Game #24 vs. Delaware

Interesting that there is no line published for this one...I guess all the experts are not sure whether Rok or Eli will play. Does anyone know? Little did we know on New Year's Eve when we eked out a 2 point win at the Hens that we would be sitting at 2-8 in the CAA. We desperately need this game and the return homer against Drexel on Sat. Thoughts??????

One website has us opening as 11 point favorites, with RG and EP questionable. That line definitely seems like a mistake.

Tough line to set because of those 2 guys status. You closed -8 at Delaware without Bernardi.

My thoughts are if that line is really 11pt favs I take UD ALL DAY lolol  this HU team has shown they aren't likely to take anyone to the house in the CAA this year. With or without Rok and Eli.

I don't even really have a thought on the games anymore, it's so disappointing and straining to watch, with zero improvement - so just get a win. At this point just fight for some self respect to not finish dead last.

Stay out of a Friday CAAT game would be the next goal after that.

Hopefully Rok and Eli are not hurt badly - but if they are not 100%, I see no reason to rush them back for a dead season. These guys are 2 vital pieces going forward, so have no desire to force them into this mess and potentially jeopardize next year.

That said, I do hope they are a-ok and good to play the rest of this year, just for the positive of no major injuries.

Pemberton's injury looked bad when it happene. It's good that he's back. With Gustys out, hopefully Sabety doesn't get in foul trouble.

http://static.caasports.com/custompages ... m#team.ind has Delaware's statistics.

http://stats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?id=148106 has statistics. Delaware is starting Ryan Daly (guard), Darian Bryant (guard), Eric Carter (forward), Curtis McRoy (guard), and Jacob Cushing (forward). Two players who aren't starting have more minutes than McRoy, Cushing, and Carter combined. Delaware's second, third, fourth, and fifth leading scorers are not starting.

Delaware led 5-0. Then Hofstra went on a 10-0 run in 1:45. Hofstra leads 10-7 with 13:42 left in the first half.

Delaware is in the midst of a 13-2 run, while we've been scoreless for over 3 minutes. We're sorely missing Gustys' rebounding, no one is effectively grabbing any.

Update: Make that a 17-2 run, and we haven't scored in over 5 minutes. We're 0-7 of our last shots, and shooting 27.3% overall, compared the Chicken's 55.6%. Not much effort anywhere on the court tonight.

Delaware leads 35-24 at halftime. Hofstra has missed their last five three-pointers. Hofstra only has 13 rebounds and has been outrebounded by 10. Powers, who started the game averaging exactly 2 rebounds, has 4 already. His season-high is 5. Delaware has two players with more assists than the 3 assists Hofstra has, with 1 from Powers.

23-13, Delaware on the glass without Rok.

Delaware scored the first 5, Hofstra the next 10 (really thought they'd take control after that), but then 28-9, Delaware, to lead 33-19.

Lifeless effort. Given the competition, probably their worst half of the season. They come down and jack up quick misses, don't box out on their own glass (it's not all Rok's absence), and when Saety sets a high screen for a guard and rolls to the basket for what should be a layup (the way a PnR with a big man SHOULD work), the ballhandler never looks his way. The paint should be coming off the walls in the locker room at halftime. Maybe not, because not Joe's style, but he cannot be happy.

Wright-Foreman leads Hofstra with 7 points. Two of our four players who average in double-digits, had a combined 2 points at halftime. Pemberton has 2. Bernardi didn't score in the first half but made a three-pointer to start the second half.

The video showed an old advertisement for individual game tickets calling the season "new."

Edit: Hofstra has attempted 4 three-pointers, 1 two-pointer, and 4 free throws so far in the second half. Hofstra made all of those shots, which adds up to 18 points. Delaware leads 44-42. Wright-Foreman has scored 15.

Edit: Hofstra completed their 14 point comeback and is tied at 44, which made Delaware call timeout. Delaware has committed 4 fouls in the second half and Hofstra hasn't committed any. Almost two-thirds of the way through the game, Hofstra has only 4 fouls. Sabety had a dunk to put Hofstra up 46-44.

Edit: Less than halfway through the second half, Pemberton has 10 second half points (6 out of 6 free throws), Wright-Foreman has 8 second half points, and Bernardi has 5 second half points, putting all of them on pace for double-digit second half points. Hofstra leads 52-46, and Delaware called their second-to-last time. Hofstra is in the bonus. Hofstra scored 24 in the first half, and it took them just under a third of the second half to score 24 second half points.

That's more like it. 28-11 run to start the second half. Now up 52-46.

Matched their first-half point total in the second half just 6:36 after halftime.

Started the second half 7/8

Started the second half 7/8 (4/4 from 3; were 3/11 from 3 in the first half).

First 7 fouls of the second half called on Delaware.

Shouldn't take a whole half with the season they've had to start playing in the second half. Hopefully a lesson learned, but we'll see.

Wow, what a turnaround, 22 points to be exact! We now lead 57-46. I really just wish we could have this kind of effort for a full 40 minutes

Hofstra leads 59-48. Delaware has gone 5:15 without a field goal. Sabety has 12 points and 14 rebounds, which WRHU says is his first Division I double-double. Powers has 8 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists.

Edit: Powers has a career-high 9 rebounds. Bernardi passed Tanksley for 28th in career points for Hofstra. Hofstra leads 67-62 with 1:16 left.

Amazing game for Sabety. His second game starting in D1 and he got a well-deserved double double.

You all spoke too early by saying we can't rebound without Rok. Sabety proved AGAIN he is an asset to this team. He always bring the excitement with his dunks, too.

His free throw shooting is not a liability to the team late in games. keep him out of foul trouble and he will be more than useful.

More than useful? Let me tell you he is playing better than Rok this year. More athletic, can block shots, converts better inside and makes moe free throws. Rok is a better rebounder but Sabety has really shown a lot with more PT.

Agreed HUSID80. "More than useful" is an extreme understatement. Sabety is a key asset to this team. For such a big guy he moves quick and muscles through our opponents defense. He was throwing down dunks with 3-4 guys surrounding him. He is seriously athletic and overpowering. I agree he is playing way better than Rok has this year. Not to mention he also had 3 killer blocks and 3 steals. He is not afraid to do what needs to be done for his team. Seriously looking forward to seeing more of Sabety for the rest of the season.
