MBB Game 23 at Northeastern on February 2, 2019 (4:30 P.M.)

Post by EvanJ »

https://gohofstra.com/news/2019/1/27/me ... wdown.aspx is Hofstra's preview titled "MBB: Hofstra Ships Up To Boston For Northeastern Showdown."

https://s3.amazonaws.com/sidearm.sites/ ... game23.pdf is Hofstra's Game Notes,

Northeastern has not written a preview yet. https://static.caasports.com/custompage ... m#team.ind has their statistics. In New England, the game will be on NESN Plus. It will be on CAA.TV for everybody.

http://stats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?id=235608 will have statistics during the game.

On CSNBBS, 8 of 10 people picked Northeastern to win. One of the two people who picked Hofstra was swampcougar1, a Charleston fan who gained on other people by predicting Charleston's loss hosting Drexel.

If JWF scores double-digits, his streak will reach 76 games and tie David Robinson's CAA record from 1985 to 1987. It would tie him for 14th all-time, and tie him with Northeastern's Reggie Lewis from 1984 to 1987 for the longest streak on a team currently in the CAA. If he scores double-digits every game including 3 CAA Tournament games and 1 NCAA Tournament game, his streak will end at 88, which would be 7th all-time.

We really want UDel to lose so Charleston-NE is the 2-3 matchup. Don’t wanna have to beat both of them. Any guesses on the spread for Sat? I’d say Hof-2 but I really don’t have a lot of conviction saying that.

I'd say -3.5 Sat, and they should worry about us come March, not vice versa

Up 4 on Northeastern, but Charleston and Delaware could stay within 3 1/2 with wins on Saturday (although those two would still be 4 in the loss column, like NU).

I'm thinking the odds makers will have this game as a pick-em or close. If you go by Sagarin we are a one point dog due to the home court.

Last year Hofstra won up there so they should be pretty comfortable.

CAA championship level game tomorrow. Let's see how ready this squad really is to cut nets. Finally got some TV time, very very happy about that, now gotta show out!

Not surprised about UD. Know others have felt the same, some cooling would occur.

Two biggest games to me are NU and W&M. I know CofC can not be taken lightly at all, and is of course a major game, I just really place a lot on games where the opponent played HU to the last second. And those are the only 2. HU still needs to show those wins weren't luck. A buzzer beater and triple OT wins could easily go either way. Time to prove the team is better.

Also, in full agreement that having a nice path to the crown would be a tremendous boost - 3 in 3 is rough, but going through all 3 of the toughest conf opponents in a row would not be ideal. Although doing so would be one heckuva story!!

Hofstra (seventh at 1.42) and Northeastern (ninth at 1.40) are the only teams in the same conference in the top ten in points per shot.

It will be a simulcast of Northeastern's announcers, so it won't have pro-Hofstra or neutral announcers. At least it will get in TV listings and can be found by people going through channels to see what they want to watch. It is also possible to DVR it. CAA.TV allows you to watch games after they are over, but if you pause during a game, pushing play makes it go live rather than where you paused it, so pausing doesn't do anything.

Actually Elon did also, game was about a half inch from going to OT. W&M home vs away is night and day, they’re 8-14 overall and have just 2 road wins on the season. I expect us to be double digit favorites there. Despite Charleston playing poorly against us the first time they’re still 17-6 overall and dominant at home, that will likely be a much tougher game than home vs. W&M.

Line opens NE -1.5. Been a while since we’ve been underdogs.

I'd take that bet. We're winning by a dozen

I expect Jacquil Taylor to have a big game, and not necessarily from a scoring standpoint. He grew up in Cambridge and will probably have a lot of family and friends at the game.

https://nuhuskies.com/news/2019/2/1/men ... thews.aspx is Northeastern's preview titled "Dogs, Pride set for Saturday Showdown at Matthews: Northeastern will look to take down the league’s No. 1 team Saturday afternoon at 4:30 p.m." They say JWF has 72 assists, but he has 76.

https://s3.amazonaws.com/northeastern.i ... ofstra.pdf is Northeastern's Game Notes. Vasa Pusica (27) and Donnell Gresham (13) have long streaks of free throws made. Jordan Roland is at .904, which is better than Buie's .900. Forward Anthony Green shoots free throws .591 while having the second most attempts on his team, and Shawn Occeus shoots them horribly for a guard at .567.

Northeastern has used 11 players, all of whom played at least 124 minutes. 9 players are averaging at least 9.5 minutes per team game. The 8 players except Green (no threes attempted), sub forward Tomas Murphy (14 of 113 attempts were threes), and Shaquille Walters (4 of 17 attempts were threes) have had at least 40 percent of their attempts be threes. Pusica has 47.5 percent of his attempts be threes, which is the lowest percentage of their four starters other than Green.

It's nice to have this game simulcast on MSG since it will be easier to get if I'm not home rather then having to stream it however I was hoping for some N.Y. ANNOUNCING NEUTRALITY. I'll be repetitive but always shut off the volume can't deal with the ineptitude of the biased commentators. Still better to access the game on MSG !

Much better exposure for the progam...NE usually does a pretty professional job...one of the better CAA schools in this regard.
