2019-2020 Men's Basketball Bracketology

Post by EvanJ »

ESPN has us with a 15 seed playing Duke in Greensboro. You can use this topic to post from any source. It doesn't have to be ESPN, and it doesn't have to be a source that uses the term "bracketology."

That would be cool. For confidence, they could play the Stephen F. Austin win at Duke on a continuous loop from Selection Sunday until the tip of that game (as well as the Lehigh and Mercer NCAAT wins over Duke).

To hualum, I guess you were correct about the St. Bonaventure game! I hope it does not affect the Stony Brook game.

Northeastern is now the CAA's representative with a 16 seed. In KenPom, it's only 25 spots from first to sixth in the CAA. In the Sagarin, Northeastern is sixth in the CAA and 185th overall, which is in the bottom half.

Check out the latest 3/14 projection Andy Katz has in Albany!

Also interesting, he has Vermont vs. Seton Hall in the 4/13 game in Albany.

Does the NCAA care about storylines and reasons to talk about the worse seeds? Pemberton is good, but not as good as JWF was or Knight or Riller if they make it. All other things equal, if Villanova and us get seeds that play each other, it makes sense to pair us.

Vermont got to play in Hartford last year. Considering they're a mid-major in a corner of the country, it would be great for them to get consecutive years of easy travel for their fans. If they get a 13 seed, they would have the same seed in three consecutive appearances, which would be in four seasons. If they made odds before the season for most likely to get a 13 seed, Vermont might have been the favorite. Furthermore, not that they're likely to win two games, but if they do he has them with Regional Semifinals and Final in New York City. If Stony Brook wins the AE and gets to play in Albany while we get a better seed and get sent farther away, will you be mad?

None of the brackets I see are taking the 1 seed as of now, W&M. ESPN hasn't made a bracket since Friday, Andy Katz took us, and NBC Sports and CBS Sports have Charleston as a 15. Joe Wright, who is in Charleston, in sports media, and occasionally posts here, also has Charleston as a 15. https://www.teamrankings.com/ncaa-tourn ... cketology/ uses simulations and has us with a 13. Our NET and rankings in general are much worse than average for a 13 seed. We're 128th in the NET, Liberty is 64th, and TeamRankings gives them a worse seed at 14.

They say they don't and that it's always just where they happened to end up, but some of the coincidences with the matchup storylines involved over the years, especially when they had to stretch seeds, either way, to make them happen, make that difficult to believe. CBS and the Turner networks paid a LOT of money for the current contract to air the NCAAT and it's a safe bet to think that ratings and storylines play a part in the committee's decisions on matchups (and even on at-large selections, for that matter).
