Yup, and a problem for the rest of the CAA.HUSID80 wrote:Thomas early Estrada later and Carlos closes it out...becoming a script
Yes, which is why we can't give up on the season after OOC play. Takes time to develop and grow as a team. Also, the team defense has largely been reliable in CAA play: 73, 79, 51, 62, 57, 62, 68, 46, 65, 81, 72, 58, 53 (63.6 ppg allowed in CAA play).HofstraMathew wrote:We actually paly like a team this year. Feel like we haven't seen this in the past. Speedy really has built a solid rotation of 7-9 players; each with their own role. We aren't just relying on one guy to be the guy to win the game for us. But we also do have the luxury of having a guy like in Estrada if we need it (and heck maybe even a second guy in Thomas).
Right there with you on OOC. We played a very strong schedule which led to our record to be a bit weak. Definitely a few games we should have won but its essentially pointless once we wracked up a few losses and had zero chance at an at large. They got prepped for conference play and that tough schedule probably helped us pull out the Charleston win.Wags wrote:Yes, which is why we can't give up on the season after OOC play. Was hoping UNCW could get a win tonight to move HU into sole possession of first place, but forget that: 64-39, Charleston with 10:26 left. Might not be the worst thing if Charleston keeps pace and pushes HU to run the table the rest of the way until D.C. rather than if HU get a one-game cushion and gets complacent.
p.s. you have the best login name on this board any time Hofstra wins in Boston (only missing the 's' at the end to make it even better).
I think you're right, and maybe helped them win the Towson game at home too as well as really take care of business well and win all of these other CAA games by 13+ instead of playing down to opponents and either barely getting by or getting picked off more than once (besides the NC A&T loss).HofstraMathew wrote: They got prepped for conference play and that tough schedule probably helped us pull out the Charleston win.
I think you're spot on here. If they keep TCB and get the 1, we'd want Charleston and Towson to get the 2 and 3, because if top seeds hold until the semis, we'd want either Charleston or Towson to knock off the other in the semis so HU only has to go through one of them and not both. Of course, be careful what we wish for there because a 5 seed won it last year... however, I think it's different this year. That was a good 5 seed that put it together at the right time. I don't see that this year from 4 down - maybe UNCW, but I just don't see it the way they've played the last few weeks. This looks like a three-team race in D.C. this year, so if you can get the 1 and let the other two fight it out among each other, that's what you want.HofstraMathew wrote: I have been debating what we wanted in that UNCW/Charleston game. I feel like ideal situation is we want Charleston and Towson to be the 2 and 3 seeds. So the UNCW loss helps push them down to 4th. This way we can just take care of business and then avoid a potential Charleston/Towson until the finals.

Thanks for digging up these records, Wags. Do you happen to know what our record has been up at Northeastern? I guess I remember that string of 0-2 years.Wags wrote:Why do people only remember the bad? Most of that is ancient history at this point. HU has actually (for the most part) fared very well in recent years against Northeastern.HUSID80 wrote:Sign me up for it right now Wags! Seems we all have meories of struggles with our rivals to the north.
HU vs. Northeastern since the Huskies joined the CAA:
2021-22: 2-0
2020-21: 0-2
2019-20: 2-0
2018-19: 1-1
2017-18: 1-1
2016-17: 2-0
2015-16: 2-0 (including a 3OT win in Boston)
----------------
2014-15: 0-2
2013-14: 0-2
2012-13: 0-2
2011-12: 0-2
2010-11: 2-0
2009-10: 1-1
2008-09: 1-1
2007-08: 1-1
2006-07: 1-1
2005-06: 1-1
Yikes, if the conference is already at these levels now, imagine some of the rock fights we may see in D.C. next month as defensive intensity normally elevates and FG percentages and scoring usually drop in the CAA tourney.EvanJ wrote: The CAA shoots poorly. Of 32 conferences, the CAA is 30th in field goal percentage, 29th in three-point field goal percentage, and 26th in free throw percentage.
Here you go JoJo - including last night, HU is 8-10 in Boston since the Huskies joined the CAA. There is a clear dividing line since the string of 0-2 years you mentioned - up to and including those, HU was just 2-8 (from where the HU fan PTSD associated with playing in Boston stems ), but since then, HU is 6-2 in Boston and the two most recent were wins by 22 and 19.Jojogunne wrote: Thanks for digging up these records, Wags. I think that's because we recall the four regular season CAA titles and two NCAA tourney trips, but he's only had five 20-win seasons since he started with NU in their second year in the CAA (2006-07). Also, these past two seasons have really hurt his overall record. Prior to last year, he was 29 games over .500, but 9-22 last year and 8-15 so far this year have brought that considerably down.Jojogunne wrote: Also, during last night's broadcast CBSSN showed a graphic with Coach Coen's career record at Northeastern. I was surprised that it was only a little above .500.
