Is this roster good or bad news. It looks like we have a young team with some upperclassmen mixed in. Are there any kids we should look out for to make an impact right away?

IMO I think Rory Jones will be an impact player and I look forward to seeing him as a full time player, Gerard Kane is in great condition and should have a break out year. Hofstra has had a number of outstanding keepers the last few years and Mac Gates is another one. we should know more after Saturday.

8 of last years top 10 scorers return - 112 of 140 goals return (80%) as does goalie, 2 starting close D, 2 LSM, 2 SSDM and Chase Patterson at FOGO who came on strong at the end of the year.

Thing for me as I look at this roster, I see next to no transfers to boost/beef things up - but I'll defer to the more knowledgeable Lax guys here, what are your thoughts? Is that a big thing for lax like it is for football / basketball?

Because considering how awful this program has been, I would think going out and working hard to bring in some immediate help from the portal would be a big focus this past offseason... no??

Looking at the freshman on this roster I notice we got a recruit from Yorktown Heights by the name of Connor Huffnagle if history Serves me right we have done very well with players from Yorktown Heights the Dooley brothers were from that region and they were both stars for this team hopefully Connor can keep this tradition going

Dutch had a good day, everybody looked good in the first game v. Wagner.

Hofstra V. Lehigh first half had no rhythm because the refs were flag happy including one play with 4 flags and all (3 Hofstra and 1 Lehigh players received non releasable. Lehigh scores on 5v3 and the next faceoff Hofstra only had 2 attack, fogo and wing and only had 2 on attack with one being a pole. I have never seen anything like that. When they played 6 v. 6 it seemed pretty even. Team looked very good.

Not a bad schedule overall, certainly not murderers row with barely any top 25 teams... see 1-2 but that may change obviously as the season gets closer and wears on - some solid programs though, medium SOS it seems to me, and at least what has to be considered a very winnable schedule whether they do or not

Def like 'Cuse at home - just stinks it's on a Tuesday night instead of a Sat :roll: but a great home game none the less - Michigan is a nice 'name' although not a power - I am a bit surprised we don't see more of Rutgers, Princeton, Army, Hopkins, Duke, ND, Maryland, UVA, UNC, Richmond, etc.... there are SO many relatively regional top programs to play yearly, having a less than stellar slate seems a little blah to me. But the CAA does provide a little bit of beefed up strength to help compensate I suppose.

Want to bump up my question regarding the roster - is the transfer portal becoming a big thing like in hoops and football? I see next to none on this roster which feels odd to me in today's collegiate climate...

So I'm wondering if that's just the state of this sport vs others or if this is a gap in the programs recruiting that should be addressed?

The Dutch did not bring in a lot from the portal but do return 7 players that have taken advantage of the "Covid" year that all were contributors last year and one player returning after a stint in the Army.

The portal has been very active as far as kids going into the portal but the movement has not been huge - certain programs reply heavily on it with mixed results (Rutgers, UNC, Duke, Syracuse and Maryland) it seems to be mostly kids going to traditionally better teams as one year rentals and that worked well for Rutgers but not well for Duke last year. We are not seeing much vertical or downward movements as much as mid level schools losing top players to uper level programs (See Dom Pryor Hofstra to UNC last year) - LIU was gutted this year after Wolf was shown the door

Richie LaCalandra (A) -> OSU (33G, 29A)
Will Mark (G) -> Syracuse (192 Saves, >577 GAA)
Jake Murphy (SSDM) -> Syracuse
Justin Joseph (FO) -> Drexel
Chris Campbell (D) -> UMass
Blake Behlen (A) -> Stony Brook

There are three players on the roster who qualify as transfers:

#21 Trevor Natalie, A, who was on Jacksonville's roster last year, but did not play.

#91 Colin DeGrassi, D, who played one year at the Community College of Baltimore County.

#99 Danny DeSanti, D, who played three years at Army West Point.

The team played well last weekend, although we committed far too many penalties, including one that left us with three men down for about two minutes. The coaching staff will clean that up.

I was very encouraged by what I saw from our face-off unit and goalies.

Also, this year the CAA goes back to allowing the regular-season champion to host the CAA tournament.

DeSanti was on the Hofstra roster for the 2020 "covid season" and is back this year for his final year of eligibility - Kane and Zimmerman were both at Ohio St previously

Love having Cuse at home for first time since 2003! I wish it were a weekend but if nice weather should still draw decent crowd even on a weeknight in March.
