Our men travel nearly 400 miles down to Elon today for their final "road tilt" of the season, a game that had to be rescheduled due to Covid:

The ride home on Wednesday will be close to 550 miles. This conference is too big for teams to travel by bus!

We are 39th in the RPI. That includes being above Murray State, who has 2 losses, and Miami (FL) and Notre Dame, who have a better conference record. I wonder if we ever had a better RPI this late in the season than teams with a better conference record in a top six conference. Maybe in 2005-2006. In the RPI, we're the second best team in the area behind Iona.

The preview doesn't link to Game Notes, so maybe they weren't made yet. Elon has not written a preview yet.

Old Dominion to Texas-El Paso (UTEP) is 1,985 miles, which means it could take longer by plane than busing to the four other Virginia schools they were in the CAA with. I live near Omaha, who is 542 miles away from travel partner Denver. Omaha is closer to every other Summit League school than to Denver. Denver is way west of the other schools, and they're more geographically out of place than Northeastern.

Once I went to see us host VCU, and a VCU fan said they flew to Hofstra.

I just paid for KenPom. We average 0.204 free throw attempts per field goal attempt (which it calls "free throw rate"), which is the third lowest of 358 teams. The average is 0.302, which would be the lowest of the seasons KenPom has that statistic for, which goes back to 1986-1987. This will be the seventh consecutive season that the NCAA free throw rate decreased. The home winning percentage is also down to a record low. It is .565, and the lowest in a complete season 1996-1997 to 2020-2021 was .575 last season. People sometimes say that away teams get called for more fouls, so maybe that is less true now and is why the free throw rate and home winning percentage are down. It has player similarlity scores. For Estrada, the ten most similar player seasons include Jenkins as a junior and Wright-Foreman as a senior.

So ESPN gives us a 75% chance of winning this game. I know we could lose it but right now we're playing well. Do you think that we could be a 10 point favorite in this game on the road? Also saw an article from the Miami Herald that lists Cramer as having the highest shooting percentage at 66.7% on HU. Typical of just going thru meaningless statistics and not doing your job based on his 2/3 three's in the opening game against Houston.

Barring something unfortunate, gotta think we'll be faves in any game the rest of the way, unless we face Towson in DC

Elon plays well at home Expect this game to be decided by less than 10 points This is a trap game for us As good as we have played these past few games we cant look past anyone

I'm surprised a Miami paper would name any of our players or write about any of our CAA games except for listing every Division I score. As a minor correction, Cramer's missed three was at Maryland.

https://www.vegasinsider.com/college-ba ... las-vegas/ has lines for tomorrow, and we are favored by 6. Michael Graham is similar to Iyiola.

UNCW went in a drought at the end of regulation to blow the lead and won in overtime hosting W&M in a day game. If UNCW wins hosting Towson and JMU, they clinch the 1 seed on Saturday night. They end at Drexel and Delaware. Delaware leads 18-15 hosting JMU, and Drexel leads 15-12 at Charleston.

Edit: After playing 10 minutes against us, Delaware hasn't used Dylan Painter with 7:53 left, so he must not be full back from injury. With 7:36 left, Drexel is down 1 at Charleston. Camren Wynter has 6 assists, and he needs 4 more to pass Estrada for the CAA lead.

According to ESPN we are currently 6.5 point favs, we're given a 74.9% chance of winning and the over under is 143.

A bit worried about this game as it's our last road game until the CAA Championship and we're probably a bit weary.

Nevertheless, champions win these games and continue the streak.

What do YOU say?

I'll take 75% odds to win. Our last away game and the win would be huge. We come home and win the rest of our games and hopefully ride that momentum right thru the playoffs into the NCAA TOURNEY. Estrada & company continue their winning ways here. That's what I say!!

KenPom expects us to win 75-69. KenPom says our home court advantage of 2.2 ranks 334th of 358 teams. Mid-majors from New England down to Maryland have many of the lowest home court advantages, including eleven of the lowest twelve. UNCW leads the CAA with a home court advantage of 3.4, which ranks 109th. Seven CAA teams are 207th are lower. It is measured by scores, not directly by attendance, but I don't think it's a coincidence that the teams with the highest advantages get much higher attendance than the teams with the lowest advantages. I'm surprised that ours is that low because we play great at home, and our attendance isn't good but is much better than our home court advantage rank of 334th.

http://stats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?id=367251 will have statistics. Rather than HOF, they call us PRI.

Edit: http://defiantlydutch.blogspot.com/2022 ... -elon.html is Jerry Beach's "I'll Be Quirky: Hofstra at Elon." He cited my tweet saying "Per loyal reader EvanJ, Cooks is the first Hofstra player to have at least five rebounds and five assists while going scoreless since Shemiye McLendon had 10 rebounds and five assists in a 74-60 win over Towson on Jan. 12, 2011.

Silverio on fire to start: 5/5 fg, 4/4 from 3.

Hofstra up 30-17 with 8 1/2 left in the half. This team looks ready for D.C. Winning games in different ways with a variety of contributors over the differeny games lately, not just Estrada carrying them anymore.

I wonder what the record is for longest time to start the game without missing a two. With 3:52 left in the half, we made all 8 twos, 8 of 17 threes, and both free throws to lead 42-26.

Estrada with a 75-foot SportsCenter highlight to end the half!

Not often you see a team go a very good 5/10 from 3 in a half and still get doubled up from there as Hofstra shot 10/20 from 3, including the half of Omar Silverio's life (25 pts, 7/8 from 3) and Estrada ending the half on a 75-foot make. 56-34, Pride at halftime.

Silverio scored 25. He made a two, made his first 6 threes, missed a three, made a three, and made 2 free throws. Even Simmons and Cramer made both free throws to make us 6-6. Estrada shot 5-7 and scored 12. He had 1 rebound, 1 assist, and needs at least 4 assists (3 more) to keep the CAA lead. Dubar scored 9, and his last points were with 9:28 left. He led all players with 4 rebounds, and he and Simmons had 1 block each for the only blocks for either team. Cooks and Cramer scored 4; Simmons scored 2; and Burgess (0-1), Ray (0-3), and Iyiola (0-0) did not score. We had a great ratio of 9 assists to 2 turnovers. Cooks had 3 assists and 2 steals. Hunter McIntosh (12), Chuck Hannah (10), and Darius Burford (7) had most of Elon's 34 points. Woods led all players with 4 assists, and he entered averaging 1.9. Michael Graham made his only field goal. He had 2 points, 3 rebounds, 2 fouls, and 2 turnovers. Elon assisted on 11 of their 13 field goals, and committed 8 turnovers. We shot 20-32 (.625) including twos 10-12 (.833) and threes 10-20 (.500). I wonder how many times we made at least 10 twos and at least 10 threes in a half. With 3:43 left, Burgess had our first missed two. Simmons (7), Cramer (7), and Iyiola (6) split the forward minutes evenly. They combined for only 4 rebounds, which the game did not have much of because of how well both teams shot. We had more rebounds 14 to 9.

No choking in the second half. Foot on the pedal in the last 20.
