Other than those two and 3 of 4 made by Murphy, their lowest free throw percentage is .767 by Walters. Roland shoots .897, which leads the CAA.

Looks like we're a 3.5 point underdog according to Sagarin. We're essentially even but Sagarin gives a homecourt advantage, currently at 3.27 points.

This is a well coached team as we have seen over the years who pass the ball and hit the open man. They are small even smaller then us for the most part at least their starters. I watched highlights of their loss to W&M AND THEIR FRESHMAN PG Walker is a good looking player from Westbury who I believe went to Christ the King. Roland had an off game in this game otherwise NE would have won. They could kill us from beyond the ARC if we're not defending it Roland and Bolden Brace. In the post presser Coen said that they missed Murphy who he said we're hoping would be back before too long and mentioned Greg Eboigbodin being in and out of the lineup with minor injuries. So it doesn't sound like we will be seeing Tomas tomorrow but still this is a tough game and they play well at home. Maybe another potentially big game for Kante we'll see.

They're 3-3 at home, 5-2 away, and 1-2 neutral. Their first home win was over Harvard, who is 96th in NET. Their last two home wins were over Maine (334th) and Elon (337th), who are both on the bottom 20 of 353 teams. Their SOS is 304th, and since beating Harvard they haven't beat a team in the top half of the NET in their last 14 games, with their best win at Towson, who's 189th.

Generally speaking aside from this year they do play well at home right.

Hope the D traveled up to Boston. I think they're going to struggle to score in this game, much like last year at Matthews (a 75-61 loss that ended the 16-game wining streak), and that was, of course, with JWF.

I think Northeastern is going to be amped up for this one (bit of a late tip at home, national TV, CAA title game rematch) and as he often does, Coen will have NU will playing good D, so Hofstra better be prepared to play one of their better defensive games and be willing to go after every 50/50 ball. I think it'll take that kind of gritty effort, rather than being able to score well, to pull this one out.

Huskies by 4.5, with a 146 O/U, equates to an expected 76-71 Northeastern win, but I think HU might have to win this one in the 60s (similar to the way W&M won there on Sat, 66-64).

I think we should be amped up as well. This is a revenge game for us; they killed our winning streak and our NCAA dreams last year.

Time for PAYBACK!

They absolutely should for the reasons you said, but that usually translates to better defense, and NU plays better D than HU. Plus, the home team also usually figures to have an edge with those types of intangibles, in general. I'd be disappointed if both teams didn't approach and play this one like it's a big game.

29-15 HU so far so good! EP looks great! Now HU by 33-22 with 3:22 left in the 1st half. HU leads at the half, 40-24.

Before the game, Buie and Roland combined for 26.6 percent of their teams' points. So far Buie (4) and Roland (0) have 4 of the 44 points, which is 9.1 percent.

Nice first half! good ball movement, spreading the floor, guys hitting most of thier shots.

IK having best half of this season. Good on teh boards, solid inside offense, and making some nice passes on the high picks. Great to see.

TC must be in the doghouse - ST playing well but has to stop shooting 3s (what else is new).

NU is off a bit, so the lead should not be as large as it is, but hey, we'll take it.
