Estrada Won ESPN's Player of the Week

Post by EvanJ »

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-baske ... gs-2022-23 says:

"Player of the Week: Aaron Estrada, Hofstra Pride
Estrada, last season's CAA Player of the Year, boosted his candidacy to win it again this season in a major way last week. He had 40 points against Elon on Thursday, shooting 16-for-25 from the field and 8-for-15 from 3-point range, grabbing four rebounds and making three assists. He then led the Pride in defeating AP No. 18 Charleston, which entered the game on a 20-game winning streak and hadn't lost at home since Feb. 19, 2022. Estrada finished with 25 points, including 23 in the first half, as well as seven rebounds and six assists. He shot 5-for-9 from 3 and played all 40 minutes in the win."

It also says that a Kansas State player returned from injury to end Abayomi Iyiola's time as a starter. Iyiola is averaging 4.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 2.4 fouls.

Edit: Estrada won sole CAA Player of the Week to tie Towson's Nicolas Timberlake for the most awards with three. Estrada has eight including last season.

Yeah and for once I want to have the best player playing for the BEST TEAM IN THE LEAGUE. Individual awards are great but team wins even better.

https://caasports.com/news/2023/1/30/me ... onors.aspx is titled "Hofstra's Estrada Collects Numerous National Player of the Week Honors." It says "Estrada was named Lute Olson National Player of the Week by College Insider and collected weekly national honors from ESPN and The Field of 68. In addition, Hofstra was named national Team of the Week by the NCAA." https://www.ncaa.com/news/basketball-me ... basketball says:

"Our March Madness National Team of the Week, Hofstra, suddenly has burst onto the scene in the CAA. The jewel of the conference has been and is still the College of Charleston. The Cougars had won 20 games in a row. But Hofstra ended the streak behind Aaron Estrada’s 25 points in an 85-81 win in Charleston. Hofstra won at Elon earlier in the week and suddenly is just a game behind Charleston, tied with Towson, for second place in the CAA at 8-2. Estrada is the kind of player that could cause havoc in the NCAAs if the Pride were to get past Towson, among others, and upset Charleston’s favored bid to win the CAA AQ."

If we make the NCAA Tournament, Estrada could be the best player on a team seeded 13 to 16. If we make the NCAA Tournament, I would expect a 14 or 15. To get a 13 we would need top seeds not winning other conference tournaments.
