MBB Game 5: at UCLA (Thu 11/21, 11 pm ET)
I know this is two games ahead, but a UCLA conference rival played Hofstra's common opponent tonight (11/14).
Hopefully, this isn't an indication for Hofstra's chances at UCLA, but...
- UCLA was picked 2nd in the Pac-12.
- Arizona was picked 4th in the Pac-12.
- San Jose State, of course, won the opener at Hofstra last week.
- Tonight, Arizona beat San Jose State, 87-39.

Anyone know if there’s a stream for these west coast games?
Re: MBB Game 5: at UCLA (Thu 11/21, 11 pm ET)
This game will be on Pac-12 Networks (the channel name is plural because it's regionalized), and there is no paid or free video if you do not get Pac-12 Networks on TV. If you get Pac-12 Networks on TV, you can log in through your TV provider to watch online. It looks like Cal State Fullerton (8:00 P.M. on Sunday November 24) and San Diego (10:00 P.M. on Wednesday November 27) provide free video. The West Coast Conference, which has San Diego and most famously Gonzaga, uses Stadium like the Patriot League.

I thought SJS was a decent team - size, mobility - one game doesn't mean everything but that's a pretty bad beatig that SJS took vs Az...
Re: MBB Game 5: at UCLA (Thu 11/21, 11 pm ET)
This has all the makings of a total a$$ whooping lol
BUT, if this staff and team can get some things straightened out, this is also a name-making game opportunity. Now I don't see it yet, but hey ya never know, we'll see if they recognize and treat it as such. HU does have talent, and they are certainly going through some expected growing pains here post JWF and Taylor... it's all a bit inconsistent right now, and very little leadership has shown through, but they can get better and set themselves on fire with an upset W in this game.
Will take a night of high % shooting, and somehow not getting fully manhandled in the post. I don't see any way Kante can hang with these guys all game, would imagine a healthy dose of steady rotation down there may be in order just to have a chance of keeping up. Will need the guards to play big, ballsy, and attack.
Would love to see a 2-1 trip, or miraculously even better... but that's not happening if they continue to show what they have these first couple of games. The trifecta of defense, rebounding, and ball / off-the-ball movement needs prompt attention.

The problem with these games is that even when they had more size, and they played a good game from tip into the second half, the other team's athleticism becomes too much to handle and their bigs just take over, like Fernando or Harrell. Can't see them hanging in this one, but looking forward to watching them try (if I can find a stream).

Hmmm ... both Thursday's MBB game and Saturday's WSOC game are available on Fubo, which has a 7-day free trial:

Oh I hear ya cactus... and many times out-coached. But JM has also shown to steal a decent 'name' win a couple of times over the years... never know.
Lesser mids are knocking off P5's left and right. Really hoping they've been working their butts off across the board from the top down and are up to the task to show us something worthwhile on this west coast swing.

Cool, will need to check it out as I've come up blank on other attempts to get the Pac-12 network.Jojogunne wrote:Hmmm ... both Thursday's MBB game and Saturday's WSOC game are available on Fubo, which has a 7-day free trial:

Yes, we seem to play the P5's pretty well...didn't we beat Florida or Fla St a couple of years ago and they were loaded!Polito wrote:Oh I hear ya cactus... and many times out-coached. But JM has also shown to steal a decent 'name' win a couple of times over the years... never know.

We beat Florida State 82-77 in the Paradise Jam in U.S. Virgin Islands on November 20, 2015. Other than that, the best conferences we've beaten from 2015-2016 to the present are the Atlantic 10 (several), the Missouri Valley (Bradley), and Conference USA (Florida Atlantic).

I don't know how we're going to deal with their size not to mention athleticism. Per Newsday we're a 10 point underdog and that may just be the tip of the iceberg. It will be interesting to see what our game plan will be because when we play Bill and Mary we will be overmatched in terms of height in the post etc.
Re: MBB Game 5: at UCLA (Thu 11/21, 11 pm ET)
Despite this, Vegas expects UCLA to win in a fairly competitive game, 79-66 (Bruins favored by 12 1/2 with a 144 1/2 O/U).Wags wrote:I know this is two games ahead, but a UCLA conference rival played Hofstra's common opponent tonight (11/14).

I'll take a competitive game and a 10 point loss....
Re: MBB Game 5: at UCLA (Thu 11/21, 11 pm ET)
It's now up to 14 and 146, which would equate to an 80-66 UCLA win.
Interestingly, there's another CAA team playing at a Pac-12 team tonight... William & Mary at Stanford (-11, 139.5 O/U).

Re: MBB Game 5: at UCLA (Thu 11/21, 11 pm ET)
Yep, please just don't get waxed by 20-30+. Put up a legit fight and make them earn every bit of it.
Re: MBB Game 5: at UCLA (Thu 11/21, 11 pm ET)
https://www.vegasinsider.com/college-ba ... las-vegas/ now says 14.5 and 145, so makes 80-65. It says 11 and 138.5 for W&M, which makes 75-64.Wags wrote: It's now up to 14 and 146, which would equate to an 80-66 UCLA win.

The free part of KenPom has UCLA by about 9.5. The Sagarin and its components take UCLA by 11.07, 10.96, 9.28, and 16.05, with the last one from the Recent component. Therefore the formulas say you should take Hofstra against the spread. UCLA is undefeated, but they're 74th in the Sagarin because their SOS is 270th. They haven't left home, and their 4 wins are against teams with an average NET of 204th last season. Taking out those teams' losses to UCLA that don't go in UCLA's SOS, those teams are 5-8 this season. In harder remaining nonconference games, UCLA plays Brigham Young (BYU) and two other teams possibly including Kansas in Hawaii, goes to Notre Dame, and plays North Carolina in Las Vegas. They play two common opponents with Hofstra, which are San Jose State and Cal State Fullerton.
https://gohofstra.com/news/2019/11/19/m ... -ucla.aspx is Hofstra's preview titled "MBB: Hofstra Heads West To Historic Pauley Pavilion To Face UCLA."

https://uclabruins.com/news/2019/11/19/ ... ening.aspx is UCLA's preview titled "UCLA Set to Face Hofstra on Thursday Evening."
https://s3.amazonaws.com/sidearm.sites/ ... _Nov21.pdf is UCLA's Game Notes. Neither one says a word about our current team. They have the 2001 NCAA Tournament box score.
http://stats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?id=279769 will have statistics. They use the StatBroadcast format that I like much better than SidearmStats. I'll be asleep during the game, but tomorrow morning it will have details that other sites don't have.
If anyone doesn't get Pac-12 Networks and is up at 1:00 A.M., they let you watch 5 minutes per month for free, so you can watch the end if it's close, albeit if it goes overtime you couldn't watch that.
