MBB Game 7 - UNC Greensboro, 11/26/22, 2 PM EST

Post by Jojogunne »

UNC Greensboro won its first game in the Northern Classic by defeating Montana State University, 77-66. Here are the recaps from the two schools:

The Spartans are another team with athleticism, size and depth. We will have to play much better than we did tonight to pull out a W.

Well if they did they should be more then a 1 point favorite lol. It's time we jump out to a lead and not have to play from behind. Right the ship here.

Hate to pick on him but Carlos has already thrown the ball away twice live ball turnovers that have led to UNC points and thrown up a three attempt airball.

Up by 10 22-12 at the 11.01 mark. A hectic pace with Thomas hitting a few three's.

35-27 at the half as the half ends with another turnover by Carlos that leads to a layup. We were hot early but cooled off our D has been decent but we have missed a lot of open looks and went cold towards the end of the half. Better to be up by 8 then down by 8.

Estrada having an awful type game with missed shots and live ball turnovers leading to easy baskets. I'm not looking at stats but he only has a few points in this game and a few turnovers. We're up by 10 with 14:25 left.

Video quality definitely better today. And Hofstra played a lot better. Not going to crazy analyzing this game as it is still a tough angle to really see everything and I also missed the start of the second half. Clearly Estrada didn't have his A game but the other guys stepped up. Got some solid bench contribution which should help us out for tomorrow's third game in three days.

Did anyone see why Tyler Thomas didn't play most of the second half? Was this just getting him rest?

Thomas got hurt at 12:22 of the second half. I saw him on the floor as UNCG was breaking towards their basket and eventually time was called. I believe he walked off the court without help but never returned. This could loom large we'll see if HU gives us any info. on his injury.

We win 65-53 and defense was the name of the game here. IDK anything about UNCG but they definitely didn't shoot the ball well. Dubar coming back with a decent game after being non existent in the last two games and scoring 17 points I believe. I'm not looking at any stats just relying on my memory. Thomas having a strong game in the first half then went cold don't know how many points he finished with. Awful ball handling by both Estrada and Carlos. Quite a few loose ball turnovers that led to easy layups for UNCG. Stolen balls off their dribble just can't remember the last time we just coughed up the ball so many times. I thought we played well in the post and Williams definitely a big body down low making his presence felt.

We won 65-53. Estrada had 7 points, 10 rebounds to lead all players, 5 of our 10 assists, and 6 turnovers. Carlos had 4 turnovers, and Marshall had 5 turnovers. I wonder when the previous time we won a game while having three players with at least 4 turnovers. We won because UNC Greensboro shot threes 4-24. They made half of their twos. Dubar scored 17, Thomas scored 14, and UNC Greensboro did not have anybody score more than 11. Dubar shot 7-10 including threes 2-4, and had 5 rebounds. We used nine players. It looks like Boachie-Yiadom will start over Williams, and Boachie-Yiadom shot 2-2 to Williams' 1-4. Boachie-Yiadom had 6 rebounds.

http://defiantlydutch.blogspot.com/2022 ... sboro.html is Jerry Beach's "I'll Be Quirky: UNC Greensboro," which I will read after the game.

The struggling CAA is 4-2 (3-2 vs. Division I), and UNCW is a 2.5 point underdog against Vermont in the Bahamas. After getting their first loss yesterday, Towson held on to beat South Alabama 62-60. After beating Manhattan by 2 in overtime yesterday, Northeastern lost by 2 against Princeton, who was favored by 8.5, and it was in London. Hampton was down 29 at halftime at Wake Forest and allowed a triple-double in a 97-70 loss in which Hampton scored 2 more in the second half. Delaware beat Hartford 78-50 in Philadelphia. North Carolina A&T beat non-Division I Greensboro 78-51.

Now this was more like it. Played with energy and tough defense without a good game from Estrada.
Let's finish this thing off with a win vs Quinnipiac.

Nice bounce back win vs UNCG -

I said it last week coming out of this weekend in Canada with 2 wins would be a pretty good -

Close it out vs Quinnipiac would be nice -

Checking in late on this board with this Canada trip, as I've been in AZ, CA, and now on the way back to AZ during the Quinnipiac game, which I see HU is leading by eight at the half.

Found it interesting to see three pages of mostly moaning and groaning about the Middle Tennessee loss but only one page on the win over UNCG. Seems we are very often more vocal in complaining than in praising. Many new key pieces. It's November. Not even close to CAA play yet. Breathe. Let's see how this all gels and grows (or not). Long way to go. But for this trip, a must win today to at least come home with 2 of 3. Shame about the bad start vs. MT, but that won't matter much in Jan and Feb, when the tests that matter most will occur.
