National Top 10 Scorers and CAA Players of the Year

Post by EvanJ »

In our 19 seasons in the CAA before this one, the CAA has had one of the Top 10 scorers in Division I six times. When that player was on Hofstra, he won POY all three times, with Jenkins sixth in 2010-2011 and Wright-Foreman fifth in 2017-2018 and second in 2018-2019. When that player wasn't on Hofstra, he never won POY. In 2006-2007, Towson's Gary Neal was fifth with 25.3 points per game, and I thought he deserved POY, which Stokes won. In 2014-2015, Drexel's Damion Lee was fourth with 21.4 points per game, and W&M's Marcus Thornton won POY. In 2019-2020, Northeastern's Jordan Roland was tenth with 21.9 points per game, and W&M's Nathan Knight won POY. Before Gary Neal, the CAA went 17 consecutive seasons without a player in the Top 10. The last CAA player not on Hofstra to finish in the Top 10 in points per game and win POY was East Carolina's Blue Edwards in 1988-1989. Hofstra is the only current CAA team to have a player finish in the Top 10 points per game and win POY.

Edit: Jenkins and Wright-Foreman spent their whole career at Hofstra, but none of the other three did. Neal transferred from La Salle to Towson, Lee transferred from Drexel to Louisville, and Roland transferred from George Washington to Northeastern.
