Re: Softball 2015
We win the second game 4-0. Pirone with a 6 hit shutout. We are now 19-9-1 on the season and some momentum going into the Drexel series. Lehigh a good program and had a 24-3 record going into this DH.

Re: Softball 2015
On the recruiting front we already have two verbals from two stud pitchers. The first is local product Sarah Cornell from Clarke High school. In 392 career innings she has 732 strikeouts and a 1.04 ERA. Next is Alyssa Irons from Ohio. She plays for the top team in Ohio the Ohio Outlaws. She is 6ft1 and is also a power pitcher. They say she throws about 68MPH. just like Cornell.

Ohio? Are we trying to expand our recruiting area, or did she play for a local team at some point?

We have had Ohio players on the team before. Two were sisters who played shortstop for us.

Re: Softball 2015
Pam Dresinski (former CF/SS for Hofstra, one of the sisters Stu referred to) owns a hitting academy out in Ohio. No clue if this girl has any connection, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Re: Softball 2015
Trish lives in Buffalo now, which is why I didn't connect her with the player coming from there. But yes.
Re: Softball 2015
Galati's father is Cornell's club coach and Dreslinski's father coaches Irons, the only problem is they are both only juniors in high school and are two years away . Next year is going to be a tough year.

I expect to see a transfer fill in or even a Juco player come in. Spoke with Larrissa and she is high on Nikki Michelowski. Can see her for one year as a pitcher then play the field in her Junior and senior year.

Re: Softball 2015
We have a pitcher coming in next year as well, Madison Grimm.
Hopefully Jess Peslak will see some more innings this season to get accustomed to the college game since she'll have to step up next year. She seems to be decent once she gets settled.

Re: Softball 2015
We're currently down against Drexel 3-2 in the 4th inning of the 1st game. We're being outhit 3-6 against the worst team in the conference with Morgan Lashley pitching. Hofstra hasn't allowed Drexel to score a run since 2012, until now. I know they have a new coach and are improved from last year, but it's still pathetic on our part that we have no offense or defense at this point in the game, as our only 2 runs are both unearned.
As a side note, Drexel's coverage of this game is flat out embarrassing. They only have live stats (no audio or video), and they're not even the full live stats that Hofstra and pretty much every other school offers. No pitch by pitch or season stats included, which I personally like to see the batter's and pitchers averages on the live stats, and it's helpful to know the ball/strike count for each at bat.
Update: Game 1 is going into extras tied 3-3, which absolutely should not be the case against Drexel. Pirone came in to relieve Lashley in the 5th after she once again allows a hit to the leadoff batter.
We score 1 run in the top of the 11th, and hold on for the 4-3 win. Taylor Pirone pitched a full 7 innings in relief, and is slated to start the second game of the double header.
We're up 4-1 in the second game per the HU softball twitter, although live stats flat out stopped working with us up 4-0. The coverage is bad enough at this point that I got frustrated and actually email Drexel athletics about how pathetic their coverage of the game is. If there's no video or audio, I at least expect live stats to be working.

So we wind up winning 11-1 when we score 7 uns in the 6th. We hit four Hrs and one was a grand slam by lacey Clarke. As a team we have hit 5 grand slams this season.

Hofstra sweeps the series with a 10-1 win over Drexel in the 3rd game. We exploded for 20 hits, including 3 home runs by Caryn Bailey (her team-leading 9th), Kim Smith, and Megan Patierno. We've hit 8 home runs in the past 2 games. Drexel's only run came on a solo HR that was hit off of Morgan Lashley who ultimately gets the win, while Taylor Pirone picks up her 3rd save of the season.
The team got back to Hofstra today just in time to watch Bill Edwards get inducted into the Hofstra Hall of Fame. As he was called up to receive his award and to speak, the entire team went up, still in uniform and hugged him one by one.

Was at the dinner and the Bus arrived 5 minutes before he spoke. One of the better HOF dinners at Hofstra.

This week we jumped back to where we should be in the RPI at 26. We were 34 last week, so now we're in a much better position to get an at-large bid, if needed.

Good 5 inning 8-0 win over LIU Brooklyn today. Morgan Lashley pitched a 2-hit shutout. Tomorrow we face a good Stony Brook team that beat JMU in Harrisonburg.

Re: Softball 2015
We're down 0-3 to Stony Brook in the 4th inning. They scored 2 in the 3rd inning on a 2 run HR, and Stony Brook is one of the top home run hitting teams in the country. In the 4th inning, they scored one thanks to 2 consecutive errors by Kim Smith, to give us 3 errors on the day. We haven't had much of an answer to their pitcher yet.
Still down 0-3 after 6 innings. Both teams have 3 hits each, but we've committed another error to give us 4. Clearly we're having a very off day as our bats have been pretty hot as of late, and we're the top fielding team in the conference. It's an unfortunate game to be having an off day.
We allow another run off of 2 hits in the 7th, and our batters go down 1-2-3, so we fall 0-4 to an America East team whose RPI is 135 while ours is 26. This is our worst loss of the season, as our only other loss to a team not ranked our receiving votes at the time we played is to Central Arkansas, and their RPI is 103. If losing twice to a ranked JMU team dropped our RPI by about 10 slots, I can't even imagine what this loss will do. We only lost by 1 run to SBU last year, and to get shutout is completely unacceptable. We batted 0-9 with runners on base. Next game is against Elon, Saturday is the pink game for breast cancer awareness, and on Sunday, Bill Edwards will be honored.

Always disappointing to lose to Stonybrook, regardless of the sport.

SBU is not that bad a team. They beat a JMU team that has only lost 6 times this year . They beat jaylyn Ford 6-4. The same Pitcher who just threw a perfect game.

Re: Softball 2015
Stony Brook is a very good team, and definitely better than their RPI claims, but unfortunately this loss will still have a pretty big impact on us. I'm just frustrated with the way we played. 4 errors in one game is unheard of for Hofstra, and completely unacceptable. As Larissa said in the post game conference, the batters made no adjustments at all. Although Taylor Pirone gave up 4 runs (3 earned), the pitching wasn't that bad, just a few missed spots, one of which lead to the HR. If our batters tried to make adjustments and get some hits, we could've come back from the deficit.stuball888 wrote:SBU is not that bad a team. However, all teams have an off day once in a while, and we can only hope the team comes out on fire against Elon, since we'll need every win we can get to stay in contention for an at-large bid.
Btw, Ford's perfect game was against an 11-34 ECU team...
