2019-2020 Women's Basketball

Post by EvanJ »

The Women were picked last with 13 points. The poll was done by 10 coaches who do not ranked their own teams, and JMU was unanimous among other coaches with their coach ranking Drexel first. The nine non-Hofstra coaches combined to rank Hofstra only 4 spots above last. JMU had the Preseason POY and three Second Team players. Hofstra didn't have anybody among the 15 players on the First Team, Second Team, and Honorable Mention. If they are going to give exactly five Honorable Mentions, they should call them the Third Team. That goes for both genders.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=urj3hOVbA9w is highlights of the 43-41 win at Hartford, who was good last season. Hartford missed two layups and shot an airball three to determine the winner. After 9 lead changes, Hofstra took their largest lead at 25-15 after a three-point play by Marianne Kalin with 1:59 left in the second quarter. In the third quarter, the lead went down to 3, and back up to 10 at 34-24 with 2:45 left in the third quarter. Kalin made a layup for Hofstra's last points with 1:58 left. They led 43-34 and held on after Hartford made a three 8 seconds later and two twos.

Hofstra made 13 of 58 field goals, and their .224 field goal percentage was their worst in the seasons the CAA has statistics for going back to 2005-2006!

Edit: Stony Brook more than doubled us, 81-38.

I used to follow the women's team more in the past when they were competitive. Even with the changing of the guard and a bit of hype about the new coach this seems to be same old same old. When we had Boogie sometimes we would pull off a miracle. I know it takes time for things to turn around but boy I wonder if we have hit rock bottom and the only place to go is up. I sure hope so. I looked at the box score and in losing by 42 points you would think more of our players would have gotten minutes. We used 9 players and have 16 on the roster. IDK if we have injuries and maybe ineligibles but this is ridiculous. Does anyone have any info. on the state of affairs here with this team?

This team hit rock bottom last year...this is the first year of rebuilding...give them a break! We will know nothing until after three years...then it would be time to take stock...look at Jay Wright's first three years at Hofstra...some wanted him fired!

We trailed by 8 at halftime and lost 85-46 to previously 0-6 LIU. Since beating Hartford, we lost 5 games by an average of 25.6. Our closest loss was 9, and 3 of 5 losses were by at least 27.

This team doesn't score so unless they have lock down D they're not likely to win.

HUsid I will amend just one thing from my previous post. The team WILL hit bottom this season. They have no one on this team that approached Boogie Brozoski from last years team. Last years team went 11-22 and 3-15 in conference. They are already 1-5 this season OOC. Their OOC is filled with cupcakes except SBU. Last season they avg 59.2 points per game. So far its almost 12 points lower at 47.7. Point differntial last year was -6.5 this year its already -21. Last year they shot 38% this year its down to an astounding 28%. Sorry this team could struggle to win 8 games.

Stu, I have seen them live twice here in CT (including their lone win). They should be ecstatic if they get to 8. I am thinking 3 or 4. Other than the freshman point guard, there is zero talent.

Building one piece of the puzzle at a time. Kalin had a good game but nothing personal but I'm not a big fan. We need a real post presence like that kid we had for a while who transferred. I'm sorry I don't remember her name.

Kaline is only6ft1 some teams have guards that big She always gives 100 percent effort but against CAA opposition she us over matched We have the shortest team in the CAA We need athletes and this team has been short of that the last several years Even when we had Shante Evans in the post She was on her own against bigger centers She was a beast inside at 6ft even

The last true center we had was 6’4 Jess Fuller she was the center and Evans at 6 ft was the power forward that was in Shantes freshman year Jess then got injured next year and was never the same
