Transfer Portal
Re: Transfer Portal
The Valley is an old (maybe the oldest) and respected BB conference. Wonder why we lost this guy. Obviously someone thinks he can play and has an upside.

Re: Transfer Portal
I kind of remember talk about him being injured maybe at the season ticket holder's event. When he introduced himself I thought Lual said something not sure but I believe he wanted to get minutes and didn't want to redshirt. That could have been the precipitating factor.

I know this was the expected outcome all along, but Tyler Thomas is officially back for next season!

Re: Transfer Portal
Really surprised more was not mentioned about this on here. We'll see how he does at Valpo, but this is potentially an extremely big departure. I had very high hopes for Lual at HU. It seemed like he had the type of blend of height, athleticism, and skill rarely seen in an HU front court. Was really looking forward to seeing what he could with that for HU. I'm sorry that we won't get to see it. Then again, Valpo hasn't done much in a long time and if he didn't end up at a much better program than that, maybe I'm overestimating what he could have provided at HU. I like what I saw from his clips and his build, although a bit thin for his height.

Re: Transfer Portal
When his transfer first became known quite a few of us were surprised and posted as such. He didn't play a minute here and had no college resume so we couldn't figure out why he would have transferred. Considering that with all our bigs graduating except for Tomasco he was in line to get some playing time. Again nobody here is privy to what went on behind the scenes regarding Lual.Wags wrote:Really surprised more was not mentioned about this on here. Re: Transfer Portal
So this twitter post BY Gorchov says we had a 7' player named John Burke 92-93. I'm sure this is correct don't remember him but then says Lars Grubler was the next biggest player at 6'11. I thought Greg Washington was 6'11? I'm wrong he was listed as 6'10. Anyone remember this kid Burke? https://twitter.com/StephenGorchov/stat ... 2434131977

Re: Transfer Portal
I remember Burke. He was basically a bench warmer and came in for defense late in games. Coach VBK was quoted at the time as referring to him as 6'12" because he couldn't play like a 7 footer.triplec2195 wrote:So this twitter post BY Gorchov says we had a 7' player named John Burke 92-93. That sounds like Butch not giving him the credit for being 7' but probably in a somewhat joking nature.JoeyBagODonuts1 wrote:I remember Burke. Re: Transfer Portal
It looks like Burke transferred to D-2 LIU-Southampton after his Sophomore year (where he apparently flourished his senior year), and actually played some pro hoops in Germany.

Re: Transfer Portal
Interesting how we have former players all over the place doing work related sports jobs. Good post.
Re: Transfer Portal
With the new adds are settled (at least for now unless anything happens over the summer), I can say I really like what the staff did in recruiting - they addressed some major needs in size and rebounding and hopefully D. The scoring will be interesting to see who steps into the gaps, but I think the weapons are there. There is once again a lot of talent in this group, we'll see how they evolve and what kind of team they become once they gel.
I also really like how there is only 1 one year player, with the rest 2-4 years. That's excellent recruiting work right there - can't keep having huge turnover every year, have to find ways to create even a little bit of consistency with the transfers, and this staff is doing that - much easier said than done, kudos.
I am very encouraged to see a second year in a row where this staff seems to recognize their deficiencies and then go out and work hard on the trail to address them right away. Great sign. This new group seems to fit the bill in many ways.
A thumbs up from me in the offseason, digging it - the real question will be, is it enough to take down CofC and win the CAAT when it matters most. Not just the regular season. They've failed twice. They need to prove it in year 3 and get the job done. Shouldn't need any longer than that in today's 1 year wonder fast transfer turnaround game. This roster and some strong coaching / development should give them a very good chance to do so.
