Hofstra, Baseball, 2023

Post by stuball888 »

So I waited until the season was about a 1/3rd over
Now I know last year we were all giddy because we won the CAA conference championship
Well, I did give Coach Catalanato Credit for the championship. I did say that a lot of the players were from coach Russo‘s team the year before.
So, while a lot of players are still playing for us this year, we have almost a new pitching staff
I felt that last year, while the batting was great, the pitching staff was very underrated
So I’m comparing last year’s statistics for in conference only compared to this year this year we are in ninth place
With a record of 3-7
Last year we were third and conference, and hitting with a batting average of 274
So far this year we were seventh in hitting with the batting average of 263
That’s not much of a fall off
pitching last year was eighth in the conference with an ERA of 5.64
This year pitching with an ERA of 9.39.
That’s a big difference
Two years ago we had John Habian as a pitching coach
I think that made a big difference but again it was still John Russo‘s team
So while he won the CAA last year much of the credit has to be what John Russo left for coach Catalanato

Stu, have to disagree with this. ALL of our key pitchers from last year are back and pitching. Of the 53 games last year, 50 were started by pitchers still here. And all our most used relivers from last year are also back.

So now my question is how did our ERA go from 5.64 to 9.39.

We win the rubber game 4-0 behind a complete game shutout from Brad Camarda.

Come from behind walk off wins if my memory serves me well. A HBP won us the championship of the CAA. Speaks volumes!

I'm not jumping to any conclusions lets see how this plays out. Innocent until proven otherwise.
