thats pretty impressive (we lost 2-1) - I think last year Oregon hammered us a few times

Two home games for the team today! The St. John’s Tournament had to be split between HU and SJU so all 10 games could be played, as all of the games yesterday were cancelled.

They cancelled games yesterday due to cold weather 41 degrees but they are playing today 34 degrees.

I followed them when Galati was playing for us but now we have some good pitchers in Dandola and Sarah Cornell. Maybe we'll reclaim the CAA once again.

Weird quirk tomorrow, as Hofstra plays in the morning at St. John's, then returns home to play a few hours later. Like when the Mets and Yankees did the day/night at the two stadiums, but with much less time between games.

7-2 win over BU, to give Coach Anderson her 100th win, and 2-0 win over UMass.

So we go 4-0 as expected against weaker competition. The hitting had come around but despite hitting 4 homers and 19 runs and 26 hits. The hitting still needs to improve if we are to win the CAA. JMU still has formidable pitching and can shut down our offense We play Penn State next usually they are a good team but this year they are horrible they are 3-18 so far. Not good for out RPI

Trip to Penn State is canned. With the weather potential, not worth risking a trip out there.

I have no problem with that Penn State is 3-18 and have a horrible RPI.

Always nice to have wins against P5 schools on the resume...will it be made up?

It’s a long trip. I doubt it. Maybe we have a Dh against local schools instead of a single schedule game

Hofstra's schedule says it won't.

Hofstra just beat UNC Wilmington 3-2. UNC Wilmington scored 1 in the top of the seventh. After 1 each in the first, Brielle Pietrafesa's two run homer in the fifth was the winning hit. UNC Wilmington had 1 more hit. Considering UNC Wilmington was 7-14, that's bad. UNC Wilmington was 4-40 against Hofstra before today. This is Hofstra's 17th season in the CAA, which means they have faced UNC Wilmington under 3 times a season.

They're scheduled for three a season, but if a game gets rained out, it isn't made up.

Team moves to 5-0 in CAA play with a sweep today down at Elon.

Sarah Cornell, who struggled this week at home with her control a bit, gave up one run on six hits and only one BB over seven innings in a 10-1 win. Sophie Dandola, the freshman from Seaford, has been really good this year as well, as she only gave up one run on four hits in a 5-1 win.

Also, a long way to go, but Hofstra controls its own destiny in the CAA, as JMU lost their first conference game to UNCW. Wilmington hadn't beat JMU in seven years, so it was a bit of a shocker. Unfortunately it doesn't mean much more than seeding, as the conference tournament is at a designated site now, down in Harrisonburg.

Unless there are any more upsets it is a two team race between Hofstra and JMU. Also I see the CAA as a two bid league. Both Hofstra and JMU have enough of a resume to get at large bids. They also have enough of a history in the NCAA to impress the selection committee.

They will need to win basically every OOC game to pull that off. Losing to Fordham at home didn't help.

If their RPI at the end of the year is under 43 they are in. That seems to be the standard for mid majors

The CAA Tournament has 5 teams, and the 1 seed gets to start against a 4 or 5 seed who already played that day, although a 1 seed should be able to beat a 4 or 5 even if it was the first game for both teams.

Hofstra is 23rd in the RPI and is the third best mid-major behind Long Beach State and Louisiana. The only northern schools with better RPIs are Washington, Oregon, and Oregon State, so Hofstra has the best RPI in the northeast or midwest. James Madison is 36th. Out last 8 games before the CAA Tournament are all away.

Out of 296 teams, Hofstra is:

167th in batting average
37th in home runs per game
79th in slugging percentage
13th in ERA
17th in strikeouts/walks
7th in fielding percentage (the NCAA has us with 19 errors and the CAA says 20)
