HofstraHockey wrote:Huge series against Elon this weekend at home. Hofstra is 7-4 in CAA play, Elon is 7-5. They hold the third and fourth spots (the last two playoff spots), respectively. Charleston at 6-6 and Delaware at 5-7 are right behind them. Not only is it obviously important to make the playoffs, but getting the fourth seed means your opening game is likely against JMU, something you'd want to avoid. UNCW plays JMU this weekend, so Hofstra could move up to the 2 spot with some wins.

That Towson rain out and subsequent loss to them is going to bite them in the rear, though. They could be thinking about winning the regular season title, but they'd need some serious stumbling to happen in front of them now.
For what it's worth, 5 teams are in the caa tournament, not 4. That's new as of last year. And that rainout proves even further that it's time for turf. It was cancelled due to field conditions, not because it was actually raining. The baseball team hosted St John's that same day, and it was fine, because the basebeball field is turf and not grass. It's to the point where we're missing out on games because of it. The game against Fordham was supposed to be at home, and had to be moved to Fordham because they have turf and we don't.

1st game of DH over. Sara Cornell pitches a no hitter as Hofstra beats Elon 3-0. She struck out 9 and walked two.

We win the second game 8-0. Senior Jess Peslak on senior day gets the win with Alyssa Irons finishing off the 5th inning. after watching Elon play I cant see how they were 7-5 coming in. Now just take care of business against CofC and drexel and we could make some noise in the CAA tournament.

2 more wins today, against Binghamton. Cornell struggled in the first game, and exited with Hofstra down 4-1. HU scored 6 runs in the 7th, and held off the BU rally to hold on for a 7-6 win, and the second game was 9-0 win.

Hofstra is currently 70th in RPI (not including those two games), with a record of now 23-17. Only northeast teams higher than Hofstra are Fordham at #52, 36-13 (who Hofstra beat), St. Francis (PA) at #57, 39-9, BC at #68, 27-18 (who Hofstra beat), and Syracuse #69, 26-17. Hofstra is 10-3 this season against it's non-conference northeast opponents.

8 walked batters in the first game against Charleston, it literally lost us the game. Tie game in the 7th, Cornell leaves the game after giving up a lead off single, Irons then walks 3, which walked in the winning run. I haven't seen control issues that bad for Hofstra in a while during this season.

After getting swept by CofC Hofstra softball cancels its trip to Lehigh for a mid week DH. I wonder with nothing to play for if the coaching or Rabinowitz cancelled the trip

Rabinowitz? I very much doubt that. Baseball would have had it's midweek games cancelled for the past decade if that was the case.

Also no weather issues We have played Lehigh for a couple of decades and don't remember games being cancelled unless it is weather related

I cannot possibly imagine that Rabinowitz called down to have an already scheduled softball trip cancelled. Especially a bus trip to PA, which is a drop in the bucket. C'mon Stu, you're better than that. You have to think that Larissa wants the team rested and getting reps in the cages, especially since they play Friday this week. Games Wednesday, travel day Thursday, and game Friday leave basically no practice time.

Totally agree HH, to think the president of the University cancelled these games is absurd.

I wish Hofstra announced a reason, and I think the NCAA should require an explanation for canceled games since they could hurt your opponents' ability to make the postseason. Duke Men's Basketball would never have an out of conference game canceled without a reason announced.

Am I missing something, or is it possible the cancelation was because of academics before finals? That seems like quite a few days missing classes in May just to go to Pennsylvania. Could it also be possible the cancelation was from Lehigh and not HU?

To Stuball888, That fact about the HU schedule is probably correct, but what about the reason for the cancelation coming from LU?
