http://gohofstra.com/news/2018/4/17/sof ... h=softball we are ranked 25th in three polls, and it's the first time since 2013 that we're ranked. I tweeted at https://twitter.com/EvanJ3535/status/986332753976283137 and Andrew Coen (who I think is here but I don't know his username) quickly liked me tweet.

In the first game of a doubleheader hosting Wagner, Hofstra won 2-0. Cornell pitched a shutout with 2 hits, 11 strikeouts, and 0 walks to improve to 18-5. In the second game, Dandola pitched a perfect first inning.

Hofstra leads 16-1 in the bottom of the fourth. Hofstra has had 13 players score. I wonder what Hofstra's record is for most players scoring in a game. In the bottom of the second, it started error, sacrifice bunt, and error. Obviously if the first error had been an out, it wouldn't have been followed by a bunt, but for earned run purposes it should have been a 1-2-3 inning, so Wagner's started pitched 2 innings and allowed 9 runs with none of them earned. A pitcher allowing at least 9 unearned runs without any earned runs happened 261 times in MLB since 1908, but only 5 of the times were 1931 or later, and it hasn't happened since 2002.

16 runs on 11 hits for Hofstra in the second game. I will dare say this- they didn't look good at the plate in either game. Yes, this is despite the 16 runs. They really only started to tee off of Wagner's third pitcher, who also was let down by her defense.

They did, however, play fantastic fundamental ball, took advantage of every mistake, ran the bases incredibly well, and pitched very well.

Today will be a better test- on the road, on a VERY odd field, against a team that despite their record this season, has traditionally been very good, after playing two yesterday.

AJ great assessment of the games. Their pitcher in the first game had a great changeup and kept our hitters off balance

Welp. Nevermind. It's 7-0, LIU is on their second pitcher, and Cornell hasn't even toed the rubber yet. The first two outs came from an outfielder literally running through a temporary fence to catch a foul ball, and the shortstop making a diving stop up the middle to get a force at second. Good at bats today.

13-4 run rule after 6 innings. Cornell’s pitches were up in the zone and she gave up 2 dingers. Has to improve on that if she wants to be effective against JMU and Towson

Ball was flying off bats today. Which kind of surprised me- it wasn't particularly warm there, and not much wind. Also one of the worst places to watch a ball game, but they do the most they can with the limited space they have.

AJ what’s your feeling on Cornell and Dandola. They remind me of Lashley and Pirone.

http://gohofstra.com/news/2018/4/19/sof ... h=softball is titled "SB: Dandola Named Candidate For NFCA Freshman Of The Year." Dandola and JMU's Payton Buresch, who leads the CAA with a 0.88 ERA, are the two CAA players among the 25 nominees.

I'm mad that Drexel's preview at http://drexeldragons.com/news/2018/4/20 ... eries.aspx doesn't mention that Hofstra is ranked.

Joe with the exception of Drexel every other school in the CAA has independent batting cages. We are only playing catch-up At one point we had one of the best softball facilities in the CAA now our facility while good is only mediocre compared to the other CAA facilities

What are our chances this weekend verse JMU? From the standings a sweep would clinch the top seed; is that reasonable? Seems like whoever wins the series though will have the inside track for the top seed.

Hofstra needs to win 1 of 3 to ensure they can keep the top seed. That would leave Hofstra at 16-2 and JMU at 15-3 in conference play after the weekend (which would mean Hofstra would then need to sweep Towson, who is currently in third at 11-4). More importantly, they need to win games now to make sure they can get in as an at-large.

It comes down to pitching- JMU relies on a freshman, albeit a very, very good one. Hofstra has been prone to the long ball against recently, and JMU has some home run hitters. So we'll see what happens. They ABSOLUTELY can win all three. Unfortunately they haven't faced any top teams in quite a while- there just aren't any good teams around for them to play. So seeing a step up like that could be tough. Will be good to get these challenges in right at the end of the year though, before going into the conference tournament.

So I've watched some of the games thru go hofstra and we have two very strong pitchers a sophomore and a freshman and both from Long Island. Pitching is always the name of the game in baseball/softball. Correct me if I'm wrong but at this stage of the season aren't we the team to beat. We haven't lost a game in the conference and JM has lost two. We have a very good team with a mixture of seniors etc. Even though James Madison won last year and was a pre-season favorite it appears as of right now we're the team to beat here. True or not??

Triple JMU and Hofstra are mirror image teams. This series could go either way. Both have soph and freshman pitchers. Both teams hit and field well and both hit for power. To me it’s a toss up
